Backpacking The Goodwater Loop

- My very 1st backpacking trip :)
I backpack the entire 27 mile Goodwater Loop in Georgetown, Texas. I made reservations ahead of time and tent camped at Tejas Park and Jim Hogg Park. It took me 2.5 days, 2 nights to complete, with a ~28 lb pack. I brought way to much food, some clothing I didn't need, too big of a battery pack, and a few other non-essentials, so I think I can easily get my 15.5 lb base weight and total weight down some. It was a tough trek, but I had an amazing time, and can't wait for the next backpacking trip. Please feel free to ask any questions about my adventure, the trail, camp sites, water access, etc..

I went with my boy scout troop in 2008 also in the summer it was the last week of June. These years were drought. Highs near 100 heat index over 100. The water was really low the river is barely flowing it was mostly just mud but it was cold mud so we played in it. The worst part of that trip was hiking through that field of sunflowers that was over our heads and those leaves were cutting us up.
It was very close to 100, with absolutely no wind on the first day. The North side of the Lake was even sunnier the second day but actually more tolerable cause there was a light breeze.
The trail is nice and wide right now, but ya, in the Spring, large sections can be overgrown.

That was nice. I put the pad on the stepper and walked along. But, dude your nuts. This area has 8-9 months a year that has better hiking weather. July is not one.

There's a huge roost of purple martins right now in Round Rock at the Hobby Lobby. They gather there every year for a few weeks. Sort of like the downtown bats. I'm planning to do the Goodwater Loop this year, this video is super helpful! Did you park outside the gate at Cedar Breaks?
Inside the gate. I also put a note in my car window. No problems. Even saw a sign near Russel Park saying to do just that. Good luck with your trip! I'll be getting back out there when it cools down some if you want company for a Fall hike.
Can you camp overnight on the trail in a tent?
There's a few primitive campgrounds along the trail with first come first serve camping. Not really designated sites but you can see where most people end up camping in those areas. Check the video description for a link to the map showing where they're at. Walnut Springs is nice.
