Thank you so much for watching! I have been working on this project basically every day for the last two months, but I first started it over a year ago. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for quite a long time now. I have done one video using this song before. I really love this song, and this concept was something it felt very important to me to bring to life and share and I’m so happy to have finally done it. This song has a special place in my heart. It reached into me and touched me in a profound way, and I wanted to try to make something that could show how it makes me feel. Q. What is this story about? A. It’s about a few things. Kat, the white cat, and Bruno, the orange cat, are next-door neighbors and have grown up as childhood friends. Both are teenagers now and still friends. Kat has become involved in a relationship with an older man, represented by the wolf character, something Bruno repeatedly expresses concern over. It’s obvious to him that this isn’t healthy, this isn’t right, but she begs him not to tell anyone and convinces herself it’s fine. He holds that secret for her, even though watching her make this obvious mistake is painful. Finally, she makes the decision to end things, which is when he moves toward her violently and she is for the first time frightened, which is when Bruno appears and hits him with the shovel. After this they bury his body, and when Kat’s mother becomes suspicious, they dig it up again and throw it into the lake. The story is about the trauma Kat has put herself through, the decisions she has made and how they have affected her- and how they affect the people that love her, too. Watching someone you love do things that hurt themselves is painful, and as a result of the decisions they both made, in the end, they’ve created even more trauma from what Bruno had to do to save her. It is easy to hurt yourself and to hurt the people that love you, and we all do it. In the end, though, despite everything, they sit together beneath the orange tree and find comfort within each other. Whether their relationship is platonic or romantic is ambiguous, but it is still love either way, and love is the only thing that truly heals those kinds of wounds. Q. How long did this take? A. Two months of near constant work, but I did most of the original storyboard a year ago. Q. Did you do all of this on your own? Yes. I did not make the song, but all of the visuals are entirely mine. I didn’t have any help. Q. Are these your original characters or are they from something? A. I made them. They’re original characters I made to tell the story of the song. Q. What did you animate this in? A. Clip Studio Paint EX. Q. How old are the characters in this? A. I’ve left it ambiguous. Kat and Bruno are teenagers and the man is older, but whether Kat is 16 or 19 is up to your own personal interpretation. Either way she is being taken advantage of. Q. What’s with the art style? A. The song addresses what feels like quite a heavy topic, but it has this sort of simplistic, traditional melody. It feels innocent in a way, at a stark contrast to what its about. I thought the cutesy, animal-crossing adjacent art style would help convey that feeling of wrongness, the heavy topic and sweet visuals, the same way there is a feeling of wrongness seeing a young person like Kat in this situation. Q. I didn’t know you could do frame by frame! A. Lmao i know a lot of ppl think that. I hope i never hear that one again lol. ;) Q. Do you take commissions? A. Rarely. @@cottonwillow2820 Always sketch/storyboard before you start animating shots, try to vary up shot composition as much as you can, and above all, avoid burnout. taking breaks is better than powering through to the finish and losing motivation before you get there!
2:08 you can tell he was just trying to protect her. the way his eyes are and the tail shows that he was scared of what the wolf was going to do to her. and the scene direct after when kat is stumbling over to bruno is beautiful. 10/10 loved the animation!
Adding onto this, the way he had realised what he had done was immaculate. The way he was petrified of having commit murder, knowing he was protecting his best friend. The transition from protective blind rage, to pure adrenaline fear, it was gorgeous, you could feel each and every single frame and emotion Bruno felt then and there

As someone who has been groomed and abused in relationships in the past, this hits super hard. I appreciate how you portrayed everything that could happen in a toxic relationship like this. You even go to the point to show no matter how bad the person was that was killed, murder will bring a whole lot of guilt and pain, as well as trauma. This is a very accurate representation of the pains, I could connect with Kat a lot when it comes to wanting to leave but having fear of the outcome only to finally stand up and be met with aggression. Even though I can't connect fully with the whole scenario here as I was able to get out of the relationship before it went too far thanks to friends intervening, I still can feel the pain of a toxic relationship, so thanks for tackling such a dark subject matter.

The look Bruno often has like he's lost or out of it after he killed the man is very accurate, for I assume they're both still relatively young, early 20's perhaps, and doing something like that so suddenly at such a young age can certainly leave lots of trauma on someone, often leaving them to question their actions. Bruno might know he did right thing, saving his friend's life, yet still distraught about what he'd done. It's very spot on, and honestly amazing work. Great job!
This part makes me wanna cry a lot or smth, it keeps reminding me of a old comic dub I used to watch with a toxic friendship and I still can’t get it out of my brain
This was… absolutely stunning. The story-telling, the expressions, the colors, the framing, the animation, it was all perfect. One of my favorite animation videos, definitely. I hope to see more of Bruno and Kat 👀
Pointing things out cuz why not! :D Fun fact: cats tails will wag quickly when anxious,angry,or sad. Notice how much times their tails sway as they feel harsh emotions. This one isn’t a fun fact but it’ll work: notice how much smaller Kat is then the wolves. Both the one she was in a relationship with and the workers/police who asked her where the one she was in a relationship with went. Showing how young she might be. They live with their parents! People who might 18-20 might live with their parents but they most likely would move to a university or college dorm. This might mean their very young. I’m saying 13-16. Showing more on Kat being gr-med. Just a theory for this one but I think the flowers show the relationship of Bruno and Kat during the wolves relationship with Kat. The petals falling down on one of them after the argument and after the wolf is killed by Bruno the flower is seen more healthy.
First off, I love that you decided to draw this in a more simple, “childish” art style. It really shows how young and innocent the main characters are, and brings a great contrast to the darker themes/lyrics. What I really, really love about this though, is the facial expressions and body language. It is so easy to tell what the characters are doing and feeling. One of my absolute favorite parts are at 0:25. Sometimes one of the hardest aspects of conveying emotions and acting, is when a character is standing still and there really isn’t a lot of movement. Yet in these few seconds, so much is happening with Bruno. Waves of emotions, conflicting feelings. Sadness, concern, anger - in mere seconds. It’s like, so little yet so much happens on screen. Honestly I could ramble on forever, about your acting and story telling in animation, but what I’m trying to say is: I admire how well you animate drama and acting!
this animation hits close to home. Not the murder part, but my best friend helped me out of a sexually and emotionally abusive relationship with an older guy. My mom blamed me for it, and she still does. He got the guy arrested, but both he and I still feel guilt.
I know this is 2 months late but I hope you are feeling better now. The older guy DEFINITLY deserves to be going to jail, where he can’t put harm to other people. I hope you are able to get the help you need to cope after such a situation. 🫶🩷
This is so silly but my favorite part is with Bruno driving the shovel into the ground (2:43 - 2:48) syncs with the song in a way that feels like you can actually hear the shovel being dragged into the dirt. It's just the cherry on top for an incredibly heartwrenching animation. Same with at 2:59 with the creepy wolf in the rug hitting the water, it's like you can hear the splash.
As someone who has experienced all except the, "death" & "murder", this absolutely hits a totally different spot. I'm currently trying to put all those negative things behind me, so I thought I should maybe watch animations like this. Considering I love animation and I make animations. I don't actually know if it's working or not, but this is astonishing. The movements, the expressions, the color settings.. everything. It may not be the same feeling as anyone else, but I can closely relate to this (of course, except the murder). This video and animation was simply beautiful and touching, thank you. I think it helps a lot to meditate! I never wanted to try it but you should really give it a shot, it turned my life upside down for the better! I can handle my thoughts way better now
@@sakurashark202 That's a great option, thanks! I was diagnosed with PTSD by my therapist almost a month ago, and I'm currently doing a treatment- I think it's called "neurofeedback" or something. It's my first time trying it, and so far I don't feel a difference. But I can always try meditation to try and keep my thoughts from flooding! :D
Thank you! I feel, before I took a year long hiatus, I had stopped being an artist, and truly become a content creator. I really resent that, and as a part of coming back I wanted very much to create artwork again, and this is the real result of that, something I'm proud of that comes from my heart.
I have just very recently been sexually abused and taken advantage of. It lasted months and it came from someone who was my closest friend and then turned into a horrible abusive relationship. Once I watched this video, I cried a lot cause I relate to it so much. My best friend is helping me heal from my abuse, just like Bruno in the video. I love the way your portray all the feelings of despair, agony, sadness, delusion there. I love how you show, without any words how the wolf is a manipulator. Thank you for making this video I can relate so much to. I am in a lot of pain right now, but seeing this video gives a weird sense of hope and it helps a lot. Amazing job, I love everything in it.

I like that Kat never touches Bruno except a few specific times. Like, after the first time where she was trying to convince him it was fine, it’s like she asked for permission.
The mastery of the English language and music shown in the original song is crazy. I was taken aback on my second listen when I realized what I thought was a slurred "Some dumb whore, what were you were wearing?" was actually "Some dull morning, we were wearing sheets." It makes me think of those audios that change depend on what you're focusing on: except it doesn't use any tricks of audio engineering to achieve the effect. It's just that the syllables align perfectly to communicate an alternative meaning, when you have the context. As someone who can't rhyme or maintain poetic meter worth a shit, that's just, WOW. Love it, love the animation.
God the expressions and body language especially gave me chills. CHILLS. I can't stop rewatching this from around 1:52 onwards in particular. The way it flows and the characters move set the tone for the story and its SO goddamn good
2:08 HELL YEAH!!! I feel a deep connection to both of these characters. I think, in a way, I’m a lot like both of these characters. I’ve never been in a romantic relationship, but I have been abused. I’m still unlearning a lot of what my abuser planted in my head, and living with him grows more intolerable by the day, but I’m not in a position where I can reasonably move out within a year, maybe even two. So. Content like this helps me remember that there are good people out there that will fight for you, and if ever you can’t find one, that means you have no choice but to fight for yourself. If you find yourself in a situation like this, stay strong-it won’t last forever, you will get out, you deserve to get out, you deserve to be loved-truly loved, by other people and by yourself. It’s a difficult situation, but art helps me a lot with processing and venting my emotions. Hopefully I can move out soon. I’m hoping that some distance will do me good, and that I don’t have to end up cutting him off completely, but we’ll see. I’m working on being a little more independent now. Small things like making my own accounts for things rather than using other people’s, paying for my own food, etc.
Even though im extremely late, this is absolutely amazing and to me, it really shows how people feel when emotionally or sexually abused, it shows the mixture of helplessness, anger, and fear all in one of being abused, and it really showed how angry Bruno was at the fact that Kat was being sexually abused by the wolf, everything in this video is perfect.

This is a work of art. I rarely ever cry at any media, but this BROKE me. This song is a masterpiece paired with the amazing storytelling and stunning animation. Upset that I didn't find this sooner. The raw emotion in the song along with the heartbreaking story gets me so much-
You know, it's funny, someone said in the live chat "is that his mom?" And I immediately had this "oh my god I never considered someone might interpret it that way I didn't account for that oh my god how is that going to come across" panic lol. I tried to think of as many ways someone could interpret things as I could so I knew where I needed to make things more clear but I totally missed that one

I had the same reaction, it was an odd tone an infliction for "flowers". But it didn't distract much from the beautiful animation/musical story telling.
Okay, I have two things to say. One, this was a stunning representation of what people who have experienced this sort of thing go through (I would know, because I’m unfortunately a victim). The animation was beautiful, and using cartoony, cute characters to go through this story really shows that anybody can get in that situation. Two, who else just got really sad when they say they had snipped his little flower? Like, he probably worked really hard on that ;-;

i was recently at a sleepover with two of my friends and i brought up this song and all three of us said that this exact video was our introduction to the song. this is awesome.
I remember obsessing over this when I was younger and made little character drawings of those little cats and sang this in the shower like half the time I love this animatic.

You know I already had this idea in mind before I even made that meme? But it was such a huge thing, a fully animated music video?? And I barely had the skill to pull it off even if I had the time. I almost did the meme as sort of an apology to myself, you can't make that huge project you really want to , but you can still share this song you love and do something special. But that nagging idea just never went away. I never stopped wanting to do it. It feels surreal after all these years for it to exist now.

2:03 : the line 'very able to ho!d me down' accompanied by the wolf's shadow overtaking kat, was a sign of what that wo!f could have done had Bruno not been there. Never been in a situation like that, nobody should. But despite that, people are still piles of shit for no reason somtimes, anyone who has been in that kind of relationship/situation, you should have been more appreciated, and, if you do still date, I hope you end up with somone who is amazing and would never do the sort of thing that is described in this video. On the other hand, 100/10 vid Edit: the bells at the end are especially good to add character to the song, the bells remind me of dragging a body

Someone else could've mentioned this or it might not be the intended meaning, but it legitimately looks like the orange cat is telling her that there'll be people to back her up and help her but she's too scared to tell anyone. "Everyone will come" (to your aid) vs "everyone will yell" (at me).
I'm very grateful for the mature reference warning, 👀 but I'm still both glad and surprised that the mature subjects were either tamed or only hinted at. This meaning that the result wasn't as explicit as your warning led me to fear👍
AHHH Nate this is so good! It feels so special to see it all come together, and I cannot express the absolute joy and awe I have to be able to have seen this from the start all the way up to the finish. Thank you so much for allowing me to view this part of you and to be a part of this project! This video is certainly one of my favorites, and I feel so honored to look at it and see the love that no doubt went into this!! The frame by frame for the climax in the song of Bruno killing the wolf and Kat coming to comfort him is one of my favorite moments, as is the end where Kat and Bruno share the weight of what they've done under the tree. It's so poignant and I love the emotions of it. Also I really like the like duality of how young Kat really is when she's questioned by the wolf police! She looks so small and there's this moment that I thought that "wow Kat is really small" and it like hit me that she and Bruno are kids that are just in over their heads at this moment, you know? The simplicity really makes it hit for me. :)
My favorite animation. The story, everything- you portray that no matter how good a relationship may look, a thin layer simply hides what goes on before- and how murdering someone, even the bad for greater good, can be traumatizing.

Adding onto this, the way he had realised what he had done was immaculate. The way he was petrified of having commit murder, knowing he was protecting his best friend. The transition from protective blind rage, to pure adrenaline fear, it was gorgeous, you could feel each and every single frame and emotion Bruno felt then and there

As someone who has been groomed and abused in relationships in the past, this hits super hard. I appreciate how you portrayed everything that could happen in a toxic relationship like this. You even go to the point to show no matter how bad the person was that was killed, murder will bring a whole lot of guilt and pain, as well as trauma.
This is a very accurate representation of the pains, I could connect with Kat a lot when it comes to wanting to leave but having fear of the outcome only to finally stand up and be met with aggression.
Even though I can't connect fully with the whole scenario here as I was able to get out of the relationship before it went too far thanks to friends intervening, I still can feel the pain of a toxic relationship, so thanks for tackling such a dark subject matter.

The look Bruno often has like he's lost or out of it after he killed the man is very accurate, for I assume they're both still relatively young, early 20's perhaps, and doing something like that so suddenly at such a young age can certainly leave lots of trauma on someone, often leaving them to question their actions. Bruno might know he did right thing, saving his friend's life, yet still distraught about what he'd done. It's very spot on, and honestly amazing work. Great job!

This one isn’t a fun fact but it’ll work: notice how much smaller Kat is then the wolves. Both the one she was in a relationship with and the workers/police who asked her where the one she was in a relationship with went. Showing how young she might be.
They live with their parents! People who might 18-20 might live with their parents but they most likely would move to a university or college dorm. This might mean their very young. I’m saying 13-16. Showing more on Kat being gr-med.
Just a theory for this one but I think the flowers show the relationship of Bruno and Kat during the wolves relationship with Kat. The petals falling down on one of them after the argument and after the wolf is killed by Bruno the flower is seen more healthy.

First off, I love that you decided to draw this in a more simple, “childish” art style. It really shows how young and innocent the main characters are, and brings a great contrast to the darker themes/lyrics.
What I really, really love about this though, is the facial expressions and body language. It is so easy to tell what the characters are doing and feeling. One of my absolute favorite parts are at 0:25. Sometimes one of the hardest aspects of conveying emotions and acting, is when a character is standing still and there really isn’t a lot of movement. Yet in these few seconds, so much is happening with Bruno. Waves of emotions, conflicting feelings. Sadness, concern, anger - in mere seconds.
It’s like, so little yet so much happens on screen.
Honestly I could ramble on forever, about your acting and story telling in animation, but what I’m trying to say is: I admire how well you animate drama and acting!

this animation hits close to home. Not the murder part, but my best friend helped me out of a sexually and emotionally abusive relationship with an older guy. My mom blamed me for it, and she still does. He got the guy arrested, but both he and I still feel guilt.
I know this is 2 months late but I hope you are feeling better now. The older guy DEFINITLY deserves to be going to jail, where he can’t put harm to other people. I hope you are able to get the help you need to cope after such a situation. 🫶🩷

This is so silly but my favorite part is with Bruno driving the shovel into the ground (2:43 - 2:48) syncs with the song in a way that feels like you can actually hear the shovel being dragged into the dirt. It's just the cherry on top for an incredibly heartwrenching animation. Same with at 2:59 with the creepy wolf in the rug hitting the water, it's like you can hear the splash.
It even sounds like *shoveling intensifies*
As someone who has experienced all except the, "death" & "murder", this absolutely hits a totally different spot. I'm currently trying to put all those negative things behind me, so I thought I should maybe watch animations like this. Considering I love animation and I make animations. I don't actually know if it's working or not, but this is astonishing. The movements, the expressions, the color settings.. everything. It may not be the same feeling as anyone else, but I can closely relate to this (of course, except the murder). This video and animation was simply beautiful and touching, thank you. @@sakurashark202 That's a great option, thanks! I was diagnosed with PTSD by my therapist almost a month ago, and I'm currently doing a treatment- I think it's called "neurofeedback" or something. It's my first time trying it, and so far I don't feel a difference. But I can always try meditation to try and keep my thoughts from flooding! :D

I have just very recently been sexually abused and taken advantage of. It lasted months and it came from someone who was my closest friend and then turned into a horrible abusive relationship. Once I watched this video, I cried a lot cause I relate to it so much. My best friend is helping me heal from my abuse, just like Bruno in the video. I love the way your portray all the feelings of despair, agony, sadness, delusion there. I love how you show, without any words how the wolf is a manipulator. Thank you for making this video I can relate so much to. I am in a lot of pain right now, but seeing this video gives a weird sense of hope and it helps a lot. Amazing job, I love everything in it.

The mastery of the English language and music shown in the original song is crazy. I was taken aback on my second listen when I realized what I thought was a slurred "Some dumb whore, what were you were wearing?" was actually "Some dull morning, we were wearing sheets." It makes me think of those audios that change depend on what you're focusing on: except it doesn't use any tricks of audio engineering to achieve the effect. It's just that the syllables align perfectly to communicate an alternative meaning, when you have the context. As someone who can't rhyme or maintain poetic meter worth a shit, that's just, WOW. Love it, love the animation.
God the expressions and body language especially gave me chills. CHILLS. I can't stop rewatching this from around 1:52 onwards in particular. The way it flows and the characters move set the tone for the story and its SO goddamn good

I feel a deep connection to both of these characters. I think, in a way, I’m a lot like both of these characters. I’ve never been in a romantic relationship, but I have been abused. I’m still unlearning a lot of what my abuser planted in my head, and living with him grows more intolerable by the day, but I’m not in a position where I can reasonably move out within a year, maybe even two. So. Content like this helps me remember that there are good people out there that will fight for you, and if ever you can’t find one, that means you have no choice but to fight for yourself. If you find yourself in a situation like this, stay strong-it won’t last forever, you will get out, you deserve to get out, you deserve to be loved-truly loved, by other people and by yourself.

Thank you, and everyone else, for responding so kindly. It’s a difficult situation, but art helps me a lot with processing and venting my emotions. Hopefully I can move out soon. I’m hoping that some distance will do me good, and that I don’t have to end up cutting him off completely, but we’ll see. I’m working on being a little more independent now. Small things like making my own accounts for things rather than using other people’s, paying for my own food, etc.

Even though im extremely late, this is absolutely amazing and to me, it really shows how people feel when emotionally or sexually abused, it shows the mixture of helplessness, anger, and fear all in one of being abused, and it really showed how angry Bruno was at the fact that Kat was being sexually abused by the wolf, everything in this video is perfect.

Okay, I have two things to say.
One, this was a stunning representation of what people who have experienced this sort of thing go through (I would know, because I’m unfortunately a victim). The animation was beautiful, and using cartoony, cute characters to go through this story really shows that anybody can get in that situation.
Two, who else just got really sad when they say they had snipped his little flower? Like, he probably worked really hard on that ;-;

Honestly this was only now recommended to me, I’ve always loved the song since seeing your first original meme with it and seeing this now with such an amazing story told in such a simplistic but informative way? I’m awestruck
You know I already had this idea in mind before I even made that meme? But it was such a huge thing, a fully animated music video?? And I barely had the skill to pull it off even if I had the time. I almost did the meme as sort of an apology to myself, you can't make that huge project you really want to , but you can still share this song you love and do something special. Never been in a situation like that, nobody should. But despite that, people are still piles of shit for no reason somtimes, anyone who has been in that kind of relationship/situation, you should have been more appreciated, and, if you do still date, I hope you end up with somone who is amazing and would never do the sort of thing that is described in this video.

The frame by frame for the climax in the song of Bruno killing the wolf and Kat coming to comfort him is one of my favorite moments, as is the end where Kat and Bruno share the weight of what they've done under the tree. It's so poignant and I love the emotions of it. Also I really like the like duality of how young Kat really is when she's questioned by the wolf police! She looks so small and there's this moment that I thought that "wow Kat is really small" and it like hit me that she and Bruno are kids that are just in over their heads at this moment, you know? The simplicity really makes it hit for me. :)

My skin absolutely crawled when I rewatched this and realised that the other guy was probably an adult in an "intimate relationship" with her.
My favorite animation. The story, everything- you portray that no matter how good a relationship may look, a thin layer simply hides what goes on before- and how murdering someone, even the bad for greater good, can be traumatizing.
