    I love how you feel if something is not right then "I'm gonna fix it" Nice job on your upgrade. 👍

    Very cool addition. Im yet to do it but seen it. You add a internal toothed gear to the back of your handle and a small gear with a nob coming through to the front. Turn the small gear nob and the ratio make the handle move very sensitively. Need to find a internally cut ring gear to do it (or make one)

      @@paulfisher1160 Hi , not sure what you mean. There are only 3 standard spur gears used for the reduction. One is just an idler gear . Joe

      @@JoesModelEngines Yes following your way you have done it, perfect solution. Sorry its a hard thing to explain another method Ive seen. One where they literally attached an internal tooth gear to the back of the hand wheel with a small externally toothed gear with a nob protruding through one of the hand wheel spokes. No need for an idler gear. As you turn the nob, it turns the handwheel and the entire entity and your hand slowly rotates. Planetary gear style.
      Regards,
      Paul

      @@paulfisher1160 I understand now. The only thing I would say is the cost of an internal ring gear would be quite high. I’ve priced some very small ones and they were so high that I decided to build a different project. Thank you for your interest and I hope you enjoy the machining hobby as much as I do. I really like this Mod Joe, maybe one day I'll get around to doing this. I really find it irritating that I continuously need to press the handwheel inward to keep it engaged all the time, I would like to do away with that.

      @@bruceang82 Hi Bruce, If you do ,also change to a larger hand wheel. This is one of the best things I’ve done to my lathe and it’s a real pleasure

      Oops wrong button again. What I was trying to say is that the lathe is much more user friendly after the mod. You will thank yourself for many years after it’s done. Joe

    Enjoy your videos! I have a PM1228 that I really like, however, I want to upgrade my cross-slide & carriage hand wheels. Could you provide size and a good place to purchase them?

    • @JoesModelEngines
      @JoesModelEngines  Месяц назад

      @@latisimusd On the cross slide I used a 4” and the carriage I used a 6” ,if you didn’t do the gear reduction I would use a 7” on the carriage. The bigger wheels is a big help , but the gear reduction is a much better improvement.
      Thank you for watching my videos . Joe. Oh yes I found the wheels on eBay. I’m sure they are made in China.

    Great video. I just got a PM 1228 and can't wait to do this my lathe. How many teeth on the gears and where did you get the gears?

    • @JoesModelEngines

      Ouch I can’t believe I missed that, they were mod 1 gears one 60 tooth and two 20 tooth . I found them on eBay, sadly they are from China. 😿 thank you for your interest. Joe
