      Thanks! That might be my favorite clip of Sayla. She was so surprised to see me, it still makes me smile. I can't wait to go back, my wife and kids are going for a month in May but I have to stick around to hold down the fort. ☹️

    I went chasing after what I thought was a trumpet fish only to learn at the last moment it was a stingray's tail. I backed off right away. The water had become all silted out all of a sudden and I could just make out a slender fish. I was really close when I could make out the flapping wings (that's what stirred up all the silt).

      Gnarly dude. They are awesome! I've only seen those spotted eagle rays once in Bermuda, they were super majestic. Hopefully I see them again later this month when I'm back.

      Thanks man! And agreed. Not legally anyway haha. Seems like an exception should be given for invasive fish though. I guess the other issue is tourists getting hurt by not knowing how to handle them. Even residents have to go through a course to ensure their doing it safely. They deliver a very painful venomous stint that could end up fatal. For those allergic anyway.

    Great Episode! hate hearing my own voice though! good job for leaving the garbage, with the state of the oceans it needs all the help it can get. and as annoying as it is, its a prime mini ecosystem. Can't wait to see your next video!

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  3 года назад

      Haha no. Bermuda is pretty sheltered from sharks. They can't navigate through the heavy reef that surrounds the island. If one makes it through it's a big deal and rare sight. Doesn't mean it can't happen but it's not a big concern. I'm more worried about getting jabbed by a lionfish!

    Love the underwater sequences Chris, and Sayla's reaction to seeing you was absolutely priceless!! In a way it too bad you couldn't get a license to spearfish, the Lionfish and especially the Hogfish make for some amazing eats!! We had Hogfish in the Florida Keys many years ago and it and the Mahi were standouts for menu items! Kind of glad I'm back and house based for the Winter so I can binge watch all your episodes from where I left off!

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  2 года назад +1

      Haha thanks man! And I think saylas reaction was the trip highlight for me. I agree, at minimum it would be nice take out some Lionfish. I believe even the locals have to take a spearfishing course in order to do so though... They are very tight on the regs that's for sure. I'm heading out with some locals when I'm there at the end of the month so at least I'll be able to watch how it's done!

      Amazing man, to bad I didn't know sooner! I'll be back in the 18th of December and I'm down to get out everyday. That's a wicked little spot. I wanted to dive the deeper areas but didn't have a dive buddy so that's perfect. Cheers!

      Hey dude, in Bermuda until the 3rd of January. I'm pretty well free the entire two weeks so hit me up if you wanna go for a dive. I'll be hitting that beach again most days and also have a boat I can take out. Let me know!

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  2 года назад +1

      Hopefully around Christmas but I'm not sure. There seems to be a good community but it's hard to break into. I met a pretty solid group the last time I was there but it took some effort. There is a Facebook group called Bermuda freediving and Spearfishing that's pretty much inactive but worth trying to find some people!

    Oh man, your daughters reaction was so cute! Warmed my heart man. You are really making me miss the tropics. I learned to dive in Utila Honduras, then continued to Costa Rica, Indo, Australia, Thailand and a few others. Can't wait for my new wetsuit so I can dive around Victoria. Truth be told. Im a sucker for warm water though.

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  3 года назад +1

      Haha yeah man, warm water was nice. But I think the cold water has my heart to be truthful. Pros and cons, pros and cons. That's awesome that you got a cold water suit though, having the right gear makes all the difference. My first dive back in cold water after Bermuda was actually refreshing by the time we jumped in. 7mm suits keep you pretty toasty!

    Researching freediving: how does one set out from the shore when with slippers and such? (as opposed to jumping from a boat).

    • @JoeNelo
      @JoeNelo 3 года назад +1

      Swim out with flippers in hand, put them on in the water. OR walk backward through the waves with flippers on, and then when its deep enough.. Swim

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, what Joe said. Bring a pair of water shoes, like Crocs, as well with you. Walking on the neoprene socks wears them out very quickly. I'll usually sit down on a rock in the water and put my fins on. It all depends though, some beaches are sandy and some are Rocky. Some are flat calm and some have swell. It's really situational.

    Have you looked into immigrating to Bermuda through your family? I say pull the plastic out: "The most visible and disturbing impacts of marine plastics are the ingestion, suffocation and entanglement of hundreds of marine species."

    • @PNWSamson
      @PNWSamson  3 года назад +1

      Hmm, that's a good point. Might remove some life but ultimately save more in the long term... Definitely food for thought. And yes, we have. Unfortunately Bermuda is insanely expensive and we couldn't afford it. Bermuda makes Vancouver look affordable haha.
