Went to Sri Lanka in January for a month and loved it! People were lovely, food was amazing. We spent two weeks in Hiriketiya and totally recommend popping there for a visit and a surf for beginners. Reef safe suncream, surf hat, board shorts and rash vest to protect from the sun 1000%
Hey mate….what a great channel you are creating here….just so practical ( love the text bullet points GREAT addition ) My question is did I see you snap your board in SL….was it the HI4…. Thank you if able to answer.
Glad you’re enjoying it Elliot! Indeed a snapped a HI4 out there, wrong place, wrong time on a big swell! Don’t let it put you off the HI4 though, I’ve had another one for over a year and surf it most days and it’s still going strong!
Great video! I am going to Srilanka for the month of September, should I rather go to the south or east coast, given that is when the seasons change (October)?
Happy days! I’d check the surf report just before you head that way, as you’re on the shoulder season there’s the potential for waves in both locations so a last minute call would be the best option!
Hello, your classic. Thinking of Sri Lanka in April. Funny I was looking thru surf stoked adventures. Are you affiliated? I wanted to go to Maldives (on a mid size budget) then Sri Lanka . Watcha think. Thank you
Stoked to hear you're heading SL way soon - what's the plan? Indeed Stoked Surf Adventures is a booking service I setup, got so many questions about where to book and how to do things I thought I might as well do it myself!haha! Maldives and SL combo is a win for sure, plenty of options in both for all scales of budget
Hey great video thanks! I thinking to go surfing from mid november to mid december and I'm thinking about going to sri lanka. I'm an intermediate surfer. I was wondering how el nino this year is going to effect the waves over there? would you say its still worth it to go there in that time period or rather go somewhere else? Thanks a lot!!
Hey Julian, I’m actually out here now (right at the start of the season) and there have already been some really fun pulses of swell 😊 not sure how the rest of the season will pan out, but Nov and Dec are usually pretty fun.
@@BodyLifeMvmt I use a mix of booking.com, AirBnB and blog recommendations to be honest. If you're based in a spot for a while, book a couple nights then have a wander around as lots of awesome local places aren't online yet!
Hi Chris, Any recommendations for a 5 star hotel/ surf camp for a older surfer (60) and a non surfing wife for December? Looking for something nice where there's an option for the wife to hang out in a resort drinking cocktail's by the pool when I'm out on the waves. Cheers Stuart
Hey Stuart stoked to hear you're heading to Sri Lanka soon! Hotel wise there are a few options along the South West Coast - personally I'd look at Insight Hotel and then do the coaching with Ticket To Ride, great combo!
@@stuartmillar8264 no worries at all Stuart! I'm actually building a villa there at the moment which will be up and running from late Nov - 2 bedroom with a pool if you'd be keen on that option as well!
Water is usually pretty clear (last visit it was crystal clear!) beaches are generally pretty good, unfortunately though like everywhere there is plastic pollution, and depends on location, so make sure you collect a few pieces and bin them after your surf! 🤙
@@StokedForTravel thanks to you bro I have been sent an email to luckys’ and think I may have a spot. Thank you mate I would have not heard of the place if not for your video. Gonna leave the Cornish swell and hit up the tropics for two weeks at Christmas 🤙
Hey! I am going to be in Sri Lanka from April 26th to May 6th. It seems like I am falling right on the transition season between the two coasts... Any guidance as to which coast I'd be safer opting for?
Indeed you’re on the cusp, but I would say south coast will still be the better option that time of year. Will be worth keeping an eye on the Arugam Bay forecast though and maybe do a quick trip across if there’s some waves coming through! South Coast should still be heaps of fun tjough!
Not a lot of options around and prices are pretty high (due to import taxes) so I would take a board with you if you can. Ticket To Ride do have a few options in stock if you do find yourself needing one though 🤙
Hey man. I’m off to Sri Lanka in mid end November and was wondering if you knew anything about Sri Lankan airlines baggage allowance? They say it’s included in your free baggage but to “one set” which is a bit confusing. One bag with 2 board ok? Cheers boss
Not entirely sure what their current policy is but I did fly with them in March with a double board bag and that was fine, as long as it was within your luggage weight allowance 🤙
On my last trip it wasn’t super busy - to be honest everywhere’s busier than ever but I didn’t struggle to get waves or find it over crowded. Popular spots like Weligama are certainly busier than others though
It would be helpful to remind visitors to respect the local culture in the country they surf. It's unbelievable how the party people don't bother about others and disturb the local citizens and non surfers/non DM party animals freefom until early morning all through the night with their shit music. How can this be. Further more guys and girls walk around almost naked on the road, in the super markets, in the village. This gets worse every year. That sucks. And the image of foreigners is very bad. I don't see the reason why the surfer community is so ignorant and selfish for the world and values around them. It's a miracle to me and every year I'm looking forward that the season is over. Sorry to say.
Hi Liz, Indeed I should've added that into this video, but I'll make sure I highlight it in future videos and on the blog posts too. Being respectful of the local customs, culture and people is something that every traveller (surfer or non surfer) should keep in mind. Sorry to hear about your experiences with surfers - hopefully people will become more aware and I'll do my best to help promote those points from now on ☺️
