    As pointed out by a viewer, the setup at 5:19 looks like it has the UV shining through glass - this may prevent a lot of UVB from entering the tank, so please avoid doing this. Also if you like these kinds of videos, please like, share and comment, it helps with the algorithm and shows me that you guys want to see more of these videos 🤗🤗

    Thanks for this - it's really helpful of you to highlight where people aren't doing things quite right. There's no shame in getting things wrong if you learn from your mistakes! I've been supplementing D3 because I've never seen my leo out when the UVB is on, but like you say maybe that's because she's being supplemented. I'll give the Revitalise powder a go.

    Your channel and the help from other reptile keeps actually SAVED my geckos life. As I said before you helped me convince parents to get leopard gecko, but I didn’t do all the proper research. I got great ideas and stuff from your channel but I also ventured off other places including petco…. And I got a small 20gallon tank with 2 hides and ONLY mealworms as food. Also, I used eco earth which I never knew he would eat and cause problems.
    After coming back to your channel I did the proper care research and chatted with other reptile keepers. I upgraded my tank to a 40gal low and gave 3 hides as well as paper towel and a small glass with proper dirt in it for shedding. I also started feeding crickets after watching your food video which for some reason CHANGED EVERYTHING. He started coming out more, sleeping outside hides, and getting more comfortable around me. He had issue with shed before that and I watched your stuck shed removal video and now he’s doing MUCH better. Thank you so much I really appreciate the help you give new owners like me. Keep going on 👍

A soil/playsand mix is the cheapest option but you can also use premade mixes like terra Sahara or Arcadia earth mix arid. I’d also offer more variety in his diet if possible. You leave it on all the time, I’m not sure of the specifics but I turn my thermostat down at night, for the basking spot it’ll be 90-95 Fahrenheit during the day and I do around 86-90 at night, just to make sure he gets enough belly heat to digest his food. Good luck with getting your gecko! Don’t worry, it’ll be confusing any worrying at first but you’ll get the hang of it after the first month or two, just make sure to keep up with all the good habits you’ll be making! You got this!

    • @nightinggale6470

      Uneaten crickets should ideally be removed from the enclosure because they can bite at the gecko. Keep the crickets in their own container and gutload them with veggies. I’d also look into other feeders. Live roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better. Feed live insects, not frozen ones.

I also have a lamp on the hot side. I have a bowl to put her worms on to prevent impaction, and a water bowl. I use eco earth for her substrate and mist the terrarium every few days. I don't know how old she is (they never told me) but she's a juvenile about 6-6.5". I feed her mainly mealworms and crickets, and i give her waxworms as a treat. Her name is Cookie :D
    Edit: she looks on the younger side, idk, but she might end up being bigger than the average female if she's already 6-6.5"
    Update: i got her a 40 gallon tank!!

      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      It’s great that you got a 40 gallon, make sure you fill it up with plenty of clutter and plant coverage! Just some advice: eco earth isn’t the best substrate since it’s unnatural, dusty, and can be hard on their joints. A soil/playsand or soil/sand/clay mix would be best. A heat mat isn’t necessary with a properly setup heat lamp, but if you keep the heat mat, make sure it’s plugged into a thermostat to regulate the temperature. A temperature gun is best for measuring surface temps. A humid hide would be beneficial. It’d also be a good idea to add more variety to her diet if possible. Live roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better :)

Good options include a mix that’s 60% manure-free potting soil and 40% playsand (or a soil/sand/clay mix), Arcadia earth mix arid, or Terra Sahara from the bio dude. Try to get soil that doesn’t contain peat moss, since peat moss substrates are harmful to the environment. Timberline is a good brand.

    Hi! I use coco fibre for my Tank and Milo likes to kind of swoop it away in his cave, which leaves him with only glass, it’s either to get closer to the heating thing (I forgot what it’s called) or he doesn’t likes the Coco fibre? Is this normal?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад +1

      Coconut fibre isn’t a great substrate. It’s unnatural, tends to be dusty when dry, and is hard on their joints. A soil/playsand or soil/sand/clay mix would be ideal.
      And if you’re using under tank heating: A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce IRA and IRB like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.

I’d definitely get a PAR38 halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat for heating during the day (most natural and beneficial option) and a tube UVB bulb.

    • @SierraRomeoPapa
      @SierraRomeoPapa 2 года назад +2

      Herpstat 1. They’re a little spendy but worth every penny. They have day/night ramping on an internal clock, super long probe length, extremely accurate, has lots of extra options, and you can fit a humidity probe into it later if you decide to purchase those extra things. My recommendation for a US thermostat.

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад

      I recommend using a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat instead, they’re actually more natural and beneficial than DHPs! The levels of IRA and IRB they produce more closely mimic the sun (DHPs produce barely any IRA, the most beneficial wavelength) :)

    Hey! Getting a Leo soon and I'm so excited, though I was just wondering of it is better for the gecko, and will get it to move around the tank more, if I get a ceramic heat emitter instead of heat meat? With a ceramic heat emitter, should I also use a heat mat?
    Finally, what would the gecko generally prefer? Thank you so much :)

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад +1

      Ceramic heat emitters and heat mats are not adequate primary heat sources. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce IRA and IRB like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats and CHEs. Whereas heat mats and CHEs only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.

      You could try going to a zoo or reptile shop and asking them if you or your parents could handle some geckos. Other options include having an experienced keeper tell them how interactive a gecko can be

      Show your parents these videos and show them how much research you are doing in order to be ready to get a gecko. Also being more willing to help around the house/do chores to show them your prepared to go to extra lengths to get one.

    So I was at petsmart and I wanted to get my leopard gecko a light. (My room dark and I wanted to get him a light so I can have a day time night time with him) well the coworker gave me a bearded dragon basking light. She said this is what I use for my leopard gecko and left. I then go to the cash register and she looks over and see I switch the light out. She looks at her co worker and says that not what I would use but it not my pet in a cocky voice. I wanted to snap back saying a leopard gecko needs a heating Matt because there not even really out for the day not a bearded dragon basking bulb. Anyways I got really upset and uncomfortable from the situation. So I never went back to that petsmart.

    • @leopardgeckotalk

      Yes go to a reptile vet, they will send of a faecal sample. You usually have to pay extra to also test for Crypto as the standard test usually only detects other parasites. It's worth a shot as it's the only way you'll get answers as to what is up with your gecko.
