    Losing My Religion - REM
    Wonderwall - Oasis
Breaking The Law - Judas Priest (really low for an 80's metal song)
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn (also quite low for an 80's ballad)
George Thorogood - Bad To The Bone (still sounds ok if you can't do the grit, just swagger around the bar drinking to pull it off lol)
    AUS/NZ bonus round
Men At Work - Down Under
Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up
The Swingers - Counting The Beat
    Icehouse - Great Southern Land
OMC - How Bizzare (lots of words, but quite talky)

Given my "skill" level and the sound of my singing voice I'll keep doing what I've done for the last 30 years: "Sing" along to Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson played LOUD. The LOUD part is the most important thing, that way nobody has suffer through listening to my voice, not even me, and I can imagine that it was my own voice. Doesn't really matter if I miss easy notes or if I miss difficult ones, right? So I'll keep going for the difficult ones, that's a much more flattering illusion ;)
Kidding (well, not really) aside, it's a nice list and if I wanted to start singing (I once did, MANY years ago) I'd very likely go for Sultans of Swing as that's one of the first songs I've butchered on guitar ;)

Awesome post, Beth. I really liked it, especially the plug for trying the Ramones and Dire Straits. For Dire Straits, I think “Romeo and Juliet” is a great Karaoke song to sing with my untrained and uncooperative voice. I’d also like to add that most Tom Petty songs are achievable (since he had this amazing “Every Man” sound, though he knew exactly how to use his voice as a professional singer), “Free Falling”, “I Won’t Back Down”, “American Girl”, “Learning to Fly”, “Even the Losers” and so much more are doable to sing at Karaoke by the average guy. That is until you’ve drunk enough to try to belt out Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” or Meatloaf’s “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”!!! 😆

My range is G2 to F5#. A4s and A4#s are pretty easy for me. Singing sustained at B4 or above is pretty difficult and sounds whiny however I can hit notes upto an F5# on a good day and C5s at will. My falsetto above a D5 is also weak but head voice is strong in that range. I can sing nearly all the popular Eagles songs pretty well.

Category videos are a great change up and a great overall idea. Lots of reasons and one that may not be as glaringly obvious as some others is that, those of us that have been watching you for some years, adore you for your kind heart, gentle demeanor and thoughtfulness for others. We would love to know more about you and some of your most loved musical thoughts, genres, etc.. etc... a great way to share a little insight into those, as well as the absolute endless reason your followers would enjoy this type of content.. such as, there little thing I do almost daily is use things like Spotify, RUclips and forums to find new artists and songs that I might like. I’ve been singing my entire life.. in the shower.. but music is a HUGE part of my life. Those that know me best would say I speak through it. So, long story - not - so - short is that one of the reasons I enjoy watching you is to learn and find new music!! Not to mention, respectfully to you and yours, the fact you’re quite easy on the eyes, as they say. Category list is a fantastic idea! Count me in!!!

I love karaoke. My first song I ever sang for karaoke was The Doors - People Are Strange. I remember going up on the stage and being quite nervous. The music started and I began singing. I then heard a voice come across the speakers and thought, "oh, that guy sounds like he knows what he's doing. I'll just sing along with him." I was singing along to me, but it just sounded so different than what I thought I sounded like. I definitely advise someone to sing into an amplified mic to get the idea of what their voice sounds like and kinda tweak it to how you want it to sound as you are singing. This will help you from feeling cringe about hearing the sound of your own voice to being able to tolerate it. If you don't know what I mean, you haven't sung into an amplified mic. People hear something different from what you hear.

I have a low range and a dark, scretchy voice. Songs I loved to sing in my rock band:
    J.J.Cale / Eric Clapton - Cocain
Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in the jaw
Buddy Holly - Slippin" and a Slidin'
Sam & Dave / ZZ Top - I thank you
Led Zeppelin - Rock'n'Roll (MUCH lower than the original - the audience will get crazy anyway!)
Bob Dylan / Hendrix / U2 = All along the Watchtower
    Jimi Hendrix = Hey Joe
Eddie Cochran / The Who = Summertime Blues
Sam Cooke = Bring it on home
The audience is not interested if the song is in the original key or even octave as long as you sound honest and with passion! When I sing, "Bring it on home" sounds like a drunkered is weeping at the bar (which fits to the song).

for mid low, maybe that song How To Save a Life. I brought it up like 3 whole steps and the verse is still too low for me. for mid high Drops of Jupiter. The first changes registers where I can sing it without moving it, but isn't into my upper range. the other, mainly just wordy. Not too much span to breathe, but lots of places to do it. like a middle C# to a brief A# probably easy to sing down an octave, and at karaoke no one will care. I have a friend who sings Mariah Carey and Celine Dion songs down an octave. They're still very pretty. :)

Another couple to consider are Smash Mouth's All Star or their cover of I'm A Believer. My range is pretty wide (E2 - G#4) but these two are really comfortable for me. I can sing The Monkees version fairly easily but it crosses my break, where Smash Mouth is a bit lower and I can sing along in chest voice. Other favourites for karaoke are Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To The Moon or High Hopes. If you can scat, Cab Calloway is in the right range, too. There's a fair amount of folk music in the baritone range, too. I'll put in a plug for the late Stan Rogers' Make and Break Harbour.

What do you think about 45 from Shinedown? Specifically the Acoustic version, also, one that I find really interesting is (Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay, a really good song that is easier for me to sing.

    • @BethRoars
      @BethRoars  3 года назад +1

Shinedown is definitely not the easiest! He is very good at making it sound easy. Sitting on the Dock of the Bay can be easy depending on what key you sing it in, and if you are going to miss the runs out. If you follow all the runs it can be pretty difficult and most beginners will sing it in a lower key.

    • @matheusfili
      @matheusfili 3 года назад

@@BethRoars I usually try to sing a lot of different songs from different genres, but my favorites to sing are usually Shinedown and Breaking Bejamin songs, I am certain that I am not as good as Brent, but I am at least confident that I am already used to most Shinedown songs.
As for Sittin on the Dock of the Bay, I prefer the Smith & Myers version, so I don't quite know how much harder or easier it would be compared to the original version. I would like your opinion on it.
Edit: I really love the singing style of Brent Smith, putting a lot of energy, power and emotion on your voice, almost as if you were shouting/crying, holding those longer notes, but all that requires a lot of breathing and since I never did any vocal course or anything like that, I am not certain that I understand how to do it properly or if it is good or not, my experience singing is only by my passion for it and singing along songs since my childhood.

Have you done something about whistling in songs? Rob Lundquist, tenor in Homefree, has done quite a bit. Their original song, "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" demonstrates that and Tim Foust who wrote the song says he wanted something to show off Rob's whistling. I am sure there are other examples and I understand it is difficult to do but the only other one I know of lately is Avi Kaplan and his technique looks very different as demonstrated in his song "It Knows Me". Do you have any other examples and suggestions for whistling in songs? Thank you.

I've found that two songs that work for me are Possum Kingdom, by Toadies, and Like a Stone, by Audioslave. It seems easier for me to sing songs that have a slightly higher register (although maybe not quite as high as vocalists like Geddy Lee or Bruce Dickinson).
Thank you for making this video. :-)

Black Sabbath songs are usually easy like Paranoid, NIB and War Pigs

I find What's My Age Again by Blink 182 even easier than All the Small Things and is one of my go to songs for karaoke.

I'm not a good singer, but... I could definitely give these a try. I've been listening to prog-metal... and well, to say that the vocal style in that genre is "aspirational" is putting it LIGHTLY 😂

How difficult is it to sing “Love street” by The Doors?

I think we need the opposite. Songs we *shouldn't* sing! Can I go first with Yesterday, which starts low but climbs into the stratosphere for an old git like me 😄

Although you gave no example in my range, there were several where I just could sing an octave below 😃 (or even sing completely in my head voice .)

I Wanna Be Sedated reminds me of the My So-Called Life episode where we first heard Jared Leto sing.

Love this! Motivated me to find an online virtual keyboard. Seems my range is about G2 to MAYBE C4 or so. Any recommendations for us down there??? (I've had SOME luck with things like "The Weeping Song" (Nick Cave), "Superman's Song" (Crash Test Dummies), "Joe Hill" (Paul Robeson--but a BIT low even for me!), some Johnny Cash...

I used to be able to drop my voice really low to sing like the Oak Ridge Boys singer. Not sure why, age I guess 🤷‍♂️

I found that the best karaoke tune for any and all vocal ranges is "Tequila" by The Champs 🤣
All kidding aside, that was a really great list.
Keep up the good work Beth !!
