The greatest Canadian ever. No fame, no fortune expected. Not a politician, not famous, not a television personality, not a movie star. Just a guy that wanted to make a difference. An amazing wonderful person whose story still make me cry with gratitude even all these years later. I'll never forget hearing those awful words on the television that he'd died and seeing the nurse crying. You did us proud Terry and we keep it going in your name. Bravo.

As I reflect on my youth, I can't help but think of all the challenges that came my way and how I faced them. To be honest, I think my generation faced those challenges with the same tenacity and grit, especially because we had some great role models to inspire us, like Rocky Balboa, Mike Tyson. . Of course, it's easy to be motivated when you're looking up to perfect people. But what happens when you're faced with someone who is "imperfect"? Take Terry Fox, for example. What would you do if you had your right leg amputated due to cancer? Would you run across Canada to raise money for research? That's exactly what Terry Fox did in 1981. After being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, Fox had his right leg amputated above the knee.
Fox was determined to help other cancer patients. He knew that research was the key to finding a cure, and he wanted to do his part to raise money and awareness.
On April 12, 1980, Fox set off from St. John's, Newfoundland, on his "Marathon of Hope." His goal was to run across Canada, from coast to coast, covering 42 kilometers (26.2 miles) a day.
Fox ran for 143 days and 5,373 kilometers (3,339 miles). He raised over $1.7 million for cancer research, and his story inspired people around the world. Unfortunately, Fox's cancer returned, and he was forced to stop running on September 1, 1980. He died just nine months later, at the age of 22. Despite his death, Fox's legacy lives on. He is a national hero in Canada, and his Marathon of Hope continues to raise money for cancer research.
Fox's story is a reminder that even in the face of great adversity, we can achieve great things. He was an inspiration to his generation, and he continues to inspire people today. I got shown the Terry Fox film when I was a student in high school, a few thousand miles across the Atlantic in Bonnie Scotland in my Religious Education class, several years after Terry had died. His name stuck, and many years later I looked him up online, read a bit about him, found the film again, on RUclips, and watched it again. Some of it is hard to watch, but it is so inspiring. I am glad Terry got the appreciation he deserved, and so sad that the cancer came back and he died. But he helped save many lives and his good work continues. He didn't let himself be beaten down and he was not defeated - cancer did not stop him from achieving so much, and this not for himself but for other people. He witnessed horrible scenes of others suffering and set out to do something about it - and he succeeded. RIP Terry.

I hear his story for the first time, what a hero! I broke my knee ankle 5 years ago and after two surgeries and two years of sports every day, I managed to run 15 km again. But then shortly after I became very sick and almost died, I had a bad flare up with ulcerative colitis, with which I was diagnosed a few months later. I stoped running and now try to do this again. Listening to this young man, I feel so inspired! I try to raise money for a study that ensures that cortisone isn't helpful for chronic inflammation patients, its harmful. We get more inflammations from cortisone and they become worse over the years.

His brother Fred came to our school to speak today. Before I barely knew about terry’s story just like everyone else. But today his story really touched me deeply... it’s unexplainable. Getting to know Terry more as a regular person just like all of us. Nowadays we see him as a famous person and a symbol, but he never did and it was never a part of his motivation. His heart was so pure and I couldn’t help it but admire this man so much... Hands down he’s one of the few people that I look up to the most. just that energy and hope that he had, I can hardly imagine anyone else having it. RESPECT

I know, there's things we don't control, and privilege is a very powerful tool in society. But even so, Terry Fox became immortal. I'm from Mexico, and I didn't knew anything from him, until I moved to BC. This man inspire me
