Triple H being handed the World Heavyweight Championship is very fitting. It carried on the last 2-3 year tradition WCW had for that belt, and it was fitting Eric Bischoff was the one handing out the title. At the same time, Triple H was also the number 1 contender for the WWE Undisputed Championship, meaning he has created the rest to obtain a chance to challenge the champion; but his wife hated Bischoff so much her husband wasn't allowed to compete for it.
Id agree if the W logo wasn’t so slapped on he belt. If it was smaller if 100%. But as someone that actually likes the WWE championship, I think it’s currently the best one. I don’t like all the other redesigns because I don’t think the colours work well.

Undertaker won the #1 contender's match on Smackdown later that week and seeing as HHH had won the contendership to the title on Raw and was Raw exclusive, he was given the belt. That fact gets lost in time due to narratives and backstory being forgotten.
WWE did the same thing to Dean Ambrose that they did to Rey Mysterio when Ambrose was WWE World Heavyweight Champion, they called him WWE World Champion then WWE Champion.
If memory serves......regarding the blurring out of the belt in late 1991 and early 92, I don't believe the Big Gold itself ever was blurred. What WAS though was an old WWF Tag Team belt that was used as a makeshift belt for Flair to use after he was not allowed contractually to use the Big Gold any longer. The reason for that of course would be obvious.
Actually, it was the Big Gold because Jim Herd wouldn’t give Flair his 25k deposit back on it. So, in terms of legality, it was technically his property because he essentially paid for it
What’s even funnier about them changing the name of the title under Rey Mysterio is that, during that same era of WWE, they gave Matt Hardy the cruiserweight title despite him being NOWHERE near a cruiserweight. They did that without changing the name of the title and that’s the only title that actually DID have a defined weight class. It’s almost like they’re inconsistent and lack internal logic? 🧐

I think they didn’t mention the words “heavyweight” during Rey’s reign is because the Cruiserweight Championship was still not retired in 2006 , so it would be weird that a cruiserweight wrestler is holding a heavyweight championship , it would mean that there was no division and that the other cruiserweights can win the WHC too. The new World Heavyweight Championship should NOT carry over the same lineage with the original title. Why would it? That wouldn't make any sense at all.
I still think the way to go would be have a WWE Champion that is the top guy both brands. He can defend on either show. Then RAW & SMACKDOWN would each have a brand champion. This champion would be the top contender for that brand against the WWE title holder. Since imho the woman's and tag team division isn't strong enough to have 3 Champions each. I would just have a single Champion that works both brands. This would basically eliminate the Intercontinental, United States, RAW & Smackdown Womans & men's tag team plus the Women's Champion of both brands. Due to having no brand only titles all women and tag teams can go to any show.
I think the new world belt should be what Reigns has. Ditch the two hideous W belts. Make the Intercontinental and US belts the top belts of their respective shows. Bring a little prestige back to those titles.
