    The best part about Jinjer is not only are they extremely talented, but, they are extremely nice and very humble offstage. I met them recently in Wisconsin and they are absolutely amazing people.. Tatiana is super nice.

    I never see the growl as a "monster" or an "internalization of good versus evil". I see the growl as pure power. In fact, when she (or any other singer) goes from that melodic, more main stream singing style to the fry vocals I see that as a true representation of her inner strength and Tatiana has strength in spades. Maybe that's just me. Great post, as always. Cheers.

    The first time I heard Jinjer I thought there were 2 singers. They were both excellent. Also, the musicianship was really technical and awesome. When I found out there was only 1 singer, I was blown away. Such a great band.

    Hi guys, loved the jinjer reaction!
    What Tatiana (that's her name) does for singing & 'screamo' is what Jimi Hendrix did for guitar. I mean Beck, Page and Clapton were trying different technics & sound on guitar. All of a sudden Hendrix appears & does stuff that was absolutely amazing. That's what Tatiana brings to the Genre. But the band as a whole is truely amazing. I'd give thier older stuff (2014-2015) a listen. I'm your age & background ... It's more relatable to me & maybe for you too.

    The growls for me offer a desperate plea for what the vocals are communicating. Which is why this genre is so great in my opinion, you can hear and feel the theme these artists are portraying that no other genre offers in its intensity. But to each there own, and once again great content kel-rich.

  • @Lolquake
    @Lolquake 5 лет назад +1

    Kel is right, that is not a scream, she is not forcing out more air when she does that than she does when she is singing, and she's not using her vocal chords to make that noise, that noise is made by passing air through the throat and causing the vocal folds to vibrate, not the larynx, and it also resinates in the sinus cavities. The sound comes more from the diaphragm than the lungs. She does it correctly, which is why she doesn't hurt herself, and why she can sing right after doing it, because she's not out of breath.

  • @chaoticoldbore

    You can see why I think Jinjer is one of the best bands going around at the moment. Four Musicians at the top of their game producing awesome music. Can't wait till they come to Australia, I would love to see them live. It's funny they actually recorded the Pieces video to show off the new drummers skills (as the old recording was rather flat drumwise) but most review/reaction focus is on Tatiana.

    I don't think there's anything better then a female voice soaring over the raw power of the band. I like that the music has a soft side to complement the hard side of the music. You add the odd time signature changes and you a formula that will get my attention. Great song, great band, great voice.

    If you like the contrast between "good and evil", Cloud Factory is a good Jinjer song to listen to -especially with the music video. I also think you would enjoy "Thank You, Pain" by "The Agonist" The Agonist is another female-fronted metal band where the singer, Alissa, does both clean and harsh vocals. That song in particular is really cool because the song (with the video) is kind of like a role playing game where she acts out different parts and uses a different voice for every character. In that song she uses several different styles of growls; she blends false-chord growls and fry screams really well. Honestly it's a good song to help you to train your ear to hear different kinds of growls. I also think the song will be more meaningful if you look at the lyrics beforehand

    All great art is thought provoking. It offers us a different perspective. That's especially true if it's something that's hard for us to listen to or look at even if we at first find it confusing or distasteful. That doesn't necessarily mean it's something we would prefer to listen to all the time but it does mean it's changed our outlook and made us grow. That's what great art does. It challenges us. It makes us think and it changes us.
    I was converted to growling by her. The way she uses it strategically to make her point and the beautiful sweetness in between. It takes you on a journey. I had to hear it from a woman backed by a great band to get it

    Regarding Kel’s explanation of her musical background, when it comes to metal, you don’t necessarily have to watch the music videos to understand the song. Metal is not pop or rap, where the music videos are an absolute necessity. Most of the time the bands are sort of forced to put out a music video from the record labels so it’s a common thing to notice a music video for metal does not relate to the theme or lyrics of the song itself. I think the only time you should pay attention to the music video is if it’s an extreme metal or a “shock rock” band, ie slipknot, Marilyn manson, etc. So if you want to listen to the music with your eyes closed, go right ahead.

    I Speak Astronomy is cool song but I kind of feel some of the clean vocals (especially in the first half) sound a little "poppy" and over-processed in the album version. I actually prefer the vocals in the live version filmed at the Summer Breeze fest. If you have a chance in the future it's well worth revisiting and watching to see how they perform the song live - also Tatiana has a great stage presence in that video!
