  • Description: Hundreds of lives lost in the 2021 Texas Freeze resulted from decisions that ignored signals in weather forecasts weeks before the event. Affected by that experience, Matt Stein helped launch a company that is reinventing weather forecasting beyond two weeks using ocean data and artificial intelligence - and helping individuals in energy, agriculture, and water resources make life-saving decisions. Matt Stein is the CEO and co-founder of Salient Predictions, which uses ocean data and artificial intelligence to predict weather weeks and months in advance with high levels of accuracy and reliability. Prior to Salient, Matt led business development and was the first employee at Jupiter Intelligence, a leading science-focused company for physical climate risk analytics. Matt started his journey into climate-positive startups by founding and leading Multitude, an air quality technology company, to a successful acquisition. Matt is a father of three, aspiring jazz guitarist, and an advocate for Federal carbon pricing legislation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
