Guy Clark was something of a songwriter's songwriter, well respected by top names in the music business. He certainly wrote and recorded some great songs, and many other artists covered his songs too. He was also a luthier, making high end acoustic guitars. Songwriters can get away with things more easily than poets, I would say. A songwriter can squeeze words into a line, even if there are too many syllables, and Bob Dylan once famously said, " I can make anything rhyme if I want to!"
