    ko-fi.com/hatt... In 2018, my husband and I went on a short tour of Canada for our honeymoon. We visited Quebec City, Halifax, Cape Breton, and, the whole reason we even thought of the trip, Prince Edward Island. We're big fans of all things Anne Shirley, from the books to the movies to the Netflix series. It was just our anniversary, so I thought you might be interested in a tour of the real-life Green Gables.
    Inspired by Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic book series, Green Gables has been lovingly recreated in Cavendish, the town that inspired Avonlea. After walking through the Haunted Forest (just like Anne and Diana Barry) from the L.M. Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site, the Cuthbert's charming house sits on a hill between the barn and Lover's Lane.
    Details from Anne of Green Gables are placed throughout the home. Were you able to spot:
    -Anne's Beloved Puffed Sleeved Dress
    -The carpet bag Anne brought with her on the train to Green Gables
    -The slate she broke over Gilbert Blythe's head
    -Marilla's amethyst brooch
    -Matthew's hat and cane
    -The raspberry cordial
    Let me know in the comments if you spotted any other details! And let me know if you'd be interested in a video where I talk about Anne's Puffed Sleeved Dress and possibly try to recreate it!
    Thank you for indulging me in my trip down memory lane! We should be back to sewing content in my next video!

    I LOVE Anne of Green Gables. Growing up I first found it on PBS and would have to watch it on a tiny 10inch tv that was on our refrigerator. I would have to stand on a stool to watch the hours n hours of it, but I did! Every time it was on. LoL
    I have read all the books n watched the other shows but that PBS will always hold a special place in my heart.

      I used to watch the original 1985 movies on the Disney Channel! I have the DVDs now and I love them! I really love Anne with an E on Netflix and we recently watched the movie from the 30s. We...aren't a fan of the new PBS movies, but we watched all three. I hope you liked the walkthrough and all the nods to the books in it!

      I did! I had no idea they even had a house set up like that. The new movies were ok but I did like Anne with an E better. I think it was so unfair that it was cancelled like it was!

    Thank you for taking us along on your tour. I've long wondered what the house was like, and well, it's very like I imagined it would be, only there's more color. Who knew that Marilla went in for deep cranberry colors.
    Having sat on horsehair sofas, I can vouch that they enforce perching, feet flat on the floor, and a straight back, or you will slide right off. Also had a tiny shock: in the pantry there's a wooden chair with a perforated "leather" seat, one of those that could be easily nailed into the squarish hole created when the original caning had gone out. I remember one from childhood. The seat was what is called serviceable, rather than elegant, and like this chair, found its way to a back room. What a host of memories your video brought up, things I hadn't recalled for many decades. Thank you!

      My Wife was Born in PEI, Well she introduced me to the TV Series Years ago, we went to PEI in 2006 & 2014 and are going again this Summer.
      She has the Books & everything, SO I did some Research on the Series & LM Montgomery. Huge spoiler here BUT most of the TV series
      wasn't Film in PEI it was filmed in Ontario. this is NOT the Actual Anne of Green Gables House. yeah i know we were disappointed also.

    I love the double set of stairs. I've always wanted a house with two sets of stairs. My friend Ingrid has a front & back set in her house growing up, and so did a Doctor that my parents were friends with (he also had a huge living room with vaulted ceilings, which allowed from the most amazing Christmas Trees!). I'm jealous of your trip, because I've always wanted to go to Cape Breton. Thanks for sharing your tour of GG with us.

      Double sets of stairs always felt super luxurious to me! I remember being quite little and playing between two staircases at my grandparents' anniversary party. I don't remember where it was, but it felt fancy! If you ever get to go to Cape Breton, I would recommend it! We drove along the Cabot Trail which was wonderful and visiting the Alexander Graham Bell museum was one of the highlights of our trip!

    Thank you for taking us on a tour.
    How beautifully they have preserved/restored things.
    Is it all original to the house?
    &/or all from the same era?
    (Was there a docent,or literature? )

    • @HattoHem
      @HattoHem  3 года назад +4

      I'm pretty sure the house is inspired by the books, not the other way around. I'm not sure when it was built, but I'm fairly certain that it was after the books were published. We did tour actual homes that LM Montgomery lived in though! They were well preserved and many things were things she had owned or similar!

    • @TracyLynnAP
      @TracyLynnAP 3 года назад +5

      The home was built by the MacNeil family who were relatives, in the 1830's .. The home she grew up in is ruins on this property in the National Historic Site park. When she wrote about Anne Shirley she wrote about her living in this house. The things she described are still in the home as Parks Canada has owned it since the since the mid 1930's and has been keeping it preserved. The CBC has had some good programs on it throughout the years
