    "Mat, Perrin and Rand go off on their own to explore.. like idiots"
    "Moraine scorns them for leaving in the first place and petty much calls them idiots... which they are.""
    "Mat actually did take a piece of treasure from the cursed city.. cause he is an idiot."
    Love those lines... could do with one more.

      Evendur13 what if Rand fell becasue after Logain sees him and the glow Ta Vern that checks off one thing for the pattern and then creates a gusting wind and falls.

    • @Gunleaver
      @Gunleaver 4 года назад +6

      - No, they took off on their own to explore, because Moiraine led them to believe they were in a safe place.
      - Moiraine scolded them, she did not scorn them, and she calls them idiots to cover her own leadership failures, because her habitual secrecy comes back to bite her in the ass. They are ta'veren, their purpose is to do what the Pattern wants them to do, but Moiraine thinks they should run each and every choice by her. Except they are always better off ignoring her and doing their own things. It ALWAYS works better when they ignore or defy Moiraine.
      - Mat took a piece of treasure because he had no reason to believe in curses, because there is nothing like Mordeth anywhere else in the world, so he has no reason to think of it. As he points out, Moiraine asks a set of questions that don't cover what he did. It's perfectly reasonable to infer from the questions she asked that the threat was Mordeth and not the treasure. And again, at the time he picked up the dagger, he believed the city was safe, and a place of good, since Trollocs were afraid of it.
      - Rand fell over because someone surprised him. You try keeping your balance when someone you didn't even know was there suddenly speaks to you.

    Just Reread EotW and (at 8:20) The Aes Sedi (Elaida) doesn't actually tell the queen what she foretold, she actually whispers it so only Rand could hear the part where she said that important part. Then she does some bullshit Aes Sedai thing and says "she has said" everything there was, because she technically did, she just whispered part.

      (Edit: I realize in text form how something is said is determined by the reader, not the author... So, when you read this, imagine two friends sitting down after a long day having some drinks. The one who gave a speech asks about the speech, and the other one just says the following, without malice, or hatred, just says it, then they go on drinking. {I know he didn't actually ask, this is for context of how it was written, not an actual scenario} End edit) I hate that you used the word decimate....
      It used to mean to kill 1/10 when taken literally, but it was almost always used when an army was already defeated, then lined up, and while defeated had to watch as their captors killed every tenth person. It is psychologically terrifying. But now people who don't know that exchange it for devastate, or destroy, or annihilate.... And rob the word of its true horrible meaning, watering it down from a truly descriptive and mortifying thing, to just a synonym for devastate.
      (Edit: I haven't heard anyone use decimate to mean devastate until Disney did it in their opening crawl. {I think it was last jedi}. And if I would be trying to be pompous, I would end up crying a few devaliters into a bowl because I'm not that good at it, after trying to figure it out for a devade. The sound of my tears might reach 5 devabels and be audible for at least 50 devameters. I evolved decs into devs... I feel that's more snarky and winky than pompous, but then again I can hear the laughter in my voice. I never meant to offend Daniel. If I did, I am sorry, good sir. That being said, y'all are right, I should have said... Fun fact! Decimate means.... Blah....End of edit)

    • @jujubean9063
      @jujubean9063 3 года назад +5

      You could have just explained the true meaning instead of acting like Daniels use of decimate is insulting and ignorant. Also, the meanings of words change over time. Happy use to be a term to describe a sort of fulfillment of function and now it is something totally different. If you didn’t know this, then reading Aristotle would lead to misunderstanding. I’d prefer the meanings of words to stay constant, but they don’t. If people’s understanding of the definitions of words bothers you, then you’re going to spend your entire life in misery. Cool Info dump in your comment though, just don’t be so douchey about it.

    Love your reviews although there's a bit of flawed details:
    1. @ 5:21 Rand and Mat gave the captain their silver coins which Moraine had given them in order to know where they were at for payment, rather than Thom with his gleeman skills.
    2. 9:00 - 10:00 OK so Perrin & Egwene met the Elyas and the wolves. THEN the lot of them together met the "Tinkers". THEN they traveled through the stedding which was where Elyas got split up from Egwene and Perrin. That was when they BOTH got taken hostage by white cloaks not just Egwene. Perrin was SEVERELY beaten with scars he has for the rest of his life. And you went on to say they eventually met up with Lan, Moraine, & Nynaeve. But it was them who saved Perrin and Egwene. Pretty big part of the book. Moraine used the One Power, Lan extracted them, and Nynaeve created the distraction using the horses. That was when it became obvious that Lan and Nynaeve had a "thing".
    3. You COMPLETELY left out Rand and Shai'tan's battle which Rand Believes KILLED THE DARK ONE. The Climax to the entire book. 😂💁‍♂️
    4. Also forgot about the dreams that the dark one used to mark the 3 Ta'veren.
    Rand doesn't learn who beggar was until Fal Dat when he was brought into Algemar's keep.

    *Spoiler*
    Actually Perrin and Egwene stopped with Elyas and the Wolves in the stedding for water. Then the Whitecloaks showed up and catch them hiding nearby, where Hopper is killed. Perrin kills two whitecloaks in retaliation and both he and Egwene are held prisoner until Lan, Morraine, and Nynaeve helped them escape all the way to Camelyn meeting back up with Rand, Mat, and now Loial.
    Also! "The Ways" are a very interesting part of the book I found. Loial leads the party through what is described as a pitch black cavern of darkness , winding paths of bridges and islands that connect in ways that wouldn't make sense if you could see it clearly. Even the brightest lantern has it's light dampened in the ways. They travel for days, stumbling in the dark silence guided by Loial(who is an ogier) and followed by someone or something. When they near their destination Rand hears a howling wind off in the distance which Loial identifies as "Machin Shin", The Black Wind, which is an entity created a time long ago who steals souls. They quicken their pace to the exit but the key to the door is missing. Moraine uses magic to melt the door and pry it open where everyone is able to escape. The wind is unable to pass through the portal

    Filling in for the last minute there of the eye of the world: (PLEASE write your thoughts about what you think happened here)
    - Post Greenman sacrifices himself to kill one of the Forsaken.
    All the boys & Egwene take off in different directions in blind fear of this last forsaken who is seemingly undefeatable. (Moraine and Lan attempted and were brushed off).
    Rand seems to be the only one who is pursued by this Forsaken. His dash takes him to a cliffside and is now forced to face the Forsaken. Armed with his Herron sword Rand begs and somehow connects to the eye-of-the-world, channeling the one power.
    What happens next could be described as a long dream.
    Rand is channeling the One power and travels to the battlefield and does some lashing out on the Trolloc army (Key point: the army can see him or sees a figure at least but can't identify the person). After he is done there he is taken away to Ba'alzamon to which we hear the same speech you've heard before from all the dark friends etc, "serve the dark lord and you will be rewarded, serve alive or dead". At that moment Rand sees his mom gets tortured and unleashes his one power on Ba'lzy poo and ends up winning (god knows how) and freeing his mother.
    Rand is back in the present, the forsaken is dead, and he is completely drained of all energy. HE tumbles back into the clearing to discuss with Moraine. Moraine says, "you could go crazy but it might not be best to keep one more secret between everyone since that's exactly what the readers want" *jokes*.
    The Eye-of-the-world is drained "mysteriously", the area that was holding the dark ones cage, and Rand still holds fast to, "he defeated the undefeatable because he had some weird experience he has never had before". Lan brings out items: THe horn of Illian: calls back heroes of the dead to fight the last battle, an unbreakable - broken circle plate (that is claimed to be so strong that even when the one power is used on the plate, it simply absorbs it), and some banner (made Ikea size).
    They Leave and Rand is convinced to go off on his own because the book requires him to be a dumbass of large proportions.
    End Book 1.
    Please fill in parts I missed or misinterpreted. The ending really was all over the place and I may have missed subtleties and or important connections to how Rand was going crazy with the one power.

    You know you get extra cool points for having Hogarth's great defender in the screen shot. I am often struggling with where characters are on the map during certain scenes. It would be cool to see a narration with locations showing where scenes are happening. That would even be cooler than showing pictures of the characters.

    I will be honest. You made this story sound very simple which was helpful for me since the book can sometimes be hard to follow. Listening to you, I was surprised by how much I still remember, but the part where Rand destroyed the trolloc army, yeah I think I missed that part. All in all this was an excellent summary.

    Thank you for the great summary, I have found it very useful to as a recap and make sure I did not forget anything critical in particular as this book is pretty long and condensed with plenty of groups. I definitely got the Tolkin vibe at certain parts as you have mentioned.
    I hope you continued to do these summaries including for the prequel New Spring.

    Its been YEARS since I read through this series .Cant even tell you how long its been .. I was so frustrated with R Jordan for making me wait for the next book in the series I clearly remeber waiting for Crown of Sords (7) and then Path of Dagger (8) like FOREVER.... I understand they are making a series for it .. So I thought I woud find a summerzation to familiarize myself with a story from years past that I LOVED. but didnt want to have to Reread all over again ... Came across your Playlist and was pleasantly surprised of to find your summaries.. Well Done and THANK YOU

    Very well narrated. It was a nice refresher as I'm about 40 pages into book 7 right now. The one thing that can be frustrating about this series is that nothing ever resolves. If I understood some future spoilers correct, even killed Forsaken don't stay dead. Second biggest headache is that no one ever develops trust which would go a longs way to making the books more enjoyable. Even Mat distances himself from his close friend Rand as soon as it's known he's able to channel.

    You got more than a few details wrong. For instance, Ingtar offers soldiers to escort them to the blight and Morraine refuses. They compromise by allowing the soldiers to escort them to the edge of the blight. The soldiers get butthurt because they miss the main battle.

    • @charinasimeon9856

      Also Morraine and her party rescued them from the whites. They traveled with the thinkers before all that.

    • @FakeAstronomer
      @FakeAstronomer 2 года назад

      He definitely has that backwards. It was Ingtar? who was begging Morraine to allow soldiers to go with her instead of the "three village boys" so the soldiers can protect her. Morraine refused because too many people would draw attention.

    Thank you so much for doing these. I read books one through ten before book 11 came out a decade ago and stopped reading when I learned the author got I'll. When Sarandson completed the series I decide to buy the remaining books but quickly realized I was completely lost after a single chapter. I've tried reading various summaries, especially the WoT wiki but that was just too long to read (ironic, I know!) so I stopped.
    I'm hoping you publish 8 through 10 soon!
