The problem with these classes, the learners will only know how to talk in the Faa-matai or Faa-faleupolu language but they cannot talk properly in the Samoan everyday language. Like how we learn the Gagana Samoa in primary school. I heard a few NZ born who can talk with the gagana faa-matai from what they learnt in classes but (I shall call it the BASICS) they cannot talk i le gagana o aso uma. To me, it's awful because you don't talk with the gagana faa-matai at all the time, only when there's a faalavelave etc.

Yeah youre right, they don't even understand what Aganu'u Fa'a-Samoa means, that's the problem even the Tutors they don't even pronnounce words probably how's that work out ? trying to teach someone to learn something where you can't say it probably is a laugh. I don't call this as Basics I will call this ! " It's a Joke

As a Maori, I very well understand what you mean. There are many aspects to the teaching of 'te reo' and 'maoritanga' that I do not like and which are not being taught to our children - basic things: proper pronunciation of the language; good manners; being well dressed; Christian prayer and values; poorly-trained tutors who do not speak good Maori or English, hence the children will end up not speaking either language well. I am in the minority - the silent minority - but that's the way it goes!
