  • Wes Streeting will promise to turn the NHS into a “neighbourhood health service” as he launches a major consultation about the institution’s next decade.
The Health Secretary is set to invite patients and NHS staff to take part in a “national conversation” to shape the Government’s 10-year plan for the service next week, a central plank of Labour’s health policy.
Talk’s Mike Graham discusses the story with The Sunday Express' health and social affairs editor, Lucy Johnston.

Will patients be able to fine the NHS when they strike, move or cancel appointments?

Apparently interpreters turn up at hospital for people who can't speak English and the people who need them don't manage to get there......The interpreters are still paid for and as far as we know the people who don't speak English are not getting fined ....it's something of an epidemic in some hospitals..... look for the video on RUclips it's one of "reasoned" vids ......

Wow, how would that work when my mum was dying of cancer she missed 3 appointments at one hospital because she was in hospital. Being treated .So, she was double booked at 2 hospitals. So maybe they need to stop employing idiots first .

@DeneMonkey No, they phoned her up in bed at the hospital to say she was late for the appointments .When the family pointed out the problem to the staff at the hospital. It still happened two more times

Reform MP, Rupert Lowe, asked the Department of Health how much foreigners’ treatment on the NHS had been written off. The answer: 2020/21 = £46 million, 2021/22 = £36 million and 2022/23 = £37 million. Perhaps double-chinned Wes Streeting (who could do with losing a stone or two himself) should start there.

So right and as always it is the British people who end up paying for this written off money just like all the pensioners will pay for all the illegal immigrants living in hotels and more coming in, and many will not receive their fuel allowance this year or any more years while labour is running things!

better still they either pay for their own health care or the employers should provide a health insurance policy for them when they bring them in from overseas( other countries already do this)

Missing appointments?? You’ve got more chance of seeing Lord Lucan riding past on Sherga than even getting one , you can’t miss them unless you don’t answer the phone when the doctor rings for a phone consultation

  • @Kim-J312

It should be the exact opposite !!!!! UK 🇬🇧 citizens should be able to fine doctors and surgeons millions for canceling patients surgeries . Canceling or postponing surgeries could be life threatening. Imagine your cancer surgery or chemo canceled by doctors. Patients d@e waiting for treatment. Why is health care in UK acting like a 3rd world country?

  • @Janhope73

This makes me laugh my husband only got a text message yesterday about an appointment for his hearing he has been waiting since April. He got a text message I filled in the required form and the link never happened, so he got another text message that link did work, now he is waiting for his appointment. My husband is 80 and can make a call and take a call but other things he does not know so if I had not been around to do this he would have had to go to the doctors surgery and sort it all out there! What is wrong with sending a letter in the post or an email! If the NHS stopped spending money on managers and diversity, they just might be able to employ more medical people!

Can imagine it now. Bus didn't turn up or train cancelled due 'shortage of train crew' and so missed appointment. At least delay repay would off set cost of fine.
But first off, they should stop treating, for free, those who do not have any legal right to be in our home.

NHS should be fined for cancelling appointments. 48% of NHS staff are managers/supervisors, you cannot run a business with 48% of your staff are free loaders???????????????

Not everybody can or wants to do things digitally. Before anyone signs up to any of these apps they need to ask how is where is their information stored who will have access to it and how will it be used. MPs also mention Social Care and Health care in the same breath. They are completely different. Until Social Care is sorted out the NHS will not improve.

I fairly recently had to attend A&E for a monkey bite to my face, they took it very seriously and the difference was had the animal had the necessary jabs or was it a "wild" animal. I could not answer this question but the difference could have been the difference between life and death for me. When I did finally get the information (it was OK.) I tried to phone the hospital to update them but completely failed to get hold of anyone that could help me. The treatment was brilliant, but the admin was terrible.

Having to deal with 6 hospitals currently for treatment I can say the I.T. system and bookings need a complete overhaul ,they seem to like scheduling appointments at the same time (4x now they have given me appointments in London and Oxford at the same time) and the the system to change appointments on line doesn't work and hours can be spent on phone and you still don't get it resolved most of the time.
I would add that having me come in for an appointment with a Doctor who isn't scheduled to to arrive until an hour after my appointment is a regular occurrence for anyone on the A.M. schedule.

When I sign in to see my medical notes at my Doctors it says I didn't turn up for an appointment, I rang them up and asked what it was about as I didn't even had an appointment, they told me it was a mistake and they would correct it, that was back in May and today it's still on that site that I missed an imaginary appointment so that will make up the numbers of missed appointments even it's its rubbish, would I get a fine for that?

Another problem when you have an appointment and 5 months before you attend your appointment the hospital cancels it with no reason and does not replace that appointment that was cancelled. I was sent on a wild goose chase trying to get another appointment. I was sent to one department and gave me a number to ring . In the end i had rung 8 numbers. 2 of those numbers were hospital appointment department. They then told me they couldn’t book an appointment for me. I was at wits end and very angry. I sent an email to the person in charge at the hospital appointment office, and within days I got my appointment with them saying they had changed the system and this had happened to quite a few patients. It’s a disgrace to be honest. If i was elderly person I would of given up

So they should, in my surgery they have an info display up, and the previous month 600 waisted appointments, by people not turning up. Yet people can't get one, it really doesn't take much to get in contact with your surgery to cancel or rearrange it.

the nhs keep making appointments for me without asking.. for a hospital miles away.. and it costs me real money to phone them up to cancel.. and i dont drive anyway
why should i pay a fine for not going to that?

  • @JustSarah00
    @JustSarah00 7 часов назад

This won't work. It would just cause more stress for NHS workers. Patients shouting at staff because they received a fine.
There are already systems in place by departments. Patients only get so many chances and then are discharged. It isn't ideal, but I think fines are not the way forward.

So wot bout when the NHS have you on their records as a 'did not attend' twice yet you didnt even get any correspondance be it letter, text, email to state you had appointment in the first place. Took me 7 years to get a breast screening.....good job i complained cos thats how i found out about the shambles on my records. The NHS is not fit for purpose and needs a damned good shake up.
