Petit coup d'oeil sur le centre ville (El Centro) de la ville mexicaine de Cancun.(Qui signifie en Maya « Nid de serpent »)
Le centre urbain de la ville de Cancun (ne pas confondre avec la zone hôtelière, la station balnéaire extrêmement touristique, construite sur une péninsule artificiellement formée dans les années ‘70).
Située à 45 minutes de la station balnéaire très populaire « Playa de Carmen » et « Riviera Maya » facilement accessible en autobus pour $ 3 can.et non-loin du très connu site archéologique « Chichen Iza » où on retrouve une des 7 merveilles du monde moderne : La pyramide maya, située à 1:15 de Cancun.
Historiquement, Cancún était située sur une route commerciale des Mayas en direction du Honduras actuel. Selon des recherches archéologiques, plusieurs sites de l'île ont été habités lors de l'époque pré-colombienne, jusqu'au 15e siècle. La zone fut découverte par les Espagnols, par Francisco Hernández de Córdoba en 1517.
Dans les années 1960, seule une centaine de pêcheurs vivent encore sur le site. C'est à cette époque que le gouvernement mexicain décide de construire une station balnéaire sur la côte du Quintana Roo pour faire face au développement de l'industrie touristique.

A quick look at the city center (El Centro) of the Mexican city of Cancun. (Which means “Snake’s Nest” in Mayan)
The urban center of the city of Cancun (not to be confused with the hotel zone, the extremely touristy seaside resort, built on an artificially formed peninsula in the 1970s).
Located 45 minutes from the very popular seaside resort “Playa de Carmen” and “Riviera Maya” easily accessible by bus for $3 can. and not far from the very famous archaeological site “Chichen Iza” where we find one of the 7 wonders of modern world: The Mayan pyramid, located 1:15 from Cancun.
Historically, Cancun was located on a Mayan trade route to modern-day Honduras. According to archaeological research, several sites on the island were inhabited during pre-Columbian times, until the 15th century. The area was discovered by the Spanish, by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba in 1517.
In the 1960s, only around a hundred fishermen still lived on the site. It was at this time that the Mexican government decided to build a seaside resort on the coast of Quintana Roo to cope with the development of the tourist industry.
