The baritone saxophonist IS Frank Hittner, who was on the band for several years. Maynard is the trumpet soloist, and the composer-arranger is pianist Mike Abene, who also was on the band for several years and wrote many excellent charts for it.
Good comments. Back in '65 I was driving home from visiting my fiance late at night and this album was playing on the radio and . . . yeah, I HAD to buy it. Every tune on the album is an excellent performance.
I've heard "Frank" is Frank Hittner, who played Bari in the band around this time. What the connection is between him, Maynard, and Mike Abene - I haven't the foggiest idea.
I'm not sure, but I believe it was Maynard's 1963 album that he also did "Go East, Young Man" and "Pretty Little Nina". These were two cuts that I really liked and haven't been able to find. "Go East" was a big band DRIVING piece of music and "Pretty Little Nina" was a beautiful study in blues. If you happen to have them and can add them I would forever be grateful...
Maynard’s peak-the Roulette albums. Next would be the albums immediately before and after the Roulette discs, esp the ones on Mainstream; the British band; and the early Big Bop Nouveau years.
mom played this music when i was 4 yrs old=== blessed kid
PURE MUSIC
Dumb you tube never suggested this for me. I had to search for it. This is fantastic.

Also, Knarf is Frank backwards.
Mike Abene also composed the chart for Buddy Rich and Lionel Hampton titled EG.

Real jamsession feeling, super soloist and of course Maunard himself
Mayn was the Birdland 52 nd & Broadway House Band Leader during the late 50's early 60's! Miles was on the other side of the ticket!
love it
Super
Maynard played with a more laid back style on this song. A great solo as with all jazz you have to include all moods in your playing

THEY WERE IN THE BAND TOGETHER....
That’s true and Mike Abene is a chartwriter for Maynard as well.

I figured that it was Ronnie Cuber on sax because he played in the band around this time. However, the comments have proven to be helpful!
