I was just diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. I'm 43 I was a heavy smoker and drinker and ate fast food and junk food constantly. When I went to the E.R. my blood pressure was 220 over 160 The paramedics thought I was doing meth! I took life for granted and now I thank God when I wake up in the morning! Your heart health is no joke! Take care of yourselves!

Wow I'm sorry for your loss. My father also had a heart attack last Friday, and fortunately he's still kicking and will probably be discharged today. He's smoked since before I was born and I'm 28 now. The Dr told him he'll NEVER be able to pickup a cigarette again. I just hope and pray my father has the will power to stop. He's 65yrs old I believe. The world would be a much better place if cigarettes were never invented...

@@mikemarshall4830 not true. Smoking damages the cardio vascular system, at night our bodies release cholesterol as it does ever time you light up.. this cholesterol fills the damage. I;m glad to that you shared your story and I'm also glad you are OK now. I'd like to share my story with your viewers if you don't mind. I had 3 heart attacks in one day back in December. I woke up at 4:00 am with chest pressure I thought was heart burn. I really felt like I needed to burp. I took 2 Alka-Seltzer and started walking around and even went outside for a smoke and to walk around to try and work up a burp. I started feeling better so went back to sleep. About 10 am the next morning I was eating a bagel and a glass of milk then the heart burn started again, then I was short of breath, then got dizzy and I was really scared. I knew something was wrong and I drove myself to the ER and they said my blood work showed I had suffered a heart attack. I was admitted for tests right away for the following day but before I could be tested the doctors and nursed came into my room at 5 am and asked if I was OK. I said I felt fine then about 2 minutes later I had my third heart attack. The doctor told me they needed to do something for me or they were afraid they would lose me. 2 hours later they completed surgery where they installed two stents in my heart. The reason I had heart attacks while at rest was because the blocked arteries were semi collapsed because of low blood flow from a slow heart rate. The plaque in your arteries is sticky and made my arteries stay closed keeping oxygen from getting to my heart. The second and third attacks really hurt and scared the hell out of me. Before having the heart attacks I had been feeling weak and everything I did felt like a chore. I chocked it up to getting older, I'm 62. People, pay attention to your body, don't smoke and if you do, quit. See your doctor regularly and exercise as much as you can. I couldn't believe it was happening to me, not me, heart attacks happen to other people, not me. Thanks for reading my comment.

Back in 1985 my dad, a chain smoker had a pain in his left shoulder for months. He went to the doctor for it and was given pain pills. I remember him putting an ice pack on it and wearing a sling at one point. He worked nights and before he went to work that afternoon the pain got worst and he broke out in a sweat. He ended up going anyway and around midnight the pain got bad and he was sick to his stomach and sweating. He drove himself to the VA hospital and when he walked into the lobby he collapsed. He had a massive heart attack. They scheduled the surgery and he went home with a bottle of nitroglycerin. He had to use it several times over the next month. He had quadruple bypass by the famous heart surgeon Dr Debakey. He actually walked the Baylor College students through it from what I hear. He made a full recovery and didn't even need to take any meds till the late 90s. Got had to get stents put in a few times. He lived till 2015 when his heart finally gave out at age 80.

Very similar story to mine, upper back pain for a day, woke up to get ready for work, sat up, got dizzy, then just felt like my entire insides dropped like a roller coaster. I realized something was wrong, told my wife to drive me to the hospital (4 min away), started feeling nauseated when getting in the car, vomited as we pulled into the hospital, they rushed me in and got me hooked up and said you are having a STEMI (affectionately known as the widowmaker). They transported me to the next hospital lights and siren, I went directly into the cath lab and 15 min later had a stent in place. I had a 100% blockage of my LAD artery. Had I delayed any, it would have been a different outcome. I was 54, and my father passed away at 54 of a heart attack.

Thanks for telling your story Matt. I was admitted in the hospital ten years ago as I suspected I was having an MI. My grandfather had several from his thirties to sixty-three when he had a massive heart attack and passed. He never smoked, drank and was not overweight. My mother had a massive heart attack in the early nineties and lived for several more years. For the past two weeks I've been having noticeable chest pains and waking up where my sheets were drenched. I moved up my cardiologist and they were NOT happy I didn't go to ER. I got really scared because I didn't feel right and was somewhat lightheaded and both arms went numb and my finger tips were tingly. Then, the right side of my face went numb as I had been taking nitro on/off and symptoms weren't really abating. I have never smoked or done drugs but I do drink heavily and am a good thirty to forty pounds overweight. I'm hypothyroid for twenty-five years now. The EKG was unremarkable and they didn't draw blood for Triponin. I've been through two flat down stress tests and the Doctor had me go in for a heart catherization the next day. The procedure indicated no calcification and my arteries were clear thank God.

Before my heart surgery for a single bypass, the only symptoms I had was slight chest pressure, no hard pain, but pain in my neck and jaw. My wife, a retired Nurse insisted I get checked out so we went to the ER around 9:PM. Resting, they didn't see any major problem but due to having a 40% blockage years earlier, they admitted me for testing.Long story short, there was some damage near where the blockage was and they couldn't get a stent in so I had a bypass, robotically. Everything was fine after that for five months, then a three week bout with AFIB, six months later in Sept. of 2019 AFIB started again and won't go away, one cardioversion did not work so I will have an ablation in the next month..!!

It didn't happen to me over a period of 3 days like you, but just 30 minutes later i felt dizzy for 15 seconds & the next thing I realised was cold sweat all over my face. I immediately took 2 aspirin tablets (325mg each), and 2 more after an hour. I'd read in some first aid manual about giving aspirin to someone having a heart attack. Aspirin is a blood thinner & quickly restores blood supply through the blocked artery. After 2 hours my discomfort greatly reduced, but I immediately took a cab to the hospital which was only 5 minutes away. They took several tests immediately. ECG was normal. How we know that is he was found in the water 4 days later and the autopsie showed two massive blockages in the left artery descending, ( a widowmaker heart attack) but no water had been inhaled. The doctor had never told him he needed to take it easy for awhile after the stints (one had moved incidentally) released him to his physically demanding job a week after surgery, and my brother saw it like this, if I can go back to work that must mean I can go back to active outdoors lifestyle as well. Unfortunately, some people don't take something seriously if their doctor doesn't. They would not even let the word "heart attack" be spoken in the room. So to a degree the denial was aided and abetted by the doctor. My brother not thinking for himself can't be denied either. You are taking serious risks to exhert yourself by kayaking upstream a short while after a two stint heart attack. You are pushing serious odds.

So glad you are well. I'm a Type 2 diabetic and have had strange sensations/pains for months and went to a cardiologist for all the testing but everything is fine. I have the same pains in my upper back, near my neck and also my left shoulder, my entire left arm down to my fingers, and my right arm sometimes, my jaw, weakness and exhaustion. It happens at rest as well as when exercising. Went to the ER and the dr said my blood sugar was high, no heart issues. He said it might be neurological. I think a CAT scan might be a good idea in my case. Just thought I'd mention all this for any other diabetics watching.

To all youngsters having breathlessness and chest pain, shoulder pain .
Get lipid profile and BP checked immediately. Or get a full heart check up done. Consult a doc with results.
For those who had very minor symptoms: Check your lipid profile every 6 months. and get your blood pressure checked every month atleast.
Your LDL should be less than 100 mg/dl.
Your Triglycerides should be less than 150 mg/dl.
And lastly, your BP should not be above 130. Preferably below 120.
If these three are okay, you are doing okay for now. And you may not have a heart attack anytime soon.
Include 40mins of exercise, consume fish oil everyday and maintain lipid profile at optimum and there will not be heart attack as long as you do that.
If your lipid profile is off, switch to plant based diet. Quit oils, sugars and fried foods, and start exercising.
If your Blood pressure is above 130 reduce salt, reduce your cholesterol and stay active and stress free.

This is misleading though. Some heart disease comes down to genetics. It’s possible for a person to be otherwise healthy, have normal cholestrol and blood pressure readings and still have a heart attack. I understand what your saying because the things you mention definitely increase the risk of heart disease and the advice you give to help lower your risk is great but saying there will be no heart attack as long as you do those things is not always true.

That's the problem using Cholesterol to predict heart attacks doesn't work I know several who had them, and others who had high numbers never had a heart attack. They do offer a CAC heart score use a CT scanner look at your heart some say doesn't work who knows 150 bux better then nothing. Insurance won't pay for stress test unless you have chest pain even then mine didn't pay.

My grandfather died a couple of years ago, from a heart attack, we found him lying in the bathroom.
He was a hard working, proud man, and i think this had something to do with the fact at the autopsy he had three scars on his heart, from three previous heart attacks! And he never told us about them!!
He must have just shrugged them off and got back to work so he wouldn't let anybody down.
He worked past retirement age and died about 6 months after his retirement.
There must be other people who have suffered privately and not wanted to worry family and those around them, you should tell everyone, 'especially, obviously a doctor at the very least.

November 2017 I was cutting limbs off a dead pecan tree with a chainsaw. I got short winded and dizzy. I put the chainsaw on the trailer that was attached to my mower. I headed to the house and apparently passed out and woke up in some hedges, no pain, nothing. One week later I had three bypasses and a pig valve to replace my aortic valve. I had extreme aortic stenosis. My valve which should open between the size of a quarter to a half a dollar was only opening a 1/2 of a centimeter. I knew I was having problems and had been taking two 325 MG aspirin one at night and one late morning. I chewed the aspirin. The surgeon said this was the only reason I was still living. He referred to my passing out as "sudden death". It was quiet pleasant, but I'm one of those weird people who believe in reincarnation. Go figure.

I had a heart attack 18 days ago now. I ride a bike in a bike club where we go hard for 30 - 40 miles daily. This day was a 42 mile ride and into the wind on the way back. I rode as hard as I could most of the time and when I finished, I felt like I had "hit the wall". I got to my car and felt a tightness across my chest. It was a weird feeling I had never experienced so I KNEW something was wrong. I drove home, took a shower and drove myself to the ER. They hooked me up to an EKG and determined I had a heart attack. Then they found the earliest cath lab to get into and went there in the ambulance. They were feeding me nitroglycerin whenever I said I had pain. The put in a stent at the "widowmaker" and I felt ok that following day. I am so glad I went early as the damage to my heart appears minimal. But I am fearful to get another heart attack so I've changed my diet, take my meds and do a daily walk for now. I monitor my BP several times a day ($32 monitor). Cardiac rehab starts in 4 days. I amazed that this guy waited SO LONG - my God - he had to be having damage to the heart that whole time!!

Thanks for sharing your story, because I’m sure it’s not easy to relive those memories, but as a medical professional I feel I should point out one thing, that while there are many factors which may lead to a heart attack, there are some people that are perfectly healthy who are genetically predisposed to having a either or heart attack or heart disease, regardless of how healthy their lifestyle is. In general it’s best to keep yourself as healthy as possible of course, I’m being a hypocrite because I smoke, and I’m well aware of the risks involved, but it’s literally my only vice, because I can’t drink coffee or alcohol, I refuse to do drugs that any kind, and when my anxiety is acting up smoking is the best way to call myself down. I am working on various ways to quit smoking, as I approach 50 in a few months I’m fully aware of how great a risk I’m putting myself at, but it is most of you know, quitting any advice is exceptionally difficult, but I’m sure I can do it. Anyways, sorry for going off track, I just wanted to say that please do not be surprised if someone you know or yourself has a heart attack despite being absolutely perfectly healthy with no risk factors, because it does happen. That being said, the best thing we can always do is eliminate as much of the risk factors as possible, try to exercise regularly, and just try to stay in the best health possible. I know society brainwashes everyone into believing we have to have the perfect body, which is utter nonsense because how many people do you know that have a perfect body in real life?, Not many right? As long as you’re eating healthy, try your best to exercise when able, and frankly the rest is in gods hands. The one thing I find cruel and strange is everybody’s need to blame something or somebody whenever a serious illness or a heart attack takes place, but people, the reality is that it can happen to anybody at any time in their life, nobody is to blame, that’s just life, so just except that, move on with your life. One lesson I’ve learned, you can tell somebody every single factor in the world, but if they don’t want to change they are not going to, and nothing you can say will make them change their mind until they have a heart attack, and even then I’ve seen my patients completely ignore every I think they’re told. It’s unfortunately part of human nature to not want to change, even if it means putting our lives at risk, so I don’t get frustrated if you can’t get the person you love to illuminate the risks of heart attack or stroke, once you said your piece there’s nothing more you can say, just worry about yourself and let The rest of the world take care of itself. Again, thanks so much for sharing your video, and I wish you a very long happy and healthy life!

Great video, thank you for sharing your experience! I had almost the exact thing happen after an argument with my wife - the pain, the breathing, the soreness for days afterwards. About a week and a half later, I mentioned it to my doctor and they did an EKG (I think that's what it was) and confirmed that I had recently experienced a "light cardiac event" of some kind. It was rather shocking news, since as you point out, we think of heart attacks as "Ack!" grabbing the chest and fainting or whatnot.
