Have seen Augusta street running videos, but nothing that really explained and showed an overview of railroading for the entire area. Also, the rain actually created an interesting ambience in some of the shots. Nice work! Go reward yourself with some Sonny's...
Awesome video Danny! I live on the NS in Waynesboro, GA south of Augusta and I see the same NS trains that come by Augusta. But I still want to come up and railfan there someday.
Great video as always Danny. Reminds me of the old photos I have seen of our Terminal Railroad of St. Louis trains running right down the middle of Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard on the riverfront in front of the Arch. Days that are long gone. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video as always; great older footage too! CSX installed the radio controlled switches in Thomasville yard on the Bowline as well. Can't wait for the next video.
Nice videos. I am over there a lot but don't get time to railfan. Enjoyed the shots of the trains crossing the rivers. Thanks for sharing. Walt in Marietta,GA
Dan I LOVE your videos! They capture excellent action and are well narrated. One "fly in the ointment": video quality is only 480p. Can you elevate that to 720p or even 1080p? Thanks!
Yeah.... these were shot in 2001 - 2008. There WAS no 720p or 1080p. What you're seeing is RUclips's terrible video codec back then. Sadly, I don't have the originals of those old videos to re-master and re-upload them.
Great video Danny. Have you been up to Ocala-Anthony-Sparr lately? CSX has been doing tons of work, the new Anthony siding is almost done, they've got new signals up on both ends, new signals up at Sparr, and track panels and crossovers staged in Ocala. They have cut in a new NE Ocala switch already, very close to the NE 36th Ave crossing. Word is they want to get Anthony open before they close Singletary and Ocala sidings to connect them.
Great Video Danny! Not too much has changed in most of the areas you showed in the video. The depot at the 11th Street Junction was burned down and is no longer there.
Thanks Richard. I would love to ride down that street on any excursion train. I wish NS would bring the NKP765 down there or maybe that one from the Tennessee Museum. DH
Danny, You missed the museum. There’s a 4-6-2 Pacific steam engine in there. It’s in the building on the East corner of Reynolds and 6th. Oh, and they have a Pullman passenger car in there as well. Nice video!! Come back to our town soon!!
Enjoyed your video. Especially @ 9:10, the ACL steel girder bridge. That bridge was built many, many moons ago. I do like the old EMD power at start of video, also.
have you ever been to Columbia,SC? Devine Jct, in Columbia is awesome for train watching in the morning. At this one place, you can see NS and CSX and at times-at the same time. We also have the ramp at DIxiana and at Harsco rail have the only slide transfer table in the state. Also your NS trains headed to Columbia will terminate in the NS Andrews Yard here.
Nice video! I railfan around Columbia NS 191 I would kill to see some power like that nowdays. I recently had bought a DVd of yours from Whistlin' Dixie. Very nice, I've watched it god only knows how many times.
Albany GA has street running on the line between Albany and Hilton GA . It was NS line and now it's GWI and it's the Hilton and Albany line. The HAL has three SD40-2S running on it.
Danny loved your Augusta street video, many years ago I rode a Southern steam excursion that departed from 6th street forgot the engine # but think it was the 4501
Excellent as usual, Danny. I'm going to be stationed in Augusta in a few months. Let me know if you'll be in town. I would love to know where all these spots are.
There's 2 NS yards in Augusta by the way, Nixon Yard as you mentioned is by the Airport and then there's the main yard by Laney Walker BLVD adjacent to the CSX yard.
Years before the remote controlled switches were installed, I would see NS employees come and line the switches for their Trains. Never saw CSX do this. I made my Augusta Video from 1999-2003. Also, the old ACL trestle is just east of CSX's Augusta Yard in an area known as East Boundary. Jonh is correct!!! Nixon Yard and NS's Augusta Yard are 2 different Yards. The long gone G&F also shared the street trackage and SR Trestle to reach their line to Greenwood, SC. 6th Street scarey???? LOL
I use to catch the Q126 when it came thru on the CSX Chattanooga Sub, must go a good ways to the next port, sadly I think the symbol has been changed to Q026 or one of those oddballs.
And now Union Pacific SD9043MAC 8148 is owned by Norfolk Southern as SD70ACu 7310. Funny how it was seen in 2001 leading an NS train and now is owned by NS.
wow you did a great job on NS 191 both the Conrails & high hoods are becoming extinct due to repaints & rebuilds but if you want to see a good Conrail see NS SD50 5415 the last one in the "Canopener" paint, have you ever ventured out into Alabama? Montgomery has CSX & the bay line & Birmingham has UP, BNSF, CSX, NS, ATN, & Amtrak's Cresent you can go to the Sloss furnace to see a Frisco Northern, Amtrak, NS, BNSF, & ATN at the Amtrak depot AMTK & CSX lastly Irondale, NS & AMTK.
That sounds fantastic! When does the weather get warm enough to go there? Is that location anywhere near Kicking Horse Pass? I've always wanted to go there too.
@distantsignal Just in the way that there is a HUGE train in the middle of the road. I am sure its safe, but humans are idiots. Great video. I watch them all.
90MACs were terrible engines though... Even their 70MAC counterparts were just awful. They took all day to load up, they wouldn't cooperate with a GE in the set, especially if the GE was in lead. I dont know the difference between a MAC and an ACE, but they seemed to iron out the major operating issues with the 70ACEs. Now if they'd just clean the toilets occasionally they would have been great engines!
I’ve only ever seen NS go down the street. CSX veers off to the west and parallels Walton Way before the segment of track that goes down 6th St. But the track is all connected and leads into both the NS yard and CSX yard there on the southeast side of town. Many a morning on the way to work I found Lany Walker Blvd blocked by a train sitting across the street at the entrance to the CSX yard.
A lot of those GE's in that era were delivered in primer and the railroads later painted them in their own shops or sent them back to GE for company colors. I don't know why this happened.
+Jerry Hubbard Run-through power. On some trains railroads just send their power on through. When an engine crosses onto foreign rails, the hours are calulated from that point and the host railroad has to pay it back, either in hours with it's own engine or in cash.
On certain trains, the originating railroad will allow its power to be run-through to the connecting railroad. Railroads trade power hours like this. If NS uses these engines for 30 hours, then they owe UP 30 of power time and will run through their engines on the UP for payback.
Have seen Augusta street running videos, but nothing that really explained and showed an overview of railroading for the entire area. Also, the rain actually created an interesting ambience in some of the shots. Nice work! Go reward yourself with some Sonny's...
Woooo hoooooo found one I haven't watched and the wife is asleep. Life doesn't get any better. Thank you sir for all you do. Cheers stay safe.
Thanks for the tour.
Boy, you're not kidding! I'm glad I shot that stuff when I did.
Glad you enjoyed the DVD.
Thanks,
DH
I have tracks right next to my house literally, whenever one comes through I can't help but go out and stare, massive powerful engineering marvels
Other than that trip to Ohio, I never thought you ventured very far north. This video is a real treat.
August looks amazing.
One of the more striking things about this video are the livery on the wagons themselves. A whole bunch of privately owned cars.
Awesome video Danny! I live on the NS in Waynesboro, GA south of Augusta and I see the same NS trains that come by Augusta. But I still want to come up and railfan there someday.
Video was very enjoyfully. This Program is good by different information.
Hey Danny new to your channel. Watching you for a couple weeks. Thanks for doing Augusta GA. I live there. Thanks dude. Be safe
Excellent video, Danny. Really like that street running.
Great video as always Danny. Reminds me of the old photos I have seen of our Terminal Railroad of St. Louis trains running right down the middle of Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard on the riverfront in front of the Arch. Days that are long gone. Thanks for the video.
Great video, rail history and commentary as usual. I anticipate your videos all the time. Thank you and keep them coming !
Superb as always Danny.
Love the street running.
Excellent video as always; great older footage too! CSX installed the radio controlled switches in Thomasville yard on the Bowline as well. Can't wait for the next video.
Fantastic vide, Danny! Really enjoyed it!
absolutely love the narration! top notch
Well Danny your video of Augusta makes me to go visit my family there and also see some street running trains lol
Nice videos. I am over there a lot but don't get time to railfan. Enjoyed the shots of the trains crossing the rivers. Thanks for sharing.

Great footage, Danny. Loved the video.

Another awesome video Danny!

Nice video!! Come back to our town soon!!
Ah, the Lima built Georgia 302. She is certainly a beautiful engine, and a rarity since there's few remaining Georgia steam engines left.
Enjoyed your video. Especially @ 9:10, the ACL steel girder bridge. That bridge was built many, many moons ago.
I do like the old EMD power at start of video, also.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Just enough narration to let us know what's going on. :)
great video. Appreciate your professional quality editing and narration.

Excellent as usual, Danny. I'm going to be stationed in Augusta in a few months. Let me know if you'll be in town. I would love to know where all these spots are.
Have you been to the north side of Augusta ga where amtrak trains run through and a Norfolk southern railroad yard
Amtrak in Augusta?
@@distantsignalI meant Atlanta Georgia
Great Job!
Yes, every day. I think every train in or out of the Augusta terminal area must use the 6th street track, the A&S for Augusta & Summerville.
DH
how come there are no videos of csx using the 6th street trackage?
There's 2 NS yards in Augusta by the way, Nixon Yard as you mentioned is by the Airport and then there's the main yard by Laney Walker BLVD adjacent to the CSX yard.
@WildwoodSubRailfan Wow! Sounds like they're really coming along up there.
I hope to go railfanning in that territory in two weeks.
Thanks!
DH
Railfanning as I remember it, lots of ex Conrails running with old logo NS engines!
its in the interior of B.C. and its warm from April to October. i once saw 5 ic's in one day
@cflRailfan YES, I'll be there at TUS and railfanning around the area on Saturday.
you should come to sandersville and railfan the sandersville railroad. its worth catching.
You should head up to Minnesota.Really good railfanning
Nice sd40 on csx in stealth don't see that anymore
Years before the remote controlled switches were installed, I would see NS employees come and line the switches for their Trains. Never saw CSX do this. I made my Augusta Video from 1999-2003. That Is The NS R-Line I Live On The North End Of It.
me too
I have found one of the original Erie railroad screw spike that was made for Erie railroad in 1949
I would love to model street running in my layout
Great video as always Danny. Any plans to railfan this Saturday when the Amtrak 40th Anniversary train comes to Tampa?
LOL at 2:45 look at the smiley face on the tank car :)
Trainguy0217 magic
@rsideballa75 Thank you for that reply. I figured there might still have been some "tall masted ships" on that river when the bridge was built. :^)
Ahhhhh, I like that CONRAIL horn
great video, would you happen to know how often trains run through Augusta every day?
I do like those train vids
Your voice sounds professional. Do you also do radio and television broadcasting?
+Jaw Tooth he actually does DVD narration. no radio or television.
*****
Cool!
Jaw Tooth he does news also
Jaw Tooth he works for fox
I use to catch the Q126 when it came thru on the CSX Chattanooga Sub, must go a good ways to the next port, sadly I think the symbol has been changed to Q026 or one of those oddballs.
sorry for the wait but the weather gets warm enough from mid June to late August average temp is 21 degrees Celsius
@adamitshelanu Yes it is, but it is no longer operable. Norfolk Southern welded it in place.
I don't see any Kaolin trains anymore in Augusta.
@pbartolomeo05 In what way? Trains go down it at 10MPH.
You should come to the csx Monroe sub
And now Union Pacific SD9043MAC 8148 is owned by Norfolk Southern as SD70ACu 7310. Funny how it was seen in 2001 leading an NS train and now is owned by NS.
cool streetrunning
That 6th Street just looks dangerous.
Where would you be the best place for train watching
Northfolk Southern Quality Rail train 191 dash 8-40 AC CW power
when a locomotive passes you what is that clicking sound from the locomotive, it sounds like electric arcing
I think what you're hearing is the air brake system purge valve.
wow you did a great job on NS 191 both the Conrails & high hoods are becoming extinct due to repaints & rebuilds but if you want to see a good Conrail see NS SD50 5415 the last one in the "Canopener" paint, have you ever ventured out into Alabama? Looks like there used to be a draw span on that truss bridge.
Yes, that was the Savannah River. Used to be a major artery for cotton barges.
Do intermodal trains run down 6th street?
If that canal is no longer in service why were they scooping it out? Looks like they'd be more for filling it in.
It’s a historical landmark. They were restoring it, and it’s very much open for kayaking nowadays and has bike and jogging trails alongside.
That sounds fantastic! When does the weather get warm enough to go there?
Is that location anywhere near Kicking Horse Pass? I've always wanted to go there too.
@distantsignal Just in the way that there is a HUGE train in the middle of the road.

My name is kaylan, almost named after a mineral :)
does csx use the street running section of augusta?
I’ve only ever seen NS go down the street. 191is always linwood-augusta manifest
4:12 Why does that NS dash 9 not have any clothes on?
A lot of those GE's in that era were delivered in primer and the railroads later painted them in their own shops or sent them back to GE for company colors. I don't know why this happened.
That explains alot
I'm surprised. There isn't any graffiti on these cars.
oh just wondering
Why would a Union Pacific engine be on a NS line?
+Jerry Hubbard Run-through power. On some trains railroads just send their power on through. When an engine crosses onto foreign rails, the hours are calulated from that point and the host railroad has to pay it back, either in hours with it's own engine or in cash.
that sounds like a lot to keep up with. Fuel, time. Would not want that job
