So cool. Would love to see more micro content on color theory as it relates to polish with side by side visuals . I’m always curious about the terms swatchers use to describe polish colors like cool or warm - why purple and orange and red might look good together. Why some pinks look great on me while others are not flattering - the visual on dusty was perfect. I will remember that.
Both are right! Colors mixed with gray are muted, mixed with white they are pale, and mixed with black they are darkened. Saturation or chroma measure how far colors are from black, white, or gray.
I use dusty when referring to colors. I've used muted, cool, frosty, warm, bold, soft, blinding... colors kind of inspire their own description depending on my mood sometimes. But I love dusty. It's a great description and it perfectly explains the color when you see it. It does look kind of dusty.
Its fun cause with ink colors the appearance follows CMYK/light-subtractive colors theory. BUT if you use jellys and clear coat layers it has an RGB/light-additive effect as well. So by glazing with solid base and using clear coat and jelly layers, you "trap" light between layers and give off a luminous glowing appearance ✨️. DaVinci loved it!
I love your eye makeup here!! 😍 could we get a tutorial?? 👀 Also I love these discussions of color theory! I was always like, hmm dust is grey so dusty blues must lean more grey.
This is helpful! Something that helps me understand the properties of color is: 1. Light vs dark: if the color leans more white (light) or more black (dark). 2. Bright or clear vs muted: if the color is "clean" or some gray is dulling it. 3. Warm vs cool: if the color has more yellow (warm) or blue (cool) in it. Something even more helpful for people who just can't see past the "surface color" is to mix paint. Add black, white or gray to the colors to change the saturation and clarity and yellow and blue to change temperature and you'll start understanding color better. Is a process, analyzing colors on a daily basis (like people's clothes, signs, walls, etc.) will make you better every time :)
@@KelliMarissa You don't have the Cirque one or didn't recognize my tired brain's morphing of Orly's It's Brittany Beach? Cause either is understandable.

This was a great explanation with good visuals! Describing colors is so fun and personal!
Thank you so much! 🥰
I always say muted for colours with grey in it!
That's a great synonym too!

I use dusty as describing old vintage polishes like "dusty hunting" for us vintage polishes collectors!
Haha that sounds like a fun hobby, dusty hunting!
I love dusty/muted nail varnishes, they're my favourite
They are truly underrated!!
you ate DOWN with this explanation babes!!! not just for nail polish but color as a whole!
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
I appreciate this 😂😅
Glad to hear it Erin!! 😅💜

Totally agree with you! I do switch it up on occasion but I'll always end up describing desaturated polishes as dusty 🤣
Thanks. Great explanation
Yay glad you enjoyed!!! 🥰
LOVE this style of video! And it has definitely cleared things up for me 😊

I immediately understood what it meant when I heard u first use that word in your nail swatches ☺️😁😁
Hehe glad to hear it 😅😅
I love dusty colors
Agreed! Especially in the winter, dusty polishes always make me think of January and February haha
As always, you are clear and concise. Nicely done!

Now, compare the new Cirque to Brittany Blue! All blue all the time! 😊
I don't have that one!

thank you so much for this!!
Always happy to help 🥰🥰🥰
I’ve always used dusty to describe this in polish or anything really that has that greyishness (if that’s a real word 😂) to it
It’s Brittney beach! Yaaassss
Best blue of all time imo!! Hahaha
I've always used dusty as a color descriptor.
It's a great way to describe desaturated colors imo!
I love dusty colours. I haven’t had a proper colour analysis done (yet), but I’m pretty sure I’m somewhere in the Autumn field.
I hope I'm an autumn, it's my fave color palette to wear hahaha!
@@KelliMarissa Apparently we gravitate towards the colours that suit us the most, so you’re more than likely to be an Autumn. Probably a deep or true Autumn.
So good! Can you tell what color Cuccio that is? I love that brand! In fact.. I think we need a list of all these beauties. 😍 Please and thank you!!
We also use the word country for muted colors. Country blue, country green, country rose.

I would consider earth tones to only consist of "earthen" colors like browns, oranges, muted greens, etc!
Any suggestions for a dusty red? I really want like a true red, no brown/orange/ pink undertones
Hmm, that's tough because desaturated red does look pink or orange depending on the undertone! Would you be open to a dusty coral color?
@@KelliMarissa I figured 🥲 but yes! Open to anything!
Great explanation! I don’t think I cooks explain it. I just know what you mean. 😂😂😂😂
Which leads me to the question... does an dusty olive green exist or not?
The anti neon
Exactly! Haha!
DUSTY aka, 'ASHY' aka DULL, aka MUTE, aka MEH 😕, aka BLAH
... Ashy' is my go-to in my personal vocabulary. I'm sure no one cared but TOO LATE 😬😂
I think of them being creamy, lol
Muted. The word you are looking for is muted.
That's a good synonym too 🩷
lol …when u have 2000+ bottles of polish on the wall 🤗🫣🤩😆✨#polishsisterhood
