43mm is the diagonal of 24x36 ff format. 43 is the "ideal" foc. leng. for 35 mm cameras. My most used lens on a m-body for many years was 40mm. I still use it manually w/ 6 & 7 series. I'm considering the good & cheaper viltrox 40 f2.5 over the sony 40 G.

On my lost 250mm f/5.6 mirror lens, focus can go beyond infinity for temperature adjustments.
