I don't trust Amazon. At this point, Amazon is an entertainment company and as such the burden of proving themselves worthy of producing good stories falls entirely on them. I am not obligated in any shape or form to give them the benefit of the doubt until I see definitive proof that they've actually created a good Sargate show. And I don't care if Brad Wright is involved or is the executive producer. Tom Shippey was supposed to be the Tolkien scholar and Amazon fired him. I will not get my hopes up. I prefer to be possitively surprised than to be massively dissapointed.

Yes, if it happens. But no, because I think they will screw it up. They'll either make it woke, or only give us 6 or 8 or 10 episodes and call it a season, then make us wait a year or two for another handful of episodes. I don't have much in the way of trust for these mega corporations. They don't care much for us 'little people' who pay their bills.

The weird thing is, what people are screaming about with 'progressive politics infesting their shows', they may find is ALREADY in Stargate, so that might really screw with them enjoying the show from now on. Yes, there's a whole thing of militarism in other worlds that is cool, but with things like how one of the eldest Tok'ra, Selmak, didn't care for gender roles (his previous host before Jacob Carter, was a woman named Saroosh, who lived to the grand old age of 203), and was quite happy being hosted by anybody suitable (and thus could be seen as support of Trans ideals, which, while it isn't actually political, typically Anti-Trans aggressors would be quick to claim it is, and will deny that it was in 'THEIR Stargate' - even though Saroosh was in Season 2). There's a few Goa'uld who aren't terribly picky about the gender of their host either (and in fact take advantage of it for infiltration missions - something again seen in Season 2). Also addressed is Slavery, Racism, the benefits for and against advanced technology and AI (in the form of the Replicators, among other things), Religion (the System Lords are LITERALLY playing God)... I could go on. There is a load of stuff already in it that political agenda hunters will find repulsive. Better that the show runners don't worry about this kind of thing and just crack on.

I'd like to the see old school 20-24 episodes dropped weekly so we dont have to wait 10 or 11 months for the next season. with limited 10 or 13 episodes you only get story arc and you can't get the one off episodes / fun episodes like Window of opportunity.

10 to 13 isn’t that bad, it means they get to the point rather then throwing lame filler episodes. Yes, I am so tired ofnthese short show b formats, especially on Amazon. People credit them for saving thr expanse but they made fewer episodes than sci-fi and dragged it out novel years. My favorite shows of all time ate the 22 episode seasons that let us play around more with the characters and take an episode off to do something creative. All these short seasons do is narrow the scope of the show and tear character development down to the most minimal levels.

Streaming now launches, goes in small seasons, and cancel early because there's always some new 'shiny thing'. Something like 50% of their new properties are cancelled. You have to be good, get super high ratings, and maybe the fact they paid for the IP rights will give them a bit more gravitas as there is already in theory an audience, but the balkanizing of programing across different platforms that cost $$ means that some of that 'built in' audience might have other subscriptions or none, so maybe past audience might not be as much of an influence as I'd hope.

I want to be a rock star at age 71! What we want and what is realistic are two distinctly different things.
First, Amazon has to green light a production before extended seasons are even on the table.
Wanting seven seasons of a product of unknown quality is like ordering multiple servings of a dish at a restaurant without even knowing if you like the way it tastes!
First Amazon has to green light the creation of the restaurant. Then the main entree has to taste fantastic or you won't have the repeat customers and new foot traffic to make it a successful business venture.

@@kyfarm The tech involved in the production of state of the art production values is mind boggling expensive. You will get the number of episodes per season that the budget can support. Having worked in this industry, I tend to be more pragmatic.
Right now, all that exists is a preliminary script. We don't even know even the basic synopsis for what will be a pilot episode. In the negotiations involved getting a project green lit is a certain amount of PR and hype needed to generate interest in the target audience.
There are far to many unknown variables at this point for me to get that excited. Test audiences could put the nail in the coffin of a pilot - end of story. At the risk of being seen as going all Simon Cowell, I need to see the pilot (audition) before I invest any commitment in a series.

I'm hoping that Strange New Worlds is gonna show that you can get the 90-00s type of show in a modern context and there's a market for it. To me at least, it feels like the world went insane for a while there- we used to get 20+ episode seasons with lots of depth to each character and humour and sense of camaraderie and adventure. And then it's like someone decided "hey let's make everything really dark. like literally so dark you can't see what's happening. and really gritty, and everybody hates each other and there's one big arc or mystery and let's only do 10 episodes because the special effects budget is so high".. Or is that just me?

It's probably going to be based on some SG Academy with either it set in the immediate aftermath of it going public a few years ago or using a lot of flashbacks and archival references on say the tenth anniversary of the world finding out. Probably a bit of an anthology aspect too where "SG: Academy" eps organically show field training in other commands were we (and new viewers) could be introduced to established bit players from the past in higher ranks like Siler, etc as well as seeing cadets move out into deployment and possibly into subsequent spinoffs. A huge misstep in SGU imo was the lack of regular characters as opposed to some guests carried over from previous shows to tie the fans in. SGA was much less of a change from what came before yet had more faces from SG1 in it's pilot then SGU had in two years... If we'd seen Col Young and others worked into the scenery of previous series there would've been a lot more fan engagement.
Hopefully we'll get the outline or at least the broadest strokes of what happened to the people on Destiny and if the ratings are good maybe then a short miniseries actually showing what happened. De-aging/deepfake is getting better/cheaper by the day and it offers the chance to see a younger O'Neill, voiced and motion acted by RDA in the form of Jack's clone the Asgard Loki made who had all his memories and experience. He'd be just about the right age now to be leading an offworld team even without being second coming of their best ever. Just a thought.

I wish they would dedicate a mini-series or full on continuation of Stargate Universe (in addition to a brand new series). Season 2 turned the show around and it left on such a massive cliffhanger. They could totally get away with a season 3 continuation too with a story that somehow explains how everyone aged while in the pods and how Eli Wallace (David Blue's character) had weight loss. Say it was a stasis malfunction on the pods that were running and poor Eli had to survive alone for more than a decade, keeping what pods he could alive and active (this would also explain why some cast members couldn't return and could be explained away as died in the expanse between galaxies). it would be a dark season, but still offer some awesome stories. Perhaps Eli discovers more of the ship and this leads him to something extraordinary that also enables him to maintain enough power to keep things alive...

    • @johnassal5838
      @johnassal5838 2 года назад +3

Pod malfunctions could certainly explain lost cast and aging but would they have to age? Between practical makeup and constantly improving de-aging and deepfake tech that's not a total given. There is an allegedly canon run of comics that continued the story of SGU which did actually explain Eli's weight loss as he had time to get fit after finding an energy tweak to maintain enough life support for himself though not for anywhere near a decade but I'll let you read that story, it's online. Its not like they ever have to say what happened in any clear way in "SG Legacy" or whatever this new series would be called unless any of the SGU characters actually show up in it's first season or so. Maybe they all died on the other side of the universe, maybe they more or less all got back by five years ago our time. They don't have to make it clear and if Legacy ratings are good making a bunch of vague references might help get that miniseries.

SG1, Atlantis and Universe were very progressive for the time and I think still are. O'Neill grew from a rigid brooding character in the movie to one that was far more open as SG1 progressed. Teal'c grew as well. I think most of the other characters were progressive from the start. Now they did move about in a rigid uptight bureaucratic system but O'Neill just saw his fights with it as 'sticking it to the man'. Most of the regressive characters were considered bad guys unless they were on a growth trajectory.

Carter gave a long-lived, successful (in terms of progressing through the ranks to command a starship), capable, brilliant, educated, compassionate, yet strong character. A great role model too.
The whole cast showed a lot of respect for the military and the USAF. A lot of other shows that feature the military or various agencies want more interpersonal drama or salacious relationships which is something SG-21 didn't do; They kept it professional (as far as relationships go) and when Carter and O'Neill were going to settle together, they did it very circumspectly.

Most classic sci fi was back in the day. But there's a huge difference between the generally bright cheerful tones older shows used to promote egalitarian ideals, and the modern "woke" flavor of progressivism. The modern flavor is petty, spiteful, and bitter- look at stuff like Star Trek: Picard, where the entire first season of the show tears apart everything previously developed about the character to underscore how the new more-diverse characters are better than Picard in every way.
Carter was a wonderful character, strong willed and competent; but the show never had to assassinate other characters to make her shine. She was good enough to stand on her own. A big part of that was her being a well-rounded character with flaws of her own, and lessons she learned from her friends and teammates as they learned from her. Can't have that in modern woke writing, these days most "strong female characters" are flawless boring Mary Sues who never struggle, develop, or learn anything.

I swear to God if they make a new Stargate and the pilot has the slightest hint of that shit I am NOT watching any more.
I want my hopeful, optimistic sci-fi back. If they can't take their heads out of their asses and start making it again, I'll just keep rewatching the old stuff.

@@Valynbrown This is just incorrect. In the original SG-1 series, as soon as the pilot arc is done, by the 4th episode the very 1st planet they visit is one where Carter asserts feminist ideals to resist the misogynistic natives who have lived like that for centuries. This is totally egalitarian and progressive and would be considered "Woke" by today's Conservatives. Please stop trying to make out it was only good when your favourite was on.

@@demoniack81 Science fiction is a reflection of the period it was written in. Jules Verne writing in the 1870s reflects the technological advancement of the late Victorian/industrial era and his books are often about exploration, wonder of discovery, with some cautionary commentary about exploitation of people and resources. Wells writing 20 years later is also hopeful, but with much greater emphasis on themes relating to anti-War, genetic and scientific experimentation and eugenics, and socio-political commentary on class structure and exploitation. The future The Time Traveller travels to is definitely a dystopia. The Golden Age of the interwar Years is hyper hopeful, almost to a caricature, such as Buck Rogers and similar afre, but we still have things like 1984 from Orwell, then by the time we get to the Civil Rights era, we start getting stuff like Phillip K.Dick and Ursula LeGuin writing about andoid and trans rights, human limitations and exhausting resources, scarcity and social issues like iniequality. I could go on in much greater detail, but you should get the jist if you are a sci-fi enthusiast. WHat you call "new" is in fact "old" and has been around for over a century in the genre.

Initially everything seems normal, however what they don't know is that during their long sleep Destiny had encountered an enemy race from before the Big Bang, whose superior technology is unparalleled. This new enemy, with the help of Janus, is planning to conquer the whole universe. The only hope is to find an alien race that had stopped this new foe before by causing the Big Bang.

I'd hoped to see a Stargate finale (maybe 1 minute of screen time) where the new US President, George Hammond, holds a press conference and announces the existence of the Stargate & the previously secret co-operation of all major powers on Earth. Then introduces the world to his Joint Chiefs Chairman, Jack O'Neill. Fade to black as Jack begins the story of alliances formed & victories won after his first trip off-world. Shame they told us Gen Hammond died after the passing of Don S Davis. Great character & a great actor.

This was everything I had hoped for. It is a continuation, the fate of the Atlantis and Icarus Expeditions will be revealed. Better yet a possible continuation of SGA and SGU. This would suggest that an Icarus Planet was brought up an running and additional people were sent to Destiny. Members of the original cast unable to reprise their rolls could either die in stasis or were possible gated back to earth as Destiny discovered an Icarus planet in their path. It is quite possible that Amazon could green light multiple Stargate series, like Disney is producing multiple star Wars Shows.

Trek's doing that with Discovery, Prodigy, Lower Decks, Picard and shortly Brave New Worlds. It's kind of a shotgun approach, but if you have at least two in production at any given time, it encourages people to hang around as there is more to see, not just one 10 episode 'season'.

First things first, a new Stargate Series, great news! As for the cast, Carter, Jackson, McKay and Shepard... all of the above. Theme: the Goa'uld were the Egyptian gods, the Asgard the Nordic gods, the Ori were Bible thumpers of sorts, the Wraith were just blood suckers and the Replicators were Artificial Intelligence gone Berserker (yeah ala Fred Saberhagen).
What could possibly be the new Universal threat to Humanity? Not enough is known about the "Furlings", or the Ancients themselves. Invisible entities, or disembodied forces, nah! The Genai, no, please, no! It has to be an older civilization contemporaries with the ancients, or perhaps the ancients wanting to reclaim their Stargate Network.
Or maybe something chases the Destiny back towards the Milky Way which brings the Ancients out of retirement.
