Detailed description on how to get the most out of you Flukes or Soft Jerkbaits. From fixing a bent fluke to catching fish on one. It's all in here. / 335467843221608
Man this was from 8years ago. A fluke is definitely a great bait for October. Thanks Gene for still be there for us, we appreciate tbe knowledge you share with us. God Bless and tight lines
Flukemaster, I have to thank you for your videos and your amazing tips on bass fishing! I've just recently gotten back into bass fishing and I had no idea where to start. Then I fell upon your videos! My first day out, I used a white pearl super fluke on a spinning reel and I caught a 5 pound smallmouth in the middle of the day. Biggest bass I've ever caught! Keep up the great videos!
Thanks man, Yep that's the Med Duckett. I love Med Fast action rods. They are perfect for casting most of the lures that I fish the most and they have enough backbone to set the hook. White is the color that seems to work the best on most clear water lakes. If there is a little stain I'll switch to a watermelon or some other dark color and dip it in JJ's chartreuse to mimic a bluegill.
I have to tell you, I fell in love with the fluke, my first bait for catching bass in the tourneys. I use to fish nothing but a fluke, but after I learned about a double fluke I'll never fish a single one again. A lot more needed to set up, but catches more fish. Plus I've doubled up plenty of times. Good video, Go Dawgs. Looks like you are fishing Lanier. For people looking for color. In clear water I use a white or smokin shad super fluke with a chartruese tail, I dye every fluke I put on. If the water is stained or slightly dirty, I've been using bubble gum and it never fails. I have some darker like black fluke that I use for night fishing in the summertime tournaments. I use a Gamakatsu skip gap hook 5/0 all the time never any less. I like the skip gap because for me it holds the bait on the hook better. Sometimes a bass wants to sling the bait all over the place and you lose it. The skip gap holds it in place better. It's all personal preference. I like to fish my flukes double up. Main line braid 30 lb to a 3-way swivel with 2 flourocarbon leaders. One leader a little longer than the other so that the flukes don't smash in to each other, rather they criss cross over top of each other. I'll try to post a video someday soon on how to set up a "Double fluke rig" Have fun fishing everyone
Hey Flukemaster I just wanted to say thank you for all your helpful instruction. The other day after watching you talk about the Carolina rig and summer fishing I hooked up a 2 pound smallmouth in my local lake and couldn't be more happy.. you are the man. Your biggest fan Travis in Seattle WA
I've watched you for years and never fished flukes. Watching this for the first time in 2021. Your beard and recording setup is superior now but the information is as good as ever.
I have never fished a fluke on a Carolina rig, ive always fished it weightless. Thanks for the help, all your vids are so useful. I always watch one and end up watching 15 more
Tried a fluke for the first time today off the docks, wasn't quite sure to swim it or jerk around. Had it weightless Texas rided had bunch of babies track it but nothing sizable to take it. Glad I watched this video now, appreciate it a lot. Usually I've only caught on drop shots and Texas trying to expand my arsenal. The lakes in Southern California pressured and low on water lol thanks again man!
I completely understand man. Someone can tell me how to do things 10 times and I still won’t get it until I see it done. That’s why I take the time to make videos that actually show haw it works.
Gave my serious first effort at fluke fishing yesterday and caught 2 decent sized ones. It was one of the most fun ways to fish that I’ve tried in a long time. The bite is insane. I’m going to start really concentrating on it going forward. Just trying to get better every day.
Great video. 60 y/o who just started using Zoom Super Flukes last week. Have landed several already including some 3's here in NJ. My fish like the Houdini color and, I've noticed they like when it sinks to the bottom and then is twitched a little. Fun!
I watched this video last night never have used Fluke I had some didn't know how to use them. This morning heading out watched again rigged them up like you said and worked it with few jerks let it rest a few then few jerks. Caught a lot of bass and surprise same Fluke all day didn't tear or anything lasted a lot better than my zoom worms. It's my new top shelf worked great thanks man well done.
Flukemaster, I know this is an older video but man I have to say all your vids are great and always instructional! Up until I just watched this I've always looked through the racks to find perfectly straight plastics. Sometimes when I don't find them, I just forego buying it.
Thanks Gene. Just want to reiterate how good your videos are. Its like a library of truly useful information minus the hype and salesman BS on some other channels. I really feel armed with knowledge I can use from watching your stuff. Keep it up!
I thought I was the only one who pre-straitened my crooked flukes. I usually do it by putting them in a ZipLock bag full of hot tap water and just letting them sit. I've also just set them out in the sun in that baggie full of water. They are set in a staggered manner head to tail so that their natural contours tend to iron out the crooked parts. You can set them on the dashboard of your truck as you're driving to the lake to fish. The windshield acts like a magnifying glass on the baggie as long as you're driving into the sun. Anything to warm up that water.
My goto line has been Izorline XXX for years. It has never failed me. I do use other brands for fluorocarbon and braid but when I just need a line that preforms I always go back to Izorline.
The grips are called Reel Grips. I've had them for several years. You should be able to find them on line. I use them because my hand are pretty big and I don't hold my handle very tight so they help me keep a grip when setting the hook and working certain baits. As for the Go Pro stuff. I have bought stuff here and there but mostly on Ebay.
Flukemaster hi, great video , very informative, I really like the tip to make flukes straight. What pound test do you use when fishing flukes wheedles in open water?
The lakes I fish are primarily very clear so I prefer pearl and white ice. But color always depends on the water clarity. I caught the biggest 5bass limit on a fluke (29lb) so the size of the fish you catch just depends on the size of the fish that grabs your lure. The line I use is either 10, 12, or 15 lb test depending on where I'm fishing.
I like the super fluke. it’s a solid choice for beginners. It a jack of all trades. My favorite way to fish it is on a heavy wire hook rigged weightless with a heavy hammer hook. Color wise I prefer the pearl white or baby bass but any color does great!
Thanks Brother. I see that you know my favorite goofball Bobby Uhrig. He is one of the good ones in the fishing industry. I always look forward to going out to eat with those guys at ICAST every year. He's a riot.
Dude you're the man!!! Thanks a lot. I have a couple different kind of flukes and I hook them similar to the way you do, but you taught me another way also. I'm a dedicated watcher.
This video helped a lot I’ve always been curious about rigging the fluke upside down or right side up. Switched over to using a fluke instead of a Texas rig with a 6” black worm, I love it.
I love using flukes. I fish with them all year round and get plenty of small mouth bass and even pike to hit this lure!! I also work it as top water too and works just fine.
A fluke or any soft plastic fished weightless will cause major line twist. You put a swivel on the line to prevent that. I use a large swivel to give it a little more weight so I can work the fluke faster and still keep it under water.
A swivel is needed to minimize line twist. A weightless fluke or worm will cause the line to twist up pretty bad over time. I also use it for added weight without hurting the action of the fluke.
Just a fluke and weightless trickworms. One, to prevent line twist and two, to give it enough weight to sink it a little in open water. When I fish them on top of thick grass I use a lighter weight swivel.
I just watched this vid an hour or so ago, never tried a fluke before even though I have some in the garage. I took Zoom Super Fluke in Baby Bass color and caught a bass on my third cast in a pond I have been skunked on in 5 previous attempts. A fluke might become my go to bait now.
If you want a good rod for all of those I'd get the Medium action rod. (model # DFMA70M-C) The MH will be a little to much rod for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and cranks. The Medium also has enough backbone for soft plastics up to about 3/8oz. It's my favorite all around rod because I prefer the lighter stuff most of the time. It's also great for traps and topwater walking baits like a Spook Jr. If you are used to MH rods it may take some getting used to but it will be worth it.
Thanks for the video, Flukemaster. I'm focusing on improving my soft bait techniques this year, and could use the tips. Watch out for those Spotted Bass! They have completely taken over the lake near my house in Western North Carolina.
There are plenty of choices in that price range. Bass Pro Shops Reels and Rods are excellent to learn on. You should be able to get a good setup for less than 250
Great video! I just started using zoom flukes and have had great success. I tried out the KVD perfect caffeine shad a couple of weeks ago and caught several fish including a nice 4 pounder. I like the KVD fluke a little better than the zoom fluke because of the way it falls like a senko.
Dadgum your so good man. I live bout 30 minutes south of Atlanta and I love the dawgs too. Can't wait for you to make another video. Please keep em comin haha. And thanks so much.
That my favorite rod. It's a Duckett Micro Magic 7ft Med Fast Action rod. Model number DFMM70M-C. I paired it with a 6,3:1 gear ration Revo STX but I also will fish it with a 7.1:1 reel.
A little while back I caught a nice 8# using a rip & drop method. Weightless super fluke on a heavy wire wide gap, 6lb mono spinning rig. Long hard sweeps for the rip, maybe 4-5', let it drop while gathering line. about the 5th gathering of line it felt like a snagged a stump, until the stump took off towards the back of the gut. Love flukes!
i ordered a 7ft 6in micro magic im hoping it will be here tommorow and i just but a quantum 6;3;1; flippin reel.... your videos are very helpful. keep up the good work
Powerbait used to make an amazing fluke, it was a baby bass with very realstic eyes. I haven't seen them around the last 2 years, but Zooms never done me wrong.
It all depends on the water clarity. If it's clear water go with something like white and as the water gets dingier move to darker colors. I don't fish it in muddy water.
LOL!!!. Ben. You see it like that because of the camera that I'm using. It's a GoPro camera and it has a wide angle lens. This causes everything on the outer edges to look bent.
That's cool man. The bass should be spawning for the next few weeks. Just look shallow and when you see a couple on bed toss a jig or a creature bait at them until they bite.
It could be a number of things but it's probably that you don't have the hook on there perfectly straight. I'm working on a video right now that will dive into some serious details about a fluke.
I personally love my Carrot Stix Wild MH 7-footer and Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier. People don't think Carrot Stix are durable, but I've had mine for 2 years without any issue. If you have any doubts, though, look into an Abu Garcia Veritas.
Your are welcome. Except I'm out of footage. It's time to get back out on the water and do some winter stuff. It's cold as heck outside and I hope I can figure something out to show you guys. Winter is not my strong suit.
Yeah, two fish and the fluke isn't good for anything but wacky rig, gets a bit more value out of them. I love Flukes but the Z Man Streakz is far more durable.
Bank fishing is hard in the winter no matter where you go. You will have a better chance if you find a small pond somewhere to fish. For the record. I don't live in NC I live in GA and travel to NC to guide for The Kingfisher Society. I don't get to fish Amy other lakes in NC.
Hey man, love your videos, been finding myself watching them more and more and more often.. I'm a avid catfisherman t hats recently been getting into bass fishing after accuse tally catching a 3lb bass and was amazed at the fight these little guys put up.. plus the cats bite has been worthless lately... anyway.. how to you fish flukes? Do you twitch them like other lures, or just reel them in normally slow, fast or what? I'm a total noob when it comes to bass.. I basically know how to drop shot thanks to you (which catches fish) but am Tryon to broaden my horizon lol.. and would like to know all the retrieval methods.. thanks in advanced man.. your fan in Huntington wv... Donnie moore P.s. I fish from the bank as I have no access to a boat (yet) tryin to get my buddy to sale me his lil 17ft John boat in payments which I think he is. Ima build a little deck on the front to stand on to fish from like a bass boat.. thanks again Mr fluke
I really enjoyed this video. I had no idea what a fluke was or how you got your name. Now I know lol. I've been looking at these baits will be going to pick me up some. Thanks.
Hey bud it is Saturday morning 7:00am going to lil private pond here is South Carolina going to try and get a lunker this morning with the Fluke. Might throw few trick worms. Walmart had a sale yesterday alot of the crankbaits and yum worms and more. Only for 1.50 spent a good 50 dollars. Hope this morning goes well ill let you know. Also i'm going to get back with you on how to use a crankbait in a pond. Havent had much luck i just don't think i am working it right.talk to you soon.
Man this was from 8years ago. A fluke is definitely a great bait for October. Thanks Gene for still be there for us, we appreciate tbe knowledge you share with us. God Bless and tight lines
I'm 44 and been fishing my entire life, I have forgotten a lot stiff and just need a refresher course some times. Great vid, thank you.

I love how casually and accurately he casted to that jumping fish.
Seriously. I’m like there busting right there. And he just casts dead center into it. Without even knowing I think. Lolol. Awesome.
@@kevincarr8434 his reels are just super dialed in. I have a hard time casting a fluke weightless.
You’ve got no idea how grateful commercial bait makers are for the straightening portion of this video! Thank you!
Thanks man, Yep that's the Med Duckett. I love Med Fast action rods. They are perfect for casting most of the lures that I fish the most and they have enough backbone to set the hook.

Glad I could help
This stuff right here is why your channel is the best on RUclips. I never watch a video without learning something. Your rock dude!
userkirby Thanks
I've watched you for years and never fished flukes. Watching this for the first time in 2021. Your beard and recording setup is superior now but the information is as good as ever.
Thanks Zach. When the conditions are right the fluke can be excellent.
I have watched Your shows many times; but I haven't ever seen one where You was using a Fluke; I can see why You got the nickname ! I'm impressed !
I have never fished a fluke on a Carolina rig, ive always fished it weightless. Thanks for the help, all your vids are so useful. I always watch one and end up watching 15 more

Finally.... Someone who actually shows you how to fish the fluke and how to rig it.... Only took me 10 videos of frustration to find this....
I completely understand man. Someone can tell me how to do things 10 times and I still won’t get it until I see it done. That’s why I take the time to make videos that actually show haw it works.
I've had 3 bags of flukes for a month now and have never known how to use them, your video was really helpful. Thanks
Just caught my first bass on a fluke. Wicked excited

This video oddly enough helped me gain more confidence with hard jerk baits thank you.
I love the fluke! it was the first soft bait that my grandpa taught me and like you said its my go to bait. i caught a nice 6 lb bass last week on it
Cool. Congratulations.
Flukemaster, I know this is an older video but man I have to say all your vids are great and always instructional! Up until I just watched this I've always looked through the racks to find perfectly straight plastics. Sometimes when I don't find them, I just forego buying it.
Rick del Prado Cool. Rick. I'm glad I could help.
actually the biggest bass I ever caught was on the zoom super fluke in watermelon red color and it was about 7 poundsnice vids keep them coming.
Thanks Gene. Just want to reiterate how good your videos are. Its like a library of truly useful information minus the hype and salesman BS on some other channels. I really feel armed with knowledge I can use from watching your stuff. Keep it up!

Im with you on the flukes. My very first bass was on a fluke and i have loved them every since. Great video!

Great video! You help my buddy Frankie out a lot! He talks to you pretty regularly. Thanks for all you do man! Your great!
Very good video! Flukes are one of my go to baits and confidence catches. I watch most a lot of you're videos and they are always helpful.
the truth is he is a man trying to help people get better at what they love to do. jean is trying to make us better off than he had it.
The grips are called Reel Grips. I've had them for several years. You should be able to find them on line. Great video! I fish Clarks Hill quite a bit. Usually at the very top of the lake for stripers. The fish have been great this spring so far.
It has been great this year. The bass are healthy.
I use co-poly but I am switching to a new braid this year called Tuf-Line SuperCast.
Flukemaster hi, great video , very informative, I really like the tip to make flukes straight. What pound test do you use when fishing flukes wheedles in open water?
I use 15lb Izorline XXX main line with a 10lb Seaguar fluorocarbon leader.
I use a large swivel about 20 inches above the hook. This adds the needed weight to keep the bait under the surface and prevents line twist.
This video helped so much. Im actually boiling some water for my new flukes right now. Appreciate the video, and appreciate how you fish. Thanks man!

Yep. I use a large swivel for some added wight and to prevent line twist.
I love using flukes. I fish with them all year round and get plenty of small mouth bass and even pike to hit this lure!! I also work it as top water too and works just fine.
Not anymore. I just replaced it a couple of weeks ago. I am so happy to have that thing out of here. I almost made it a fish attractor a few times.
A fluke or any soft plastic fished weightless will cause major line twist. You put a swivel on the line to prevent that. I use a large swivel to give it a little more weight so I can work the fluke faster and still keep it under water.
there is so much information in your videos man, keep 'em up!
It takes more coordination to turn the handle than set the hook so it just feels more comfortable turning the handle with your dominant hand.
You should be able to get a good setup for less than 250
Wow. I subscribed this year and have been going through your old vids. You look so young in this one! :)
Thanks for the reminder. 😂
Thanks, I'm glad I could help you and Mr Salts.
Great video! I just started using zoom flukes and have had great success. I tried out the KVD perfect caffeine shad a couple of weeks ago and caught several fish including a nice 4 pounder. I like the KVD fluke a little better than the zoom fluke because of the way it falls like a senko.
The Rod is a Duckett Micro Magic Medium Action Casting Rod
The Reel is an Abu Garcia Revo STX 6.3:1
Dadgum your so good man. I live bout 30 minutes south of Atlanta and I love the dawgs too. Can't wait for you to make another video. Please keep em comin haha. And thanks so much.
That my favorite rod. It's a Duckett Micro Magic 7ft Med Fast Action rod. Model number DFMM70M-C. I paired it with a 6,3:1 gear ration Revo STX but I also will fish it with a 7.1:1 reel.
They are called Reel Grips. You can find them at most major fishing retailers like Tackle Warehouse and Bass Pro Shops.
Thanks James, I've never tried it but why not.
There are a lot of people who put them in boxes but I've found that if you do the box warps after a year or so. I keep mine in the original bag.
That was sweet you coasted right where they were jumping and right away you got em!
i ordered a 7ft 6in micro magic im hoping it will be here tommorow and i just but a quantum 6;3;1; flippin reel.... your videos are very helpful. keep up the good work
Powerbait used to make an amazing fluke, it was a baby bass with very realstic eyes. I haven't seen them around the last 2 years, but Zooms never done me wrong.
The one the bass want at that particular time of the day is my favorite bait to use.
I destroyed them in the Shad spawn lol
It all depends on the water clarity. If it's clear water go with something like white and as the water gets dingier move to darker colors. I don't fish it in muddy water.
Thanks for the info. Glad to see ya back in action!
That's awesome Phillip. Congratulations.
To reduce line twist and to add a little weight so the fluke can be fished just under the surface.
LOL!!!.
They are Fathom frames with 580G Green Mirror lenses.
any line will do. I use Izorline XXX in 15lb test. I have a video on how to cast light lures on a baitcaster. You should check it out.
I dont know why, but I like your old videos better..
Great video! Very good tips! Flukes are the best and you can even wacky rig them
It could be a number of things but it's probably that you don't have the hook on there perfectly straight.
I've probably watched all your vids 2or 3 times thanks for what u do
I've even caught bass on a wacky rig fluke😂😂
Yeah, two fish and the fluke isn't good for anything but wacky rig, gets a bit more value out of them.
I love Flukes but the Z Man Streakz is far more durable.
Almost skipped to when u started fishing til I heard u say no this is not a cooking show lol
I'll be trying these for the first time tomorrow. I'm sure they're good weedless bait that remain clean as they go through weed lines.
Bank fishing is hard in the winter no matter where you go. You will have a better chance if you find a small pond somewhere to fish. For the record. I don't live in NC I live in GA and travel to NC to guide for The Kingfisher Society. I don't get to fish Amy other lakes in NC.
Flukes are the greatest invention since canned beer. I never go out without a couple packs.
yes. I use a large swivel
I usually put one about 18 to 20 inches up from the hook.
The Zoom Super Fluke is the one with the cut belly. The super fluke Jr. also has one.
Spots are my absolute favorite. You thought it was a side hooked LM, but it was a little freight train Spot. A tasty little critter, too.
That's why I love to catch them too. They fight so hard I always think they are a pound or two larger then they end up being.
Pound for pound, IMO, they are the strongest black bass. My PB was over 4lbs. I still remember that fight from 20 years ago. Love some spots.
I find fishing a fluke with a small split shot. around docks in summer and early fall . is a great way to catch bass.
Jimmy Mitchell yes same
I prefer fluorocarbon or a co-polymer line.
I fish from the bank as I have no access to a boat (yet) tryin to get my buddy to sale me his lil 17ft John boat in payments which I think he is. Ima build a little deck on the front to stand on to fish from like a bass boat.. thanks again Mr fluke
