Hello, I was wondering how the salary works through Altia? for example, does the salary cap out after several years? So, with Epik in Korea you hit a glass-ceiling in terms of salary. There's no room for growth, your salary just stays the same after I think 2 or 3 years. So even if you've worked for 5 years you would be stuck with under 3k monthly. You do get a one-time bonus per year upon renewal and completion of your contract. So, I was wondering if this is the same case with Altia Central? Is there a maximum a foreign teacher can make?
Hello! So ALTIA does not offer any raises at all 😅 Your yearly bonus is the only thing that increases but even then I'm not sure about how much or if it caps at a certain amount. The only way to make more money is to start working in the HR department but even then it's still under 3k monthly.
Hi! Appreciate this is a super late comment but I have a quick question about what happens after the second interview if you don’t mind! I just finished my second interview and although I think it went super well, I don’t actually understand what happens next? Does the company email you to say you’re unsuccessful/successful and they’re looking for a placement, or do they just not email until they find an actual placement? Your video was super helpful, so thank you!
Hey! I'm glad if my video was helpful thanks for watching! :) Also to answer your question, I personally emailed them twice after the second interview because they took so long to get back to me 😅 They told me I had a position with them and not to worry and they would send me more details later. But really it took them quite a while I'm guessing because they are under staffed, so just reach out to them if you don't hear back! 👍🏻
@@vaninjapan To follow up - I've been given an email telling me I'm on the approval list and they'll start looking for me! Just hoping this means I'm assured a job with them rather than it being a huge maybe...I've been a JET alternate before and it kind of stings to wait around unsure if you even will get a job in the end!!
Hi Savannah, thank you so much for this video! Weird question : did you send a thank you email to the Japanese interviewer? I only know basic Japanese so I’m a little worried about sending an email in Japanese.
Hello! :) Thank you I'm glad if the video was helpful! I personally did not send a thank you email! Within ALTIA, other than the one Japanese interview, everything for us ALTs is conducted in English so you don't have to worry about sending emails in Japanese! :)
Of course! 😆 Glad if I can be! Ohhhh cool! I'm from a small town called Springtown (an hour west of Dallas) There are actually a lot of Texans here in Japan and it's a popular state most Japanese people know for some reason 😂
@@vaninjapan Sugoi! That's so cool! Update, I have an interview with Graham, but he said he's concerned that my Japanese is limited and I haven't lived there before. Demo makenai :)
Hello savannah. I applied at Altia last week and I am done with demo video and reference check. I am worried about the next step which is the second interview and speaking in Japanese. My japanese is entry level. Will it affect my application?
Hello! A lot of things have soy sauce in them so it can be difficult when eating out but a lot of supermarkets will have small gluten free sections even in the countryside. Bread is harder to find though and usually only sold in specialty supermarkets (in bigger cities). But you can order off of Amazon. Some things I end up just buying on iHerb as well.
@@vaninjapan thank you for taking the time! That is good to know that there are gluten free sections and it is possible to order gluten free online! It makes me feel much better about the moving to Japan and possibly not being in a city
Looking at this video while living in Korea. XD I am a public Elementary teacher, and I currently have tattoos A LOT. My current school is aware of my tattoos, I just hide my tattoos with long-sleeved shirts and cardigans. Just wondering if you know any ALT teachers with tattoos? Did they tell ALT during an interview or was it just not talked about at all?
Hello! 👋🏻 I know ALTs with ALTIA that have arm tattoos too and they also just wear long sleeves! They will definitely ask you about your tattoos in the interview. But since you've been working in a school and already understand how it is I think you'll be fine! 👍🏻
Hey Savannah!! I have an interview with ALTIA in a few days, I’m a bit nervous abt out the Japanese interview!! I’ve studied Japanese for five years in school but i don’t know much business Japanese! were you asked any other questions or was the Japanese interview relatively quick ?
Hello Marti! I hope your interview goes well I'm sure it will! 😆 If you just use normal polite form (です、ーます、など ) you'll be fine! Don't worry about being perfect! They understand it's your second language! 👍🏻 I wasn't asked anything else other than what I said in the video (besides them asking me questions about my answers but you can't really prepare for those) Also the demo lesson is done afterwards and sent via email yes! :) Hope this helped!
hi! I am interested in applying to alita central but i have a small yorkshire terrier that i want to take with me do you think it would be possible to find an apt that is pet friendly ? my dog is orignially japanese, and ive traveled with him to and from the USA before so I know how long the process is.
Hello! Are you still interested in applying or have you already? I'm not sure if ALTIA would help you find an apartment that was pet friendly since the ones they set you up with (Leopalace) aren't. It can be difficult but it's definitely doable to find a pet friendly one tho! My friend just moved here with her dog 🐕!
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately this can definitely be an experience for ALTs as a lot of kids don't have exposure to people who aren't Japanese especially in the countryside. It's up to you whether you can make it into a learning experience for the kids because a lot of the time they aren't being malicious they're just ignorant. On the other hand, if you are having serious problems with certain schools, whether it's the kids OR the teachers, you can request a change or transfer.
So how long do they take to get back to you for scheduling a demon lesson/second interview after you finish the first interview? Did they just tell you at the end of the first interview?
Ahhh I honestly do not remember the exact timing. I do know they emailed me to set up the second interview and the demo lesson so they definitely did not tell me during/at the end of the first interview.
If my memory is correct, it's a letter of intent and why you want to work the job correct? If so, then I think it's a little too personal to give concrete advice. Just be honest and keep it on topic/job specific!
The pixel 6 is quite buggy. Even after numerous updates. Since you are in Japan and you do film a lot of video, have a look at the newly launched "Sony Xperia 1 iv" it's a camera oriented phone with special Sony software to professionally record audio and record video. You can also buy a second screen and a special grip to vlog and stuff. Yes it's expensive with the whole kit, but maybe have a look at it, even the base phone at it's super expensive price is one of the best out there. It also has a headphone jack, which can help you connect a mic directly or use a wireless mic set. Sorry for nerding out in tech. But i highly suggest have a look at that phone. Anyways, thanks for the video, I have been thinking about applying for alt. Via jet program, I am not a native English speaker, but I do speak almost native level English and have also given IELTS and scored 7.5/9. So was hoping to see if I can apply. I have zero knowledge in Japanese though, only anime and manga level Japanese for me. Your Japanese interviewer was so happy he found a rugby fan 😂 Also a demo lesson which they tell you to do would be really nice too. And I am sorry again for writing such a long comment. I feel like a spammer. I wanted to ask some other questions too, but I don't use insta or Facebook.
Ahhhhhh I JUST bought this phone in January so I'll probably have it awhile 🥲 but I do appreciate all the tech advice!! 🙏🏻 If you're teaching in elementary I think it should/might be okay 🤔 your English sounds pretty good to me! Lol and it's all very simple grammar and what not. I hope if you do apply to JET or ALTIA that it goes well! 👍🏻 I might make one 🤔 but I can also link you to the video I watched that was super helpful too if you want. I will not lie I legit thought this was a spam comment for a hot second 😂 but I'm down to read long comments so no worries yo! Lol You can ask me all your questions here!
@@vaninjapan aye thanks! I am worried about my japanese. Idk anything. I only know "Sumimasen Boka Gaijin desh" which i learnt form the james may series. 🥲 But ya i will try, does altia.have any particular timeline i have to apply ? Because JET has time of september to october to apply for, there initial clearence and then an interview.
@@mokisan I would definitely recommend learning the basic if not just a self intro and how to write your name in katakana for the interview. But again like I said there are ALTs here that were in the same boat as you so it's not necessarily a deal breaker. Also schools start in April here in Japan so I do recommend applying in October If you want to start at the beginning of the school year 2023. However, there are placements that need filled now. You just have to check the website to see what's available when.
A motorcycle license is separate/different than a drivers license so I'm not sure if ALTIA would help you with the process or not. They wouldn't offer you a motorcycle either of course. You would have to purchase on your own. Also you will be expected to drive the car to your schools from the first day with an international drivers license before you officially get a Japanese one. I'm not sure if they offer that for motorcycle licenses or not. 😅
Hello Jonathan, good question! So currently in Japan we still wear masks in school everyday so you most likely would not have to shave your bread. (My friend doesn't shave his) Buuut once we go back (if we ever do..) to no mask life then it might be a different story I'm not 100% sure. It might depend on your individual schools. I, for example, wear all 7 of my ear piercings and get my nails done and my schools don't care so 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for the video! I am currently scheduling my interview and am totally nervous haha. One question - how did you go about making friends when you got to Japan? When I studied abroad I had a really difficult time making friends (which is unusual for me - I'm a fairly outgoing person) and found the isolation a major downside of being in a foreign country. So if you have any tips please let me know! Thanks again :)
Hello I hope your interview goes well I'm sure it will! 😁👍🏻 So I personally live in Okayama. There's an Okayama Prefecture Facebook page where you can link with people but also I became friends with people during training, especially the ones that went to my same town. ALTIA has Facebook and LINE groups too. My town also had an international society so I was able to make friends that way as well. I was pretty lucky though because one of the girls who had lived here for 4 years added me to her friend group and that's where I made most of my friends. If you live in a more rural prefecture you can always make friends by going to local bars and such too, both Japanese and foreign. But in my experience the foreign community in rural places isn't that big so it's easier to make friends. Sorry I'm not sure how helpful this was 😅
@@vaninjapan Oh one more question if you have a minute! Were the English and Japanese interviews conducted at the same time, or do they do the English first then do a separate Japanese interview at a later date?
Whoops so sorry I didn't see this until now! Not sure if you still need the info but my English interview was in person and then my Japanese interview was a week or so? maybe? afterwards via Skype!
It's definitely possible but you have to be extra careful with checking ingredients and eating out is way easier in the big cities because there are more vegan friendly places〜
@@amandabrown9684 why you want to go to Japan what your experience with kids is can you speak Japanese and write your name in katakana do you already have your degree/when do you graduate what is your degree why Japan and not another country like Korea since Kpop and Kdramas are so popular now how long have you studied Japanese can you drive/are you willing to drive/will you get your Japanese license? can you get to the training location alone? a little roleplaying where he pretends to be a student and you are the teacher and youre just having a little conversation have you ever been to Japan or another country? have you ever studied abroad? what did you like about being in a new country if yes/ why not if no have you ever taken the JLPT/what level did you pass (take the practice test on the official website, so you at least have that for reference, it doesn't affect if you get in, but it does show taking initiative) basic stuff, BUT he is REALLY informative so take notes and if you dont get this job you will 100% get into another company with those notes, their process is harder than all the other companies i applied for at the same time (i applied to 10 companies and got offers from 6, this company had the best contract) (he basically called me lazy because i studied Japanese for 10years and never took the real JLPT -its too expensive but he didn't ask about that- even tho i always score high on the practice tests)

@@vaninjapan Arigato gozaimasu! You’ve been so helpful 😊 P.S. I’m also from Texas (Dallas)
Thank you for the video. I heard you say you are unable to eat wheat. How difficult is it to find wheat / gluten free options?
Also, does the demo lesson take place during the interview or do you send it after ?
Hello Marti! I hope your interview goes well I'm sure it will! 😆 If you just use normal polite form (です、ーます、など ) you'll be fine! Don't worry about being perfect! They understand it's your second language! 👍🏻 I wasn't asked anything else other than what I said in the video (besides them asking me questions about my answers but you can't really prepare for those)
Also the demo lesson is done afterwards and sent via email yes!
@@vaninjapan oh I see! Is ur friend also doing Altia too? Also are you still with Altia? How is it?:-)
would u like to share some Japanese questions? It might help me on my second interview. I would appreciate.
Hey i enjoyed your video i was curious because ive heard of students bullying the international teachers. Have you heard of this or experienced this ?
Any thoughts on the essay that you submit for overseas applications?
Your Japanese interviewer was so happy he found a rugby fan 😂
Also a demo lesson which they tell you to do would be really nice too.
If you're teaching in elementary I think it should/might be okay 🤔 your English sounds pretty good to me! Lol and it's all very simple grammar and what not. I hope if you do apply to JET or ALTIA that it goes well! 👍🏻
I might make one 🤔 but I can also link you to the video I watched that was super helpful too if you want.
But ya i will try, does altia.have any particular timeline i have to apply ? Because JET has time of september to october to apply for, there initial clearence and then an interview.
@@mokisan I would definitely recommend learning the basic if not just a self intro and how to write your name in katakana for the interview. But again like I said there are ALTs here that were in the same boat as you so it's not necessarily a deal breaker.
Also schools start in April here in Japan so I do recommend applying in October If you want to start at the beginning of the school year 2023. However, there are placements that need filled now. You just have to check the website to see what's available when.
@@vaninjapan thanks. Will do and see how it pans out.
Hello! I was wondering if I could ask you some questions outside of here. Is there a place I could reach out to you?
Does anyone have anything to say about Heart Corporation?
Does the requirement have to be driving a car? Is it possible to drive a motorcycle?
A motorcycle license is separate/different than a drivers license so I'm not sure if ALTIA would help you with the process or not. They wouldn't offer you a motorcycle either of course. You would have to purchase on your own. Also you will be expected to drive the car to your schools from the first day with an international drivers license before you officially get a Japanese one. I'm not sure if they offer that for motorcycle licenses or not. 😅
Would I have to shave my beard off even if it isn't messy looking?
Hello Jonathan, good question! So currently in Japan we still wear masks in school everyday so you most likely would not have to shave your bread. (My friend doesn't shave his)
Buuut once we go back (if we ever do..) to no mask life then it might be a different story I'm not 100% sure. It might depend on your individual schools. I, for example, wear all 7 of my ear piercings and get my nails done and my schools don't care so 🤷🏼♀️
@@vaninjapan Awesome, thanks for the answer :)
May I ask about the expenses of applying ALT?
I don't believe the actual application cost any money. At least not for ALTIA.
初めまして!こんにちは😄

OMG YES... thanks for mentioning that you're vegan. I was worried about that ^^;
It's definitely possible but you have to be extra careful with checking ingredients and eating out is way easier in the big cities because there are more vegan friendly places〜
please l want u help me get job in japan.Thank you
給料は満足できる金額貰えてますか?

I have my Interview with him tomorrow pls what did he ask. ? I’m so nervous

why you want to go to Japan
what your experience with kids is
can you speak Japanese and write your name in katakana
do you already have your degree/when do you graduate
what is your degree
why Japan and not another country like Korea since Kpop and Kdramas are so popular now
how long have you studied Japanese
can you drive/are you willing to drive/will you get your Japanese license?
can you get to the training location alone?
a little roleplaying where he pretends to be a student and you are the teacher and youre just having a little conversation
have you ever been to Japan or another country? have you ever studied abroad? what did you like about being in a new country if yes/ why not if no
have you ever taken the JLPT/what level did you pass
(take the practice test on the official website, so you at least have that for reference, it doesn't affect if you get in, but it does show taking initiative)
basic stuff, BUT he is REALLY informative so take notes and if you dont get this job you will 100% get into another company with those notes, their process is harder than all the other companies i applied for at the same time (i applied to 10 companies and got offers from 6, this company had the best contract)
(he basically called me lazy because i studied Japanese for 10years and never took the real JLPT -its too expensive but he didn't ask about that- even tho i always score high on the practice tests)
Thank you I did the interview before I saw this haha I have to do a demo lesson which I just did and will submit tonight. I can we write my name in katakana and I am able to introduce myself in Japanese so I hope I get the job.out of all the alt I think Altia is kinda better so I really want this . I do have borderlink and two others lined up for interviews in May
@@amandabrown9684
good luck
you can do it
study a little for the Japanese test, they ask you basic questions like your hobbies and if you like sports and the hardest one for me was "what message would you like to give your students"
What other companies did you apply to, please? @@firellily
So if I know ZERO Japanese I don’t have a chance 👀
You'd have to learn how to write your name in Katakana and a basic introduction (but like I said they give you a legit script you could memorize) 👍🏻
Thank you so much!
