I still remember opening up the two Russian SKS rifles I bought back in the mid 1990's. They were under $100 each back then. I still have both of them.
Nice Rusky SKS, I own a Chinese SKS made in 1963 in Factory 26. It was in pretty rough shape when I bought it, no accessories either. Mine has the pinned and chromed barrel. Took a week to remove the Cosmo, rust and light corrosion from a lot of the rifle, the bore, bolt and receiver were primo. All matching numbers including the stock. Mine had to used in combat or as a trainer due to the wear on the bolt carrier and hammer. I use PPU 7.62 X 39 NON corrosive ammo only. After weeks of cleaning, polishing and lubrication, I headed out to the Range, she shoots new ! Good luck with yours. Pricy here now in NYS, about $399 for one.
Love my 53 Tula. Had a Chinese stock on it. Went to the gun show and found a decent Russian stock. Hand-fitted it and took it to the range. Better accuracy and trigger than my 1964 Factory 26 Chinese model 56. You got a keeper there! Wish mine looked so good. But as a shooter and not a wall hanger, I don't really care so much.
Man that's like getting a '69 Camero SS that hasn't been touched since the day it rolled off the assy line and was parked in a perfect climate room ever since. Dude congratulations, that is a stunning rifle.
You have one heck of a sweet SKS. Back in 1995, I landed me the Russian 1953 SKS. I love it! Looks identical to the one you have there. Of all my guns, this is one of my guns that will always be keeper!
on the tin box: ВУфл 133/78К - the type of powder, К-Kazan gunpowder plant ОБР.43 - standard 1943 7,62ПСгс -caliber + ПС(bullet type) + гс(type casings) in your case, the bullet with steel core, steel shell
Got to love the classic unboxing! These rifles are selling like hotcakes on a cold january day in Canada. No wonder. These are great collectors and fun to shoot too. The Russian Tula / Izhevsk examples are examples from the cold war. I picture children being instructed to hide underneath a classroom desk in the case of nuclear attack. To me they are the last of wooden/forged steel rifles that still had throwbacks to the much earlier Mosin Nagant turnbolt rifle. The SKS is an anachronism in a sense, and still a very capable rifle. Great all around rifle for the comman man.
ВУфл is a type of grained powder in the rounds. It is pyroxylin phlematized powder for Kalashnikov. It is not a rifle powder. It is weaker than for a snyper rifle.
Looks like it's blued. One I bought in CA in the early 90's was re finished with some sort of gun coat paint crap. That and the roor fitting stock I got tired of it and sold it. I don't miss that rifle but I would like to have a nice Russian some day.
Just bought an sks from west rifle today. I like that they give you some deets and pictures on the rifle before shipping. Mine is a 1954 Russian with laminate stock. I'm going to ass this one to my collections of sks that I don't touch. I've got three so far. These baby's are going to go like hot cakes just like svt 40's a few year's from now. Westrifle is one of the best places up here to get an sks
West rifle is a great company. I bought a mosin nagant M91 Red army rifle from him. Came with full kit and everything for only $100. That was almost five years back now. He had it registered and was even able to drop it off to my house in Ladner BC. Him and his father. Great guy great company.
I bought my SKS back in 1994 for around $ 100.00 at a gun show in Sacramento , California. It's Russian made in Tula in 1953. It's in very good shape. Fun to shoot.
In Canada centerfire semi-automatic rifle magazines must be limited to 5 round capacity. Higher capacity magazines that have been modified prior to importation to only accepts 5 rounds are acceptable. It is not required to replace the original magazine with a shorter one.
***** I agree and you bring up a good point. The way the law is written, it is legal to "overstuff" a magazine. For example, pistol magazines are limited to 10 rounds of the designed caliber. This means you can take a .40 caliber magazine, fill it with 9mm and if it works in your gun you are good to go. Also, for example, if you have a 10 round 5.56 pistol magazine, you can fill it and use it in your rifle. There are a couple other "loopholes" as well.
Shes a beauty! Love the dark wood coloring, fellow Canuck here and literally picking up my SKS tmrw:). Curious what method you used to remove the cosmoline?
I should have never sold my sks but needed $175.00 in 95 which was what I paid for it but who knows that they would gain popularity like they have and become hard to get, nice Rifle.
Beautiful rifle. Will definitely be buying from Westrifle based on the time they took to give you good pictures to review - I wish ALL online stores did that for these unique one-of-a-kind variations in quality and wear.
Nice looking rifle... I ordered a 99 dollar mosin awhile back which was in great shape westrifle has some nice firearms but unfortunately they have skyrocketed the prices and I will no longer buy from them
the grease as you call it is cosmoline, make sure you clean the firing pin or it may slam fire. These are great rifles but need to be cleaned very thorough before you shoot them
corrosive rounds are cheap but leave a salt deposit in the rifle and u need to clean out with hot water right away after firering.with a nice rifle like that I would only fire non corrosive rounds, not so much work having to clean as well
At 2:25 first two words are: Krasnodar kozhizdelie, Краснодар кожизделие-Krasnodar is a city, kozhizdelie is "leatherwork". I cant discern other words, maybe ill take another look when i get to look at it from pc
In the late 80’s they were $69 each. If you bought 1,440 round case of ammo for $140… they would give you a free rifle at the gun shows. They still aren’t “worth” more than 👉🏻$69👈🏻
Man I tell you what. Had I been smarter I would have a dozen of these. Well these and Yugoslavians. There was a shop at this farmers market where this guy had these all lined up prices ranged from $180-$200. Now they’re more than doubled. Now I’m fighting to find them. I recently got a Chinese one that actually is built pretty nice but I’ve re-done it with Tapco stock, added a blade bayonet, and a couple more accessories that make it function like an AK.
That looks like a as-issued or non refurb sks,i didnt see the xxxxx markings on the stock or the refurb mark above the tula logo on the reciever. Beutifull gun!
Of all the Russian carbines in my humble collection, none are more accurate than the SKS. I love my Mosin 91/30 and M44 (the M44 is my boom stick I love to shoot at the range when everyone is shooting their ARs - lol) but your SKS looks great - how is it nearly 2 years later???
Man....that looks sweet, VERY nice Tula and pouches. Super Jelly. How much was shipping? Are you out of B.C. as well? Been looking around local stores. Bought a MINT Mosin but still can't find a mint sks in AB
Another thing people make comments these Russian guns are beautiful. The reason why they have the largest forest in the world and a lot of nice hardwoods to work with
I still remember opening up the two Russian SKS rifles I bought back in the mid 1990's. They were under $100 each back then. I still have both of them.
If we only knew how much they would go up, would bought a couple crates of them. I just wish I had more.
Служил с таким. Отличный карабин. Завидую. Настоящий советский.

Pricy here now in NYS, about $399 for one.
20 years ago these gorgeous things were stacked like cord wood and 99 bucks a piece brand stinking new.
If I could go back in time and buy 2k worth of these I would in a freaking heart beat. Ugh
Burt Hulbert : Roger that and I regret not buying all of them!
I paid 125 and was happy....still am!
Mine was 149 with bi-pod and two 30's and they were stacked to the ceiling
I just got one for 75 broken spent 25 to fix lol

олег боровков да
Jure Janežič hey buddy that's not very nice
Красота, у всех тут слюни потекли)))
what a beautiful gun. Russians sure make a wonderful rifle
i wish i had the chance to shoot one but they were banned in 1996, before that they could be found in nearly every gun owners home
adam mont They arent banned anymore classic firearms and a couple other places have them forsale now. With bayonet sling and logbook from Yugoslavia.
@Robert Johnson lol i was wondering the same cuz these are everywere
And Women...
Man that's like getting a '69 Camero SS that hasn't been touched since the day it rolled off the assy line and was parked in a perfect climate room ever since. Dude congratulations, that is a stunning rifle.
That's not as nice as a SS camaro
No…
You have one heck of a sweet SKS. Back in 1995, I landed me the Russian 1953 SKS. I love it! Looks identical to the one you have there. Of all my guns, this is one of my guns that will always be keeper!
Thats one of the prettiest SKS I've seen, and I've seen many.
i have this sks obsession and now i want one real bad, also i could use it around the property.

М. В. Thanks!
Very nice! Just picked up one for 175 bucks, took 10 rounds and she's sighted in perfectly! Pretty good choice for my first gun IMO lol :)
Beauty! This rifle is never refurbished you can tell from the markings on the stock....collector grade

That is an amazing rifle... LOVE THE COLOR
love the original russian sks, i had 2 of them both were perfect!!
Always choose a knife that's up to the job.
If you don't mind, what's the price point on this weapon and how much extra did it cost coming from British Colombia. I'm very interested in one.
I used a stake knife to open my box, No problem.
That looks like museum piece its so smooth. I have a 56 Ghost SKS but yours would any beauty contest

I love my 1954 Russian Tula SKS! My Russian is pretty sweet, however, your rifle is even better. Perfect Russian, man. Great video!
Dude, you're cutting cardboard not skinning a moose. 😀
1:10 im just as excited as the dog was lol
very nice! I own a 1954 russian sks myself and love it to death!
West rifle is a great company. I bought a mosin nagant M91 Red army rifle from him. Came with full kit and everything for only $100. That was almost five years back now. He had it registered and was even able to drop it off to my house in Ladner BC. Him and his father. Great guy great company.

for 100 bucks is a steal :- )
I bought the China sks . First time fired at 100 yards iron sights hit target in a 12 inch circle.
That is a beautiful rifle.
Great Looking Rifle
Thanks!
that is a very good sample you got there sir nice one
I don't need on of these, but I want one!
In Canada centerfire semi-automatic rifle magazines must be limited to 5 round capacity. Higher capacity magazines that have been modified prior to importation to only accepts 5 rounds are acceptable. It is not required to replace the original magazine with a shorter one.
+cstorvold that's stupid. At least you can get .50 Beowulf AR mags and put 15 rounds of 5.56 in them
*****

That knife was a little overkill
They didn't even include a can opener with those spam cans!? What a rip! Beautiful rifle.
MrIloveoldschool you have to buy the Wooden Crate version for the spam cans opener :P
MrIloveoldschool I cut it open with an old knife and a hammer.
