It's literally the onomatopoeia for the beating heart, in this case... from being around that friend. But I made the choice to express this phenomenon in such a way (turned on) because it's in line with the theme and "Does she make your heart race?" isn't what YOU really wants to know. I believe he's asking Minami if this there is a desire within her of the sexual sort when he is asking if hear heart is going doki-doki. That's why I went with 'turned on', instead of 'heart race'.
