  • Hello artsy friends - if you want to go in detail, there is a written tutorial on lanagoesart.com ;)
    This tutorial shows how to paint with gouache and watercolor on wood, prepare the slices and seal the finished pieces, so they're nice and shiny and... waterproof! The spray fixative and watercolor varnish actually work on paper too to seal and protect your paintings!
    On sunandcolors.com you can visit a watercolour library with swatches, informations about the pigments and properties of the paints as well as the results of a lightfastness test. This grew into a community project and I'm very happy to share my findings with fellow artists.

    Oh very shiny and shimmer. I love all your tiny wooden creations and it was nice seeing you seal them.

      Hi! Thanks :) Sealing them is such an important part for me, just then I feel like they're ready to go to other people's homes, because they can be just treated as ornaments, dusted etc. Even wiped with a damp cloth - without sealing the painting would not survive it. ;)
      Have a great day!

    This was really informative video! This is really good to know, when I want to seal my woodburning pieces that have some watercolor added.

    How long to wait before varnish? M trying acrylic varnish,may be after 2 days, while doing so... black color smudging

      Oh wow, that is odd. Was your paint completely dry before you started varnishing? It helps to not let the varnish sit on the paint a long time (not pour it on and then distribute it). As is can "rewet" the paint due to the solvents included in the varnish. A thin layer swiftly applied with a brush and then not touched until completely dry should work.
      In my example it's gouache used to be varnished, which rewets quicker than acrylics should and is first sealed with a spray fixative or watercolor varnish. This step is not necessary for acrylics though.
      Maybe test a little piece with your black paint and whether it works or maybe it's a combo that doesn't work together?
      Have a great day!

    Can you use the watercolor varnish on acrylic paint?

    • @LanaGoesArt
      @LanaGoesArt  9 месяцев назад

      Hi! Probably, but acrylic varnish is cheaper and will give you a matte finish too if you choose the matte version. The problem with acrylic varnish is that it will dissolve watercolors and smudge them. While on acrylic paint you can use acrylic varnish with no problem.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi Lana, I have recently varnished with liquitex varnish and it was a disaster…the painting smushed all over the place….I guess that the varnish you have used is better because I see it doesn’t smudge…

    • @LanaGoesArt
      @LanaGoesArt  Год назад +1

      Hi! Oh no, I'm sorry your painting got ruined. I use spay fixative or watercolor varnish before I apply the Liquitex varnish. Those layers help to protect the art otherwise it would smudge too. Hope your next ines will work out better 🫂❤️

      @@LanaGoesArt thank you Lana! I was a bit reticent to use the spray because of the smell 🤗 but I will be careful next time. Have you also used bees wax medium? I heard this can also be used

      @@CristinaR03 Hi, yeah, the spray as well as the watercolor varnish both smell a lot. :S Wax medium does work too! I use it mostly on paper, but don't see why it shouldn't work on wood as well. :)
