This is really interesting. Thank you a lot. Intelligent, sharply presented and very relevant. For those who are interested in more Nietzschean theology, you should check out the work of Thomas J. J. Altizer.

Is there a way to get John McDade to speak to Jordan B Peterson?

Unfortunately, I don't think Jordan Peterson has the necessary background knowledge for these kinds of conversations.

The Freudean idea that the death or lack of a father is somehow behind religious belief conflicts very clearly with the fact that many men become priests or enter into convents while their fathers are still alive. Indeed, this step is often taken against the wishes of their parents - sometimes expressed in tears, but as was the case with Saint Thomas Aquinas, his parents went so far as to take active steps against his joining the Dominicans. I'm pretty certain Aquinas' father was a very decent man other than that, he simply saw a more ambitious kind of future for his son.
This example does however clearly contradict Freud's theory.

Freud's idea goes further than individual biographies. In this context, we may be speaking about a cultural, imaginative motif, an archetypal symbol, or what have you. A theme. We may be speaking about it with regards to history, humanity, or culture at large.

Nietzsche's thought sounds so uninspiring to me.
