It might just be my fox but mines really friendly and only bites her toys and if it starts pacing around like it's bored I let it outside for a little bit then I holler for her and she starts running back in! It's a red fox by the way
I admire foxes very much but I wouldn't want to own one because I love to see them where they actually belong in there natural environment where they can be Wild and free, but if the fox is raised in captivity then I would adopt one just so they won't end up in the wrong hands and make sure I do lots of research of course. She really has patience to deal with foxes and that's the most important part.
I felt that way. Then I spent a year and a half doing research. I talked to a lot of owners as well. They dig through everything they can't chew apart, they pee on everything you love (even if you litter train them) when you say no to them, they make a LOT of noise and bother neighbours. Maybe another 50-100 years of domestication and specific breeding? Maybe they'll be actual pets. But now? You're just asking to destroy your house and yard.
I adopted a wolf from an animal shelter 26 years ago. I went there looking for a dog and came upon him. He was about six months old. I told the deputy you have a wolf there and she said no, he's a husky German Shepherd mix. Well she took me aside privately and admitted he was a full wolf and he was slated for euthanasia the next day.. I adopted him the next day one hour before they were going to kill him. He was a surrender. Wolves are not much different than foxes as they are very intelligent. I don't advise anyone getting either,or any wild animal. He took a lot of dedication and I ended up divorcing my husband. Now I have seven dogs, six of whom are Aussies. There are no vacations. The house is never really clean, fur is a part of life, they take up 50% of the time everyday and feeding, supplements, heartworm medicine, grooming, toys, etc are a huge expense. Chance, my wolf, was a wonderful companion and I never thought of him as a dog or a pet. My Aussies are worth everything they get. If you're not willing to dedicate your time and appropriate amount of money to an animal or really cannot afford to then don't get one.
Angie, and her experience, is absolutely fascinating. Zelda is a lucky fox that she ended up in her care. Too many people want to take beautiful creatures, that should be free, and cage them up to be "pets". Thanks to Angie, maybe more people will do their due diligence and put time into researching these creatures. Enjoy watching them in the wild, or in proper outdoor facilities. But don't take their freedom and joy and coop them up in homes that are not made for them. All that happens is that they are shuffled off once the human finds they have grown out of their adorable infant stages and are quite a bit of work. Thank you again to Angie for her reality check! This was a great episode!
There are dogs that most people shouldn't own too - like the Border Collie. So many of them get abandoned because people think they're cute and buy one not understanding how much trouble they can be if they don't work. Everyone - stop saying you're going to get one! Listen to what Zelda is saying. If you do, you're the type of person who might think that a Piranha would make a good pet and then take a bath with it.
Bob Levittan I agree with everything you said I think who want those kinds of pets should just have lots of pictures! I would love to own an owl but reality is that I live in the city.
I had a half Border Collie/German Shepherd....her intelligence was off the charts! Luckily, she did get a 2 mile walk every day and that was enough to tire her out physically, but she also needed a LOT of mental stimulation and attention because she was like a genius child....unless you keep them mentally challenged, they will get depressed.
I think she was saying the average person should not own a pet fox without doing tons of homework. It's not like owning a cat or a dog...alot more work and likely alot more money. I was also under the impression that she was possibly a fox rescue. She did talk about people calling her about taking their foxes so it is very possible all the foxes were foxes previous owners gave up.
She doesn’t buy foxes as pets. She rescued one and now takes in foxes that people realize they can’t handle. She announced her place as Fox Angels in the beginning. You can google it. It’s an animal sanctuary with volunteer staff.
Yeah I've looked into owning rabbits and a lot of the mayhem that they get in could possibly be lessened if they just bunny-proofed or fox-proofed the house. I actually really want a pet fox as I have had both cats and dogs. Foxes are amazing creatures and thay lady had stuff lying around that the fox could easily tear up. They could get seriously hurt.
LOL...I have a cat...so true. But cats are really at their best and a great blessing when they are older. I have a nine year old mutt cat name Sumo. We all love him and he is so smart. I have had dogs and cats and love them both. But now that I am older, 57, one at a time is all I can handle. Its like taking care of a small child. LOL. blessings!!!!!!
So glad you tackled this topic. I live next to a Woods and see many foxes. My collie with huge pointed ears made friends with a wild fox male who would follow her round the Wood. One day the Fox followed us home, next thing it had been killed by a car. So very upsetting. Thanks Anneka for getting the reality out there :)
Foxes are still very much in the intermediate stage of domestication. They are not pets nor do they share the mentality of fully domesticated pets. It will be some time before we witness the first fully domesticated fox fit to be a pet.
Selfish part of me really wants to see that happen in the next 20-30 years, but only if its a net benefit to the lives of those foxes. Then again, who are we to meddle? I love playing with my dog in the way dogs play, biting wresting etc, and I wonder if I could handle a fox with the time and money
I had one when a Child. But She lived in forest and did leave us when about 3 years old. But before that She learned even to sit when commanded. Such a lovely fox!
I hear this exact same thing with EVERY pet owner. "Oh! Its soooooo hard! You've got to give up everything!" I've dealt with a ton of different animals and for the most part, they are chill as hell. A few toys, good food, and a nice environment is all you need to satisfy them. Your undivided attention at times, but they will be fine.
Fox's can be great pets, In the right environment and under good conditions. Don't just buy one thinking it'll be cool. And I cannot stress enough on the breeder you get them from, do research and even then its best to get one from a rescue center. It's better to give one that can't survive in the wild on it own a home than one that capable or get one from a breeder who has been breeding them for years and have gone through generations of domestication. Always remember that no matter one these guys are Wild animals and have instincts you can't prevent.
Bri Ludwig She has a touching problem, I wouldn't mind but it's not appropriate with another woman that you don't know, fox lady didn't seem to like that very much, it's like playing a dominance game, almost like someone saying "well are you cute".. when you're really pissed off!
@@JohnWayne-86ed lol she just looked confused XD as i would be "my hair? whats my hair got to do with anyting" disclaimer: im not really a ceen on this human interaction thing, so my words properly dont mean much. but i would say we chose ourself how we handle other people's weirdness, because if there is one thing there stands true, its that people do weird inappropriate things all the time, and its rarely worth getting upset over.
Nekogami-Crystal Of coarse we all act inappropriate from time to time, but it's when it's communicated that's its inappropriate and a person brushes it off and continues with it, thats when I get pissed off, I was at a college carnival last year and some guy walks up and grabs my hair (I have freakishly long hair for a guy), and I told this guy, "don't put your hands on people you don't know!".... he was smiling at me like he didn't take me seriously, which got me really mad!... I turn my head to ignore him, he does it again!😠... like saying "aren't you cute😏" I'm 6'7 225 lbs, I couldn't believe the balls on this guy!.. anyway, I lost it and beat this guy until I got pulled off.... by the police😑... who arrested me, I went to jail☹... So, you're right, it's not worth getting upset over things like this, at least not to the point where you lose control!
That's a domesticated fox- I'm fairly sure that one's the result of the Russian breeding experiment that took about 50 years. Some of them have floppy ears and curly tails and the colours are different from the wild type, they vary from white to dark gray.
If the animal is domesticated, how do you explain what its owner said? It chews on everything, it scent marks everywhere. Domesticated animals don't do that.
These Russian foxes are only partly domesticated and really shouldn't be kept as pets. They might need a few more decades before they can be considered fully domesticated.
A pet fox is not a pet, they are a wild animal that could no longer survive in the wild. And thank you for giving a realistic view of what it is like living with a fox :)
God: Ima make a new animal Angel: What will it be called? God: Swiper? Angel: how bout box? God: What if you replace it with a f... Also god: Fox *A minute later...* God: This fox doesn’t do that much it need personality Angel: What if you get caffeine + dog + cat+ dolphin? God: _great idea!_
I appreciate one has to keep the crazy lady on point but it would have been nice to hear her without constant interruption! Especially as she was asked questions that she wasn't afforded the opportunity to answer.
foxes are defenitely more of a lifestyle rather than a pet! Not everyone has what it takes to care for them! so most people better just stick to a doggos and apreciate foxes from afar
Plus there are documentarys how the russians domestics wild foxes for 50 years now....terrible just terrible how all the foxes living their lifes in little cages and want to be fox experts look at them. Awful...
I absolutely adore foxes, and I wish to have one as a pet one day. But I’ve realized that I probably wouldn’t be able to take care of them properly, which sucks, but it’s better if I don’t get one at all instead of taking care of one incorrectly. I at least hope to meet one one day ☺️
Many years ago, I reared a tiny orphaned fox cub and eventually got it back into the wild by leaving its enclosure open at night. I continued to feed it and leave water out for it. Eventually it stopped returning for food but I saw it in the garden quite often. I hope it survived. It was fun to watch it playing with my German Shepherd. It would lay on my forearm, and if I stopped stroking it or scratching its head, it would bite my fingers. I can probaly say I hold the world record for the number of fox bites.
Probably not, because that was just one fox. A person who works at a fox sanctuary, breeds domestic foxes or works at a fox fur farm probably has that record.
My car has very high energy and although she’s quite hard to handle I could never take care of a fox. Like the fox literally never stopped. RIP fox lady
I used to live in San Francisco and on my days off or after work would walk through Golden Gate park and there was this little red fox that lived near a large fallen pine tree. Every time I saw it, I would talk to it and it would totally sit and look at me very curious about me. I think it became familiar with me and my dog. It even ran out in front of our path once really fast like it was playing. My only other fox experience was with one at a wildlife rescue/museum in Sacramento. Her name was Autumn and she was really sweet, but I did notice they are antsy and do not like to sit still for long.

Adorable, at the end of the day, all creatures just want love and attention Need to give them loads of puzzles and positive reinforcement training, outside enclosure is perfect
I saw a video on that, looks amazing. Who knows, we might have actually domesticated foxes (rather than just semi-domesticated tame ones) in the future! I would love a pet fox if they were actually pets. What this lady has though, is wayyy to much for me lol.
When you think a fox pen is secure, think again, or when you think a bird pen is secure from a fox also think again and few more again, you see sly as a fox, a very deserving phrase
Not sure I could cope with the peeing on the furniture to mark her territory, the biting and scratching, the aggression and the boundless energy - from Anneke. The fox would be ok.

Yes! I heard that and I heard it was from OD-ing on Cute.
I love cats and dogs and foxes, but living even a week with a fox would really shorten my life span.

She really has patience to deal with foxes and that's the most important part.
i love em ima get my license and ima buy one and its my BEST FRIEND FOREVER
-some are bred for pets
I felt that way. Then I spent a year and a half doing research. I talked to a lot of owners as well. They dig through everything they can't chew apart, they pee on everything you love (even if you litter train them) when you say no to them, they make a LOT of noise and bother neighbours.
Maybe another 50-100 years of domestication and specific breeding? Maybe they'll be actual pets. But now? You're just asking to destroy your house and yard.
Thanks bud!
learn how to write, first you say you dont want a fox, but then if its raised in captivity thats ok, because you do your reserch, WTF
These foxes have a lot of the wild, bred out of them. They've been bred to be a lot less fearful, which might get them killed in the wild.
I love videos like these that just simply tell the truth and hopefully warn off the cute chasers.

If you're not willing to dedicate your time and appropriate amount of money to an animal or really cannot afford to then don't get one.
you have 7 dogs? that' s crazy. no wonder you husband left))) i like animals and all, but that's too much
i would have left you as well 2 dogs 3 at max is what i could have handled.
Was there really any need to be rude to this woman? If she wants dogs or a wolf that’s her choice.

People who love animals are among the most trust worthy and sweetest souls on this planet.

If you do, you're the type of person who might think that a Piranha would make a good pet and then take a bath with it.
same thing w pitbulls
We had a border collie that didn’t work, she was no problem. She was an amazing dog.
Bob Levittan I agree with everything you said I think who want those kinds of pets should just have lots of pictures! I would love to own an owl but reality is that I live in the city.
Nothing wrong with pitties! They're great dogs with responsible, sensible humans.
Woman: I DoN't ReCoMmenD oWnING a PeT FoX
**owns a fox**
I think she was saying the average person should not own a pet fox without doing tons of homework. It's not like owning a cat or a dog...alot more work and likely alot more money. I was also under the impression that she was possibly a fox rescue. She did talk about people calling her about taking their foxes so it is very possible all the foxes were foxes previous owners gave up.
She doesn’t buy foxes as pets. She rescued one and now takes in foxes that people realize they can’t handle. She announced her place as Fox Angels in the beginning. You can google it. It’s an animal sanctuary with volunteer staff.
If you understood her advice you wouldn't need to repeat what she says and make it into something hypocritical.

Her:she's chewing wires and everything!
Me: but why are you leaving random wire all over the house?

Im just wondering if a chaos will start here too-
Yeah I've looked into owning rabbits and a lot of the mayhem that they get in could possibly be lessened if they just bunny-proofed or fox-proofed the house. I actually really want a pet fox as I have had both cats and dogs. Foxes are amazing creatures and thay lady had stuff lying around that the fox could easily tear up. They could get seriously hurt.
It’s my absolute goal to buy a domesticated fox when I’m older. This video is exactly what I’ve needed.
I think the interviewer should let the expert talk more instead of talking too much herself.
The "fox angel" thinks so, too :D
It was quite annoying. The interviewer overtalked Angie (The Fox Expert) the entire time. Might have well just filmed and did a voiceover.

I don’t deny the fact they’re beautiful animals. They are still threats to livestock which is why they’re hunted.

I hear this exact same thing with EVERY pet owner. "Oh! Its soooooo hard! You've got to give up everything!"
I've dealt with a ton of different animals and for the most part, they are chill as hell. A few toys, good food, and a nice environment is all you need to satisfy them. Your undivided attention at times, but they will be fine.
She just wants to have her little exclusive club so she can feel special about having foxes
Always remember that no matter one these guys are Wild animals and have instincts you can't prevent.

but i would say we chose ourself how we handle other people's weirdness, because if there is one thing there stands true, its that people do weird inappropriate things all the time, and its rarely worth getting upset over.
That's a domesticated fox- I'm fairly sure that one's the result of the Russian breeding experiment that took about 50 years. Some of them have floppy ears and curly tails and the colours are different from the wild type, they vary from white to dark gray.
That is what I was thinking too. Maybe she is a descendant of those foxes.
Did you watch the vid? Lady said it's descendant from Fox farm foxes.
If the animal is domesticated, how do you explain what its owner said? It chews on everything, it scent marks everywhere. Domesticated animals don't do that.
These Russian foxes are only partly domesticated and really shouldn't be kept as pets. They might need a few more decades before they can be considered fully domesticated.
thought of the same because of fox's coat! :)
A pet fox is not a pet, they are a wild animal that could no longer survive in the wild. And thank you for giving a realistic view of what it is like living with a fox :)

Nice story to read. Thanks! :)
Her hair and fox didn't make any sense 🙄

That begins to happen with domestication. Some even get floppy ears
Now foxes are being domesticated by doing breeding, and in that way their body will change similar to dogs and being less aggressive.
