There is a an increasing amount of concerned parents and teachers who would absolutely agree with you. As you say, we must question the system, use our voices, and push for change.
Good job! I hated school. Despite having quit my freshman year of high school, I graduated in the top 10% of my university class with a degree in psychology and a minor in special education. I worked in education trying to make it a better experience for other children than the experience I had. But when it came to my own children, I homeschooled them. They are doing great in university. One is a talented violinist and composer. The other is a Cal-Bridge Scholar, on track to go from getting a BS in Astrophysics, straight into a PhD program in physics. Parents believe send their children off to be educated is normal and healthy because it is the way they were raised. Too often I hear parents say they could never homeschool. They would go crazy spending that much time with their children. It makes me wonder why they had children to begin with?mi mean, would they not have had children if it weren’t for the free childcare? Homeschooling is a wonderful bonding experience for families. Everyone learns together. There is no better way of life.
Wish my parents could homeschool, they don’t have enough money to homeschool and work way to much to homeschool, I think I would be better off without school entirely
Articulate and insightful - it's hard for most people to see the difference between education and schooling, it can take a bit of time to get your head around what she's actually saying. She's spot on!
Your talk is so amazing. You prove that Self Directed Learning works. I want to set up SDL centres around the UK, Europe and then around the world. Bless you and thank you.
Yes I used to get bullied in middle school and no one did anything about it. It feels like the teachers only see us as a number in a grade book same goes for parents too
I feel this with everything in me. I will go to great lengths to protect my children from this system and get them out and help to transform it for everyone. Thank you for this talk!
School certainly destroyed me. When they stop teaching to the test, and facilitate what young humans are interested in, it offer apprenticeships, encourage trades like they do everything else, and are accepting of all, school as it is is doomed to fail.
Me.. Even I dropped during sophomore of my highschool now I'm an app developer and I have my own e business.. I'm 16 rn... Life is great without school.. And schooling shouldnt be outspoken as education... Education means bring out the talent and interests Whereas schooling means mugging up
The sad thing is how parents now trust a stranger more than their children. The stranger is the people in school. I had a teacher who wrongly accused me of stuff and I got in trouble even though I told my parents.
True, they've been through the same system. The school I go to will call CPS on your family if you miss 11 days of school without a doctors note (in a school year.)
In HS, I used to cut myself. As a 35 year old woman, I am finally acknowledging that school system sucks. This young lady is a genius. She is a 13 year old entrepreneur.
The pressure of school is getting harder and harder I don’t know why they just tell you what you are good at and you do that so the world could be way easier and better

Yea i hated school i am 23 years old now.and i see i dont need any of that stuff only those basic stuff, but still i was bullyed, always in stress from happy child i become depressed angry etc many things. Then i changed school, it become beter because my mom worked there but still, i hated it. HIGH school was night mare to me i barely finished it. When my mol askes me why dont you gp finish 4 years and go to college i answer its easy because is useless and it will make me more stressed and i will have no use of it, so no, no thank you. I rather work than go and study.
All my grades are A's and my stress level is through the roof, I can't take it anymore and every chance I get to be alone I spend it cutting my chest and legs to feel Atleast something. I've not gotten yelled at in a couple years because of my grades, but I'm burnt out and keep on going anymore. I have 5 tests (math, literature, art, construction technology and music) I need to do in 2 days and if I get yelled at by my parents at least once I'm flipping and killing myself as soon as I get the chance
@@qwertyuioplkmjnhbgvfcdxsza The system is poison, but you can fight against being forced to do anything. if you refuse, you will feel better. If you cannot refuse, refuse in your mind. This is what my friend does. He goes to school to make everyone happy, and there he emigrates to his own thoughts and life (e.g. smartphone under the desk, nap, etc.) :)
Not really, it’s because people have the wrong idea of what public schools real purpose is. It just a place to hold kids, so they don’t hang out at the mall, get into trouble and cause problems in the community and until their parents can pick them up after work, it’s not to educate kids. Kids who attain high academic success, is based on their own effort, schools do not really contribute to any of it.Not teachers fault, they just do as the higher ups tells them. Government schools is a much cheaper daycare then hiring private sitter. It’s free for those who don’t pay taxes.
To be fair, given where she and her family are from, I can understand why they place so much emphasis on formal education: it's one of the few guaranteed ways to either get out of or avoid poverty - and in a country like India, when you're poor, you're poor. Also, I feel like these alternative forms of schooling are available to only those who are rich in the first place. Peasant or working class children don't have much of a choice if their parents want them educated and that's if there's even a functioning school near them.
I 100% agree with you and I am very aware that I speak from a huge place of privilege. I'm very grateful that I have been blessed with these opportunities throughout my life and have had the parents that I do. The core problem resides with the system as a whole, and not in the individual. It is a systemic problem that runs layers upon layers deep that unfortunately will never fully be solved due to capitalism and greed amongst other things. I appreciate you listening, thank you
Wish the head of education would ACTUALLY LOOK AND LISTEN TO THESE FACTS AND TAKE ACTION JESUS IS IT THAT HARD LORD ALMIGHTY GIVE KIDS A BRAKE IM SO SICK OF SCHOOL.

I see that The concept of school is a correct one yeah its execution is beyond perfect but it insures minimal knowledge to children and a way to teach them how to think. But that can only be done by making the kid imbrace school and learning but unfortunately teachers fail to do that. People complain how school teaches you useless things or takes away your freedom. But what would you have done with that freedom? Also for the rubik's cube it can be taught in a 30min~45min lesson of it were to be taught in school so what you're learning in school has more volume and importance.
Sry sir but school doesn't teach how to think!!!! It teaches what to think!! AND rubick's cube it's a 5 year old finding out himself thru his curiosity and making new patters to reach goal... And ppl like you who can't see the truth even when they have eyes are the ones who are promoting poverty in a great way.. You are just employees who'll work hard to makes ends meet... School can teach you an algorithm, which won't be useful for anything but the cube. A child solving the problem on his own will figure out many rules that he can later use to solve more complex problems. If it is done with passion, he may remember for life. School can never substitute for that. Juwayria is my next Ken Robinson! :) True winner!
So is school the only place to learn about critical thinking? If you weigh the critical thinking and compare it the uncritical thinking you learn and pick up in school, I'm not really sure which one of them would win. I'm not sure about this, of course, but I don't think the answer is as obvious as your comment implies.
School and critical thinking? Most kids are yawning or scrolling Facebook under the desk. For critical thinking you need a lot of thinking and for that you need a lot of free undisturbed time! Without passion, instead of critical thinking, you think about the time remaining till the next bell
