Hello, The multimeter was used to make sure that the micro switches went to near zero ohms, but is not necessary. The oscilloscope was used for azimuth alignment. If you want to be very precise like I am than you need one but you also need laboratory alignment tapes and a torque meter. As a rule I do not replace any capacitors. Pioneer uses High Quality condensers with very high dielectric strength, low leakage and working voltages far above for the circuit parameters. Cheers, Tom Possche
two tips for you... 1) oil your magnifier lamp hinges. 2) the rt909 has. an in/out reel adjustment slot on the fwd end of each reel shaft (facing the user) a simple flat head screwdriver will enable you to avoid all the tape scrape i could hear during the segments when the 7 inch reels were spinning.
Cordial saludo. Arturo Colombia.
It is a pleasure to see a fine technician at work doing things the right way and not skipping on the very important details that will provide long reliable life.
Just terrific, granted it's not the whole grueling process, but it is a labor of love and this kind of attention to detail must be a fascinating watch. Love the test music at the end. If I still had my 909, I would let this man work on it, better yet i would love to sit and watch him do it live! My god, can you imagine?.... makes me sad I don't have my baby anymore. Great video even if it is an advertisement, but wow, what an advertisement!
Hello friend, I have a question. How do I repair the screen of my reel to reel pioneer? Everything works and sounds great, but the panel went off. Can you give me some advice?
Some units were meant for the US 110V and some for export with 110V/220V Yours could be a later or an earlier model. The unit I worked on was from one of my customers, who required a Restoration. Cheers, Tom
I didn"t go that far on the tear down. The one I got had some of the rubber parts turn to tar, pinch rollers and belt. My question is,I want to align the heads,is the cost of the test tape over $200.00 or am I looking in the wrong places?.
Greetings, On your RT-909 you have a set of fuses, on mine there are no fuses, is yours dual voltage? do I have a later model? any info appreciated....
I have this Reel to Reel I wish I could use it still and it was looking as good as this one on the inside :( Great work, if your ever in the UK please let me know hard to find anyone to fix mine :) Nice Vid. All the best
Hello ! I have a almost mint cosmetic condition 909 and it playbacks 100% . The problem is when a record and erase a tape : 1) When I try to erase a song, it doesn't erase it 100% ! The left side still plays the song in a very low volume ! 2) When I try to record over a pre recorded tune and playback this new recording, I can hear the old tune in a very low volume ! Do you know why ? PS : The heads were cleaned e they look very mint pieces !
I would never file the contact considering these parts are impossible to find, once you file it, you lost some metal on that contact and it won't last as long. Just clean the carbon off is good enough.
that´s olders "home recording reel to reel tape tubes like gruding TK-47 and others like that" will work well for recording voice (singing), old style (elvis styles) with all the saturation of the tube time? all warm weight and harmonics that recordings used to had? to play,
Hey master, if I can help I thank you, I have a pioneer rt 909 that will not start the vumeters panel, check the connectors but nothing, I guess enough energy does not reach you, you can help me with that? Thank you. I am using a translator online.
Hello I got a question when I record on my pioneer 909 VU meter , and from source shows me very nice level recording ,soon as I record something and put the same tape whatever I record to the different reel to reel recorders then I see low level, And again the same tape on the completely different reel to reel Machine maybe I'm doing something wrong? thank you
Jennifer - I've tried, for some time, to secure your father's DVDs. Unfortunately, none of my efforts have produced positive results. Is it still possible to purchase the set? If so, I'm definitely interested.
Jennifer - Yeah, I've scoured You Tube, but there is only one clip from the DVDs. Ironically, about a year ago, there was a full set on Ebay, but somebody outbid me with .003 seconds left, or I would have raised my offer. I even contacted him and said I'd pay him whatever he wanted for copies. He declined my offer, saying that he felt that would be unethical. I told him your father had passed away, but it was no dice. So thanks anyway. And if you ever find the files, let me know. I'd love to purchase a set. Thanks, Scott
So why didn't you show us what did you adjust to get the max amplitude and in phase signals? I thought that's the whole purpose of this video, to show us how, not just to show us what.
My pioneer Rt909 was working till I clean inside with Crc Electronics Cleaner,it does want to run, still has power, can any body help me Please 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️👊👊👊😧😧😥😢😪
This preview isn't worth a plug nickel. You can't understand what he says and he doesn't follow through on any one aspect of what he is doing. Very POORLY DONE, even if just meant for a "taste" = tastes awlful !!

Ironicly, I just bought this exact same reel to reel. The only thing it needs is two new pinch wheels.
The tension wheel business looks scary.
