She gave up Hollywood and became a Evangelist! I had the pleasure of meeting Denise Matthews in 2013. She preached at my church in Indianapolis. I kept in contact with her up until her death. Praise Jesus she is with the Lord now.

Denise Matthews was a blessing to me. I was going through a hard time and I had seen a video of her speaking. She posted her number on a ministry website and I called her. She ministered to me over an hour. Talked with me about memorizing scripture. She was very serious about her relationship with Jesus and she made it mission to help others. She had me meet up with one of friends at a church so I could get baptized and saved. I will always be grateful for her taking the time help me when I was down.

Sadly, being an extraordinarily beautiful woman can act as a curse in a society so obsessed with beauty. Many exceptionally beautiful women are victimized by men from early ages. They are often used and abused by men, and despised and plotted against by women. They are also often very lonely It’s so horrible. I wish it wasn’t the case.

I had the greatest opportunity of meeting her in Central Park having a whole hour of conversation. She was beautifully inside and out. RIP Denise Matthews.
I met Denise at my job. She was signing for a membership. When I was preparing to sign her up, we were having a conversation. She asked me if I recognize who she is. I said I do but I can't pin point who she is. Then she said Vanity and all of sudden I knew that face. And she is gorgeous in person. Our conversation was about her ministry, her drug use and bad health. Our conversation was a least an hour long. She has beautiful soul. She was ministering just one city down from my job. When I heard of her passing, I knew it was due to her bad health. Her kidneys were shot according to our conversation. It was a real honor meeting her. Rest in Heaven Ms Denise Matthews.
You forgot to say how her mother abandoned her due to her mental health problems, leaving her with her father who beat her EVERY day for hours because he didn’t believe she was his - a 5 year old going thru do much hell, not understanding why she deserved such pain. Her father was a brutal, violent drunk that she called a gorilla because of the way he abused her. It’s no wonder she grew up with so many problems - her parents broke her and she felt worthless and tries to find love they men. Prince was the only man she truly loved and begged him to marry her several times, she just wanted to be love but he was young and immature with so many women running after him. She tells how she was sent to school with so many black and blue bruises on her little body.😢

Just goes to show, no matter how beautiful you are or how desired and adored by men and envied by women you are; if you have low self esteem for whatever reason, no amount of adoration, fame and fortune will fix you. If anything it just makes it easier to harm yourself because you get caught up in all the glitz and glamor, however when you're all alone the demons will come calling and whisper all those lies that you believe about yourself.The devil didn't win because when she passed away she was in Christ.

My cousin, Alfred Sole directed her in the 1980 fantasy film, TANYA'S ISLAND and described Denise as wildly talented, kind, warm...genuinely good-natured.
I'll never forget being her friend on Facebook. She actually interacted with her "friends". I was in college at the time and was bored in a clinical. I posted about it and she commented something like, "Once I found Jesus, I've never been bored." I was shocked! I couldn't believe she commented on MY post. I don't think I responded. I was just in shock. Will never forget that!
I met her back in 2007, I believe in Fairfield, Ca, I believe she lived in Fremont, Ca . I worked at a Hilton Hotel at the time and I took her bags to her room, I was so star struck even though at that time she was a Christian but so was I so, it didn’t matter. I could go on, I have a bit of a small history with her but man, she was so beautiful even then, really positive attitude, was all about the things of the Lord and I got a chance to meet and fellowship with someone who I grew up with and knew through the movies ( the last dragon & action Jackson ) . It seemed like everyone had a crush on her growing up . I’m sure she is with the Lord now . Glory be to GOD . To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord . 2 Corinthians 5:8 I believe . ✊🏼❤️

When Denise decided not to take the role in Purple Rain, God was protecting her from something. I'm glad that she survived the overdose and used the rest of the time she was on earth to spread the Word. RIP Denise. Gone but not forgotten ❤

Yes, she got on my nerves by interrupting and trying to downplay what Vanity was trying to tell. She seemed to want to cut her off anytime she got deep about how Satan works.
She definitely meant real ghost and demons, and I'll assume she was still dealing with mental issues from drug abuse. Not to say those things can't happen, I find it hard to believe they were happening to her, but then again. You know what they say. Demons come after the weak. You don't have to be hardcore religious or religious at'll. You just need love for self.

I love Denise, she’s such an inspiration for changing ones life! I know a lot of men can be dumb in regards to women and their physical looks, but men would darn near lose their minds around her. Although she looks great, I felt there was something up with that, she later revealed she did witchcraft to be irresistible to people, not just men I may add! She became truly beautiful when she gave up that sick life and she got right with The Most High and started following the teachings of HIS only begotten SON. This is when we saw her true beauty. People need to stop obsessing over physical beauty and look into the beauty of people’s souls.
Pretty Mess is the right title for Vanity's life and career. I remember seeing Vanity crying in a church for a VH1 show (I think it was called," Whatever Happened To?"), it broke my heart since she's not with us. RIP Vanity.
If I'm not mistaken "Where Are They Now?" was the name of the show. I saw that episode with Vanity and she was truly transformed. She was done with Vanity and gave her life to Christ. God bless her soul.🙏

I appreciate you taking the time out to create this video. And yes, these talk show hosts; even back then, had a narritive to keep the show a certain way. And I'm glad Denise stuck to her convictions throughout the interview and didnt let her detrack from the main point. Joan had no interest in Denises' conversion, only to bring back the troubles in her past because that what she was known for. The name she hated, Joan wanted to re-glamourize. How ironic it is, Vanity the star denounced her name, and all Joan wanted to talk about was vanity: how worthless is that!
What gets me is how she's reaching out, asking for understanding, and spiritual guidance in whatever she's seeking/talking about..........and everyone is like. 👀 🙃. Typical performance faces that's more confused than her.
What an amazing documentary. She was an absolutely beautiful woman, and it’s good to see that she turned her life around before she passed. The sad news is she’s not well known with most of today’s generation.

Vanity was 1 of my 1st crush as a little boy in the 80s, along with Sade, Cindy Crawford. I still think she has the most beautiful face I've ever seen. I didn't know she carried so much pain to the extent she expressed in this documentary. I would love to see a movie of her life. I can see Zendaya and maybe Halle Berry portray Vanity in a movie. May she rest in peace. 🙏

Zendaya is too goofy and looks nothing like Vanity and Halle is just too old. The closest we can get to Vanity in terms of looks would be an Indian actress. Primce and vanity were soulmates. He transitioned a little time after she did. Dennise died February 15, 2016 at the age of 57 , prince died april 21st 2016 at the age of 57. Two months apart.
I met her at my church in 1999 as Denise Mathew saved and walking with Jesus and she was an amazing woman of God with that life of Vanity left behind her buried and gone. RIP Denise , you are with the King of Kings.

I am happy that she had some inner peace before she passed. I suppose her story is a reminder of how a person’s life can look so wonderful from the outside but on the inside it’s truly not. No matter where a person comes from there are trials and tribulations. Money and beauty can make life easier in many ways, but people still have to protect and nourish their souls. And I will always believe that there was a connection beyond human comprehension between Denise and Prince. I have always found it ironic that he died two months after she did.

I met her years ago. She had complimented me...I was like "Are u kidding me, I wanted to be u" I actually said that to her. I just thought she was (still is) the most beautiful woman in the world. She's beautiful inside and out. She was so nice to me. She was signing autograph pics in the mall and I didn't have any money to pay for it, so she gave it to me for free. So sweet. She was with that football player at the time living in the Bay Area. I never forget meeting her. She had given me a business card and invited me to her church she had attended in San Jose. CA. I still have the autograph pic! I will treasure it always ❤
She was an incredibly stunning woman but denise would be the first to say her greatest eternal legacy is what she did for the kingdom of God i was so delighted as a believer when she became one and spent the rest of her life doing God’s work ✝️

I met Denise at my job. She was signing for a membership. When I was preparing to sign her up, we were having a conversation. She asked me if I recognize who she is. I said I do but I can't pin point who she is. Then she said Vanity and all of sudden I knew that face. And she is gorgeous in person. Our conversation was about her ministry, her drug use and bad health. Our conversation was a least an hour long. She has beautiful soul. She was ministering just one city down from my job. When I heard of her passing, I knew it was due to her bad health. Her kidneys were shot according to our conversation. It was a real honor meeting her. Rest in Heaven Ms Denise Matthews.

You forgot to say how her mother abandoned her due to her mental health problems, leaving her with her father who beat her EVERY day for hours because he didn’t believe she was his - a 5 year old going thru do much hell, not understanding why she deserved such pain. Her father was a brutal, violent drunk that she called a gorilla because of the way he abused her.
It’s no wonder she grew up with so many problems - her parents broke her and she felt worthless and tries to find love they men. Prince was the only man she truly loved and begged him to marry her several times, she just wanted to be love but he was young and immature with so many women running after him.
She tells how she was sent to school with so many black and blue bruises on her little body.😢

Just goes to show, no matter how beautiful you are or how desired and adored by men and envied by women you are; if you have low self esteem for whatever reason, no amount of adoration, fame and fortune will fix you. If anything it just makes it easier to harm yourself because you get caught up in all the glitz and glamor, however when you're all alone the demons will come calling and whisper all those lies that you believe about yourself.The devil didn't win because when she passed away she was in Christ.

I'll never forget being her friend on Facebook. She actually interacted with her "friends". I was in college at the time and was bored in a clinical. I posted about it and she commented something like, "Once I found Jesus, I've never been bored." I was shocked! I couldn't believe she commented on MY post. I don't think I responded. I met her back in 2007, I believe in Fairfield, Ca, I believe she lived in Fremont, Ca . I worked at a Hilton Hotel at the time and I took her bags to her room, I was so star struck even though at that time she was a Christian but so was I so, it didn’t matter. I could go on, I have a bit of a small history with her but man, she was so beautiful even then, really positive attitude, was all about the things of the Lord and I got a chance to meet and fellowship with someone who I grew up with and knew through the movies ( the last dragon & action Jackson ) . It seemed like everyone had a crush on her growing up . I’m sure she is with the Lord now . Glory be to GOD . To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord . 2 Corinthians 5:8 I believe . ✊🏼❤️

She definitely meant real ghost and demons, and I'll assume she was still dealing with mental issues from drug abuse. Not to say those things can't happen, I find it hard to believe they were happening to her, but then again. You know what they say. Demons come after the weak. You don't have to be hardcore religious or religious at'll. You just need love for self.

If I'm not mistaken "Where Are They Now?" was the name of the show. I saw that episode with Vanity and she was truly transformed. She was done with Vanity and gave her life to Christ. God bless her soul.🙏

Vanity was 1 of my 1st crush as a little boy in the 80s, along with Sade, Cindy Crawford. I still think she has the most beautiful face I've ever seen. I didn't know she carried so much pain to the extent she expressed in this documentary. I would love to see a movie of her life. I can see Zendaya and maybe Halle Berry portray Vanity in a movie. Primce and vanity were soulmates. He transitioned a little time after she did. Dennise died February 15, 2016 at the age of 57 , prince died april 21st 2016 at the age of 57. Two months apart.

I met her years ago. She had complimented me...I was like "Are u kidding me, I wanted to be u" I actually said that to her. I just thought she was (still is) the most beautiful woman in the world. She's beautiful inside and out. She was so nice to me. She was signing autograph pics in the mall and I didn't have any money to pay for it, so she gave it to me for free. So sweet. She was with that football player at the time living in the Bay Area. I never forget meeting her. She had given me a business card and invited me to her church she had attended in San Jose. CA. I still have the autograph pic! I will treasure it always ❤

I met Denise and she was such a JOY. She shouldve changed her name to Denise JOY matthews. I was so sad when she passed but she loved jesus so much she was ready to go when it was time to go. Get right with the lord, it will bring you joy.

One of the most physically beautiful women I've ever seen, honestly. It's almost like she was meant to be tested the ways she was because of it in the excesses of the 80s. I'm sorry for her suffering, but very happy she found God.
