My buddy got one of these for free too. Original motor and everything. He ended up going to harbor freight and purchased their strongest replacement motor for this snapper. After his installation, he didn't get more speed out of it (because of the gearing), he ended up getting more power. He uses this mower, a regular push mower, edger, weed eater for his everyday landscaping business.
They’re solid! I also ended up swapping the motor on mine, I just put on an old 19hp briggs opposed twin that I had laying around. it still works great.
Snapper videos explaining what you are thinking and why are priceless. I have two my late father left behind and I just keep tweaking and piddling until they run. To hell with a zero turn
Thanks! I agree, They really are great mowers, I actually still have that one, I’ll include some video of what it looks like now in my next video fixing mowers, which I should hopefully get to finish this week.
I appreciate the positive feedback! more videos are to come soon, one being me doing an unconventional engine swap on the snapper that should be out in a week or so!
Man, that's awesome, Kyle! What a deal for free. That oil was sludgy from water, but the moisture should burn out of there with an hour or two run time, hopefully. Looks like a winner after you get those dogs lubed up on the recoil. Thanks for sharing this (and it was mighty thoughtful of you to show the model #) That Craftsman looks like a winner too with a good resale value (I already know you can fix it) Have a good week, man!
