Ta-Nehisi Coates speaks at IU Bloomington

Ta-Nehisi Coates, one of the nation’s most original and influential writers about race, spoke at IU Bloomington on Friday, Oct. 23. Coates is the author of "Between the World and Me," a New York Times bestseller, and is among this year’s 24 recipients of "genius" grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Coates delivered his talk to a capacity audience in the 1,460-seat Musical Arts Center. Afterward, he met privately with a diverse group of students from many universities attending the Public Policy and International Affairs Program conference on campus and with members of the IU student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Coates’ visit was arranged by the School of Public and Environmental Affairs with primary co-sponsors including The Media School, the College Arts and Humanities Institute and the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs.
