@Dombowerphoto I just checked the manual, you are right. They call them the Ready-Lights. Will also indicate if there was an error in communicating, overheat, etc.

Dom, the quality of your videos has improved so much since this video! The facts were there but now the production quality is there too, amazing how much difference it makes :D

Those AF assist lights work at a pretty impressive distance, they've locked focus for me in dark venues with lots of distracting lights and lasers. The pattern is damn near invisible at 20+ feet.

I need to buy two more SB-900s. I depend on them heavily and mine overheat all the time as I tend to use it often at weddings or at car shows in the SUMMER HEAT. I've noticed that my SB-900 overheats quicker in the summer than in the winter. In the winter I can blast away with the SB-900 and it'll go longer ways before eventually overheating.

the zoom is actually 17-200, or 14 with diffuser :D but anyway, you're the reason I got sb900 a year ago and not regret it a bit, i got a second one and i'm thinking about a third one. This is just an awesome product and CLS is just a god send.

@gilegraam correct on the 17-200 but i think that is in a fx mode, when mounted to a dx camera it says 10mm (which is 15mm in fx mode anyway.

As far as the red lights which are used for focus/flash assist, I *think* the camera's focus point has to be set to the center spot; if not, the assist lights do not come on for the flash.

    Double post, but;
    1) Why do you cover the cameras name and model? Everybody knows that the SB-900 is a Nikon and you even say so. And the SB-900 only(?) goes with a nikon?
    2) Why a canon strap on the Nikon?
I really want an sb-900, I dont have a flash and dont have near enough money (studying) but I will save until I can afford one! :D
And again, great video as always! Thanks!

ATG Nissin MG8K and Nissin MG8000 are the new kids around and have surpassed Canon 600EX-RT and Nikon SB-910. Shooters are buying these guys.
550/580/600/800/900/910 all have overheating & shutdown problems.

if i understood properly, you said that for FP mode the flash fires at a lower power for a much shorter time. I have also heard that what they do is to actually fire for a longer time at a lower power so the camera can catch it. Do you still think the same as what you said in this video? It would be easy to check it I guess, if changing the shutterspeed at that FP mode modifies the amount of flash in the photo you're right :) I would check it but I have no FLASH units :(
    Great Vids btw! Thanks!!

The only time mine has ever gone into overheat protection was at a wedding were I was taking party shots of the dance zoomed to 10.5mm with my 10.5 fisheye at half power(ceiling was high). Had been shooting with it ALL day and it didn't over heat until I did that.
PS Why'd you cover the Nikon Badge and Model Badge on the cam? Is it a big secret that you shoot Nikon? lol

Also, one more thing. Was using an old bayonet mount lens on d90 with pop up flash in commander mode. No problem. The next day turned camera on with same older lens and pop up flash lifted, and nothing. Shutter will not go when pop-up is on. With pop-up down shutter WILL work. Changed over to new lens and shutter works with and without pop up on. Have remounted the old lens several times to check, batry is charged. Just cleaned all of the contacts. Any thoughts on what is wrong. Grt vids thnk u

I got 2 SB-900 flashes and they are pretty good and loving them, but the problem is it over heats whenever I do fashion photography (yes most of the stuff I learned is from you and thanks a lot), so what do you think of SB-910? I didn't read nor hear anything new about it, but I'm just hoping if they fixed the overheating problem atleast, by the way nice combination, Canon strap on Nikon :)

Hi Guys! Can someone help to find a problem with my old Nikon D700. The camera is working fine without using flash. Also its ok with any code flashes without synch adapters on to the hot shoe. But when I use any flashes such as D900 or D800; the camera is not firing instantly and it takes a few seconds to fire. I tried all the setting but no use. Please advise me if this is due to wrong settings or any technical problems in the camera?

I was considering a di866 , as my first flash, is it worth it? the guide number certainly recomends it, Since it's the high end flash of nissin, i think it's the equivalent of a nikons mid range sb 700, am i right?
I was thinking using the di866 II for parties in pubs, clubs etc but general use also. What do you recommend? The only thing that worries me is the 866's plastic attach wheel thing

Probably the most useless video I’ve seen. Did he show the two flashes working together? No. Did he need to set up multiple groups rather than just setting up two flashes and showing them working? Nope. Total waste of time? Yes.
