  • The air conditioner with heat pump (Houghton Bellaire 3800 - AC3800) that we ordered came in a week early! Follow along as we get that bad boy A/C up on the roof of the RV and install. With this installed, we'll be able to renovate the interior of this vintage motorhome in comfort this summer.
    AC Unit with Heat Pump - amzn.to/3KSFIpy
    Keep in mind that it arrived in two boxes. We didn't know that ahead of time. Luckily, the second box arrived the day we were planning to install it.
    This is going to be one HUGE project! We'd love your suggestions on what to do with this RV!!! Please subscribe and follow our progress as we revive this retro camper.

    Hey Christy, when you do the black tank put your cleaning stuff in down the toilet. Right before you start driving around dump 20 lbs of ice in it. While the rig is moving and shaking the ice will help loosen any particles stuck to the sides and top! Then it melts and goes out the poo chute. Like putting nuts and bolts in an old gas tank to shake around and get the crud out. But the ice is easier to get out! Great progress!!

      Hi Nick, that is a good idea; we'll definitely need to try that trick with the ice. Poo chute, lol. Thanks for watching and commenting and it's nice to hear from you :-)

    Well that was fun. This install asking for the sealant is different then most others I've seen. Usually they just tighten down with the foam gasket, but what's a little extra sealant going to hurt, right?? That unit should be enough to pretty much frost you once you have all the walls back together and everything up and running. Good work getting that installed in record time with no prior experience!!

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  Год назад +2

      Hello! Yeah, it's weird that it asked for the self-leveling sealant. I almost want to read the directions again in case we got it wrong, lol. Anyway, like you said, can't hurt so hopefully no leaks! We appreciate you watching and commenting!

    Oh Guys! I was so worried about your ladder while you were heaving the AC up there! I had one of those ladders fold in the middle on me because I had it the wrong way around. Check the intructions on the side of the ladder. I'd hate you to have an accident like I did...
    (I wasn't hurt - but I'm still an idiot...)
    PS, I learned that self-levelling sealant is really meant to gloop over the top of exterior horizontal screw heads and joints on roof vents etc. Non-self levelling ADHESIVE sealant is the best gloop for joint sealing / sticking down vents and AC etc.. But I'm sure it'll be fine.
    PPS, The AC looks great! 🙂

    • @retrorevivals
      @retrorevivals  Год назад +1

      So, funny you should say that about the sealant... The directions specifically said self-leveling (I think) but we've been thinking about that too. For the purpose between gasket and roof, self-leveling doesn't seem like the best idea. We wish we would have used that same ProflexRV stuff that we've been using on the walls and whatnot. Hopefully this doesn't leak but, if it does, we'll have a good idea why. And, we did have the ladder backwards because it was more flat on the back side to side the box... Never occurred to us that it might weaken it, sheesh! Thankfully, we avoided a catastrophe 😵‍💫. Thanks for watching! Nice to hear from you again.

    • @ColinBarrett001

      @@retrorevivals Great to talk to you too, Tyler and Christy.
      It's a steep learning curve for anyone taking on a project like this. I used the wrong glue while re-skinning my RV's rear panel (I won't bore you, but I learned....)
      And thanks again for sharing! 🙂 But do be careful with that hinged ladder! (I'd rather you think me an interfering old fool than hear of an accident...)
      Continuing good luck with it and I'm looking forward to the next episode! 😅 I'm going outside in the rare English sunshine now to work on my own RV's stinky bathroom! 😅

    • @greggv8
      @greggv8 Год назад +1

      @Retro Revivals the original wheels were 16.5" because back then all the 16" truck wheels were split rim bias ply that needed inner tubes. They were dangerous. At some point the tire companies decided to make 16" radial tubeless truck tires for drop center wheels. Then it became difficult and expensive to get 16.5" tires. I remember the 16.5" tires having on them do not mount on 16" rim. When 16" radials came along they and the ones for split rims had warnings to only mount on the proper rim type.

    I would like to do the same thing. The wire that was coming out of the roof to tie in your new AC, where did you find those wires? Were they already in the ceiling?

    • @retrorevivals

      Yes, since we replaced an existing A/C, the wires were already there. If they weren't, we would have had to run a wire from the breaker box. Thanks for watching!

    Доброго времени суток. Республика Карелия. Приношу прощения что в прошлый раз не смог ответить как убрать любой запах. Прежде всего мои поздравления в приобретении кондиционера и установки его на крышу кемпера. И так как быстро и очень просто убрать любой запах в машине. Прежде всего надо соблюдать безопасность. Надо обычную газету \не глянец\ сворачиваете газету в трубочку но так что бы газета могла гореть и поджигаете. Именно поджигаете. Но при этом все двери и окна должны быть закрыты. После того как газета сгорит открываете двери и окна и проветриваете помещение. Если запах еще ощущается то повторить. Повторяю это не шутка. Это проверенный метод. Лично я так делал много раз убирал запах пролитого дизельного топливо и мне помогло. Еще раз мои поздравления в приобретение кондиционера. Ждем продолжения. Здоровья вам и семье.
