Great stuff - the Deltas were suprisingly easy to fit - its the trimming of the cable thats a challenge - fit, set, mark, remove and cut then re-fit, Dan
What a fantastic video. Seriously there’s nothing like vintage bikes and parts and I’m coming from NOT having nostalgia goggles on nor was it my era. This was before my time but it’s CLEAR the craftsmanship and quality was absolutely higher back then than now!
Gotta love that jersey and cap!!! Bravo! You should be able to feel the rifling in the downtube though the BB shell if it was made from TSX. 14-26 cogstack sounds like junior gearing - not for "Guidone"! Lever placement is way off - Campagnolo insists the bottom of the lever be inline with the drop, use a large straightedge along the bottom of the drop - the tip of the lever should touch it. Battaglin + Bah-tah-yeen. Guido Bontempi = Gwee-doh Bone-temp-ee Massimo Ghirotto = Mah-see-moh Gear-roh-toe Campagnolo = Kahm-pahn-yolo. Beautiful bike! Complimenti!
Excellent build. This was the era when Campagnolo realised that they were lagging behind SunTour and Shimano so were gradually getting their act together, apart from the Delta's which looked so cool but were a mistake. It's great that you kept it as original with all of that provenance
Awesome build. Loved these bikes with Stephen Roche et al. Almost bought one a couple of years ago but it was a touch too small. Hope to see a video of you riding this soon and get your views. thanks
Beautiful build Dan, I’m sure you’re going to absolutely love the ride that SL frame is going to give you. Another great video with some valuable cycling history lessons thrown it 👍🏼
Yep, shakedown ride was pretty good - needed a bit more toe-in on the pads but other than that all good - can`t wait to start putting it through its paces, Dan
@@vintagevelos9517 thank you very much. Is it an original or repro if you don’t mind me asking? Just wary of the quality of some of those available from eBay 😊
Great video as always and thank you for continuing to produce quality, informative content. You would probably pick this up on the final check before a ride but - just in case - make sure you reverse the brake pads on the rear brake. I made that mistake once and it wasn't pretty
Man, I figured that would get spotted - correct, picked it up on the final tightening check and flipped them around - you can see them correctly fitted in the final close up shot in the end shots, Dan
Amazing vid Dan. I was lucky enough to get a Carrera ex team bike during lockdown from a guy in South Africa. Mine is 59cm and is marked 10 or 1C under the bb. Must ask who it belonged to. It's too big for Roche so for some reason I always suspected it was Zimmerman. I have Synchro on it but I can't figure out if they actually used Synchro in the Tour. It is so tricky to set up! I put a modern block and chain on and that works better. Heavy enough bike but I love it. Ride it most weeks. Keep up the great work!
Check inside the BB; feel for ridges inside the seat tube and donwtube. If yes, depending on year it will mean: slx, spx, tsx Fork: check for ridges in the steer tube, if yes sl
That build is certainly a credit to you Dan, very cool bike. Is the rear dropout 126mm or 130mm I’m asking as I’m contemplating going 7 speed on my Scapin which is 126mm, commonly the land of six speed but I have heard of it being done.
Great video! I have a vintage Battaglin I bought in 1986. Is there any way I can tell the model? What should I look for? I want to take it back as close to original as I can get it. It may be a long project but she's worth it!
Nice - doeds it have a sticker with the frame tubing details? First place to start - probably Columbus SL - plus, does it have Campagnolo dropouts? Dan
@@vintagevelos9517 ok 59 getting into common Dutch rider frame size territory there lol. Wow how tall are you Dan, sounds like you're about 6 foot 3? (I'm 5 ft 11 1/2 and like frame about a 56 cm c to c).
Hiding the mechanism didn’t do these brakes any favors. People instinctively want to see how their components work on bikes. Probably had to do with rainwater spraying all five pivots relentlessly.
Glad to see I’m not the only one with a DIY headset press made from a threaded rod,two washers and two nuts
Works a treat and loads better than a hammer... Dan
Loving this. Just got me some deltas - Croce with external springs, and slowly collecting parts for next build.

Absolutely superb love your videos, built one of these up myself during lockdown, not ex team bike but nice enough 👍
I`d given up on tracking down a team bike and was looking for a replica when I got lucky with this one, Dan

Yep, didn`t feel any ridges so pretty certain ins SL, unless they sneaked in a custom tube here and there but I doubt it, Dan
From experience most riders used to switch the rear gears into friction mode in the lever for better results.
Yep, Campagnolo indexing is just a bit rubbish in 7 speed, but if you get it right its ok - nothing like Dur-Ace though which is just a joy, Dan
