That is one if it doesn’t get at least a Blu-ray I will make my own home brew and print a custom cover. I have no problems if the movie isn’t available to purchase a physical copy. My gripe at the time was really the push for streaming these were readily available sometimes while still in theaters. I do equate home brews for movies you can’t buy to recording them off a vcr. I happily have The Babysitter (2017) plus The Dark Crystal Series all custom and both stuck on Netflix.
The Warner Archive DVDs are legit. They have always been DVD-Rs. Does Warner do the best job cleaning up these old movies...sometimes yes, sometimes no. The Warner Archive Blu-rays are all pressed, so if you get a burned one of those, it is a bootleg. I've bought all my Warner Archive DVDs second hand for an average of 75 cents each for the 26 I own.
Good to know. Hopefully the 2 I have get a Blu-ray copy soon. Super awesome you get them that cheap where I live DVDs go for 2-4 bucks a pop VHS used to be 50 cents now 1-6 bucks depending on titles
I posted a comment here yesterday, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, this is a good, thoughtful video. I buy a lot of DVD-Rs at flea markets, conventions and online, and sometimes I buy bootlegs. I can't say I feel good about doing it. Like you, I get rid of the knockoff when a legitimate release comes along.
Weird that happened, thanks for taking the time to re-comment. Everyone has that one movie they have to have in their collection so I’m sure many of us have a couple. What really gets me is how many times I’ve overpaid for a movie and now I could be getting one of these. All someone has to say is it’s a MOD disc.
It's a bootleg market because some movies have never been released on disc. Think some Hammer films and Amicus films. The Secret of blood island 1965 and Amicus Danger Route 1967.
That I agree with my problem was that Abigail had a Blu-ray release coming and while in theaters you could get a high quality from the bootleg from the digital source. There are plenty of movies and shows that might get lost before ever coming to home video so bootleg or home brew is saving those movies and shows. Zero problems with that if I can find the film on vhs I will grab it but something like the Dark Crystal show should be available for purchase it’s not home brew here we go.
I bought what I thought was a legit copy of "Out of Bounds" and it was a bootleg. When I complained, the seller ADMITTED it was a copy from a laser disc! And now they won't stop messaging me.
That happened to me once, ordered a hard to find foreign movie not sure if it ever had a dvd copy but here in the US it was at every blockbuster on vhs. Finally got it it was a burned copy from the vhs and they pretended like they didn’t know and refunded 2 dollars, but they never messaged me again.
@@DonStrand-d3x I'm Dutch and on a marketplace site a seller had these great cartoon series who are a bit hard to find.....he had suspiciously many and for quite reasonable prices too. I wanted to buy quite a few but a little voice told me to inquire/investigate some more. So I found out these were Malaysian versions. And those are known to be terrible....there's a box with all Studio Ghibli movies....looks great, image quality is abysmal. When I confronted the seller with these things being from Malaysia and just bad image quality (often directly from tv....fluctuating colors, vreally shite) he replied with 'Oh no no these are legit versions, legit in Malaysia^. 🤔😬 canceled my whole order and said I would spread the word about him. Personally I have no objections against bootleg dvd's or Blu's. In fact; they can be an invaluable source to us movie buffs. I recently purchased the 4 'Crimson Bat' movies for my collection. 4 movies, in sd quality, on one Blu-R. The Crimson Bat series featured a blind swordswoman, Oichi, who wanders trough Japan to fight injustice. I read about these movies over 20 (!!!!) years ago and there's still no official release on physical media. We can't wait forever... Agree? :)
I can completely agree on that point my only gripe is that I keep finding easily available movies at thrift stores on cd-r discs. Personally I’d be stoked to find something that was obscure or even unobtainable because it’s way oop.
There are idiots 'buying' movies to stream for 20 dollars?!!?! 🤣🤣🤣 These 'Chinese' blurays are great by the way!!! I have several. A movie like 'Space sweepers' which is not available was absolute perfect quality on my 'illegal' bluray and a very fun movie. I will NEVER stream! And I LOVE to collect....but not available then I'm buying great bootlegs or sail the high seas.
@@PainInTheS I will never stream either it’s a horrible business model. I have zero issues with hard to find movies that don’t have a physical copy. My irritation was truly a movie that was planned for release, and really good bootleg was available at the same time it was still in theaters. I think the movies should all be available to own. I have a video coming out soon about making your own and not buying bootlegs
Way before streaming was a thing and the internet being in its relative infancy, bootlegs were the only way for me to get some movies. I would see movies long before they came to the states. Some still aren’t available here. Trying to find them now even is sketchy at best. There are movies that never saw a home copy so trying to preserve them is a bootleg operation. Then there’s the WB issue I recently discovered. I started digitizing my physical copies for ease of access, I don’t collect as much anymore, and almost all of my WB discs were trash and I needed to purchase them again in order to have a copy. So I paid a lot of money for legit copies just to be junk when my bootlegs are still going strong.
That I can understand and I have a few foreign movies that never got any releases. I was more talking about the fact that these modern films are getting world wide releases and they are still in theaters at the same time you can buy them digitally causing rampant piracy and the studios don't seem to mind bc streaming is the focus.
@@michaelcarver540 probably does it was a digitally shot film the hd file is really easy to put on a disc. But I suspect the 4k I just preordered will be a little bit better and has tons of new special features.

If people would rather 6:21 stream it’s fine. But those same movies should be put to market for purchase by physical media collectors whether it is done on hulu, Disney plus, or Netflix.
It is because all they really put in theaters are the big blockbusters but that is supposed to draw in the movie fans and the general public. Lately they’ve done a good job at dividing fan bases and many people have stopped going. On the other hand it was partly the ritual of going to see a movie every weekend, for most that is gone now due to the fact that we no longer have a variety of movies.
Mike Flannigan just announcde this week I think that Hush is coming to physical soon while bashing Netflix hahaha ive almost bought that bootleg so many times cause that just a shame Netflix took it off & nobody else picked it up & it just disappeared, you can't even purchase it for digital. I only Bootleg for certain things. But yea if I can find it overseas, ill grab it
Didn’t know that, for sure a day one purchase for me. Thanks as I was thinking about the video I just kept remembering that Seinfeld episode and then I remember there was always that weird guy at work that would always have crappy copies of movies. @@80sMadeConsumer I bought the Blu-ray of an indie horror film called "Home Sweet Home". Humans place value on things that are scarce. If Star Wars was put out on streaming when it first released in the 70s, it wouldn't have nearly the cultural presence it does today. Same with any classic movie. Same with any classic song or album. That's why there aren't any real "superstars" in music anymore. It's because there's so much to choose from and little to no barrier to access the music that it devalues everything to basically nothing. Back in the 50s when Elvis came out, he was the king because there wasn't that much else to choose from and Elvis wasn't accessible unless you saw him in concert or bought his album or heard it on the radio. I think streaming has devalued everything to the point of nothing. There's an argument of "well why would you want companies choosing what you listen to or watch?" and I think that's a valid argument but I think there has to be a middle ground between everything is accessible for free vs we are forced to watch 2.5 hour disney movies for the rest of our lives.
Very true and an excellent way to think about it. Recently I’ve been complaining about the accessibility to celebrities and hearing everyone’s personal beliefs is getting old, I didn’t quite make that connection but it’s so true.
I did buy the bootleg of Miller’s Girl on eBay when it came out. Seller was kicked off a few days later, but I did receive my “copy”
