    That first fish is called a sculpin

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  2 года назад +1

      They’re everywhere around Manhattan, real ugly but seem to be willing to take anything so no complaints! People seem to get really curious about it too when you pull one up and they’re passing by

      It's a oyster toadfish. It's related to the sculpin though

    Great vid. Do you know any good spots in BK, Queens, LI for Dec?

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  3 года назад

      Thank you! Near Manhattan, December is a bit tougher on the East side, you might catch some late Tautog if you fish near rocks and piers with crab. Otherwise sandworms and/or shrimp will be the best bet to catch at least something. I might try Valentino Park (maybe Pier 4 which I've heard people go regularly) in Brooklyn and Hunter's point in Queens. I've also been meaning to try Randall's Island but haven't been - just an idea! Not much experience much more into LI though, although I'm sure there are tons of good ocean fishing throughout.

      @@FishNY any luck fishing artificial lures in saltwater? Also how’s freshwater fishing in ny/manhattan/brooklyn?

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  3 года назад +1

      @@hammoudeh-albng I was throwing artificials near Randall's Island this January, and didn't get a bite although I had a portable radar that told me there were fish - never tried in the Hudson. I've been told that the East River and the NY Harbor could be better for lures, but I've never seen anyone succeed with them to be honest. I'm sure if you can catch a school of blues around the harbor, you'll kill it with the lures though. Freshwater I'm not as sure about - was going to do my first one in Central Park this summer actually. I'll let you know by posting hahaha. I'm more of a fly guy though so maybe I'll post some of those as well. You fish around the city?

    Dude, do not fish there. The water is polluted with pcb's and mercury. Anything near Manhattan is a major construction area. Plus the boats that pass through there are releasing oil into the water etc. It's very nasty water.

    If the shrimp is cold.. will it be issue to catch?

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  3 года назад

      Don't think so - I use frozen shrimp all the time - usually it melts after like 5 minutes in the water.

    Does fishing require license there?

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  2 года назад

      No license required! But since it is saltwater, you should register online at the NY saltwater registry (its free).

      I actually had to Shazam this it’s been so long! It’s “Sleeves” by Cushy - I downloaded it from epidemic sound. The music at the end is “Rapture” by Ooyy, also downloaded from Epidemic Sound.

    there seems to be a bigger variety of fish there than in hunters' point. 12 hours and caught a single striped bass couple of days ago

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  3 года назад +1

      I think season and timing is key - I've fished that Brooklyn spot early spring and gotten skunked a bunch of times. Hunter's Point is a bit more consistent year round but the East River generally is pretty tough. I went out yesterday on the Hudson looking for striper and got nothing, it might be just a tad early for the Spring run. My guess next weekend and the one after that will be much hotter for stripers!

    • @johnalmonte5460

      @@FishNY i caught a really nice striper around 26” on bunker at hunters point. Fish finder rig isn’t really working there cause there’s so much seaweed and stuff on the bottom. I’m probably going to try a hi lo rig next time I go. I’m only 18 and just started to learn the hobby so i have a lot to learn. Your videos inspire me 👍🏽 maybe I’ll see you out there

    Thanks for the video! I'm trying the East River for the first time tomorrow, is there a bait shop (not whole foods lol) that you could recommend ?

    • @FishNY
      @FishNY  3 года назад

      That's awesome! Sorry for the late reply, hopefully you're still around, but the reason I often stick with grocery stores is because I haven't found a good bait shop in Manhattan (esp during the pandemic). I sometimes used to go out to Flushing (Corona or Daniel's) when or if I was in the area or looking for bunker. Squid, Shrimp and Clams you can use as bait that most supermarkets have those. Bloodworms and bunker might require a trip to the boroughs - I haven't been to one in Brooklyn just because of timing, but if you end up going to one, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
      East River is finicky, so GOOD LUCK!
