I personally really like sf6’s soundtrack, but I can completely understand why it can be underwhelming within the match. I don’t tend to care for in-match music unless it’s taking attention away from the gameplay which is extremely rare, so I can see the perspective of someone who does care about in-match music.

Sf6 music is ok if you're casually listening. But in a match, it is painfully monotonous. For me, it often plays a negligible role in the match; It may as well not even be there. As an FGC player, I'm currently juggling sf6 and guilty gear, and if there's an aspect I can adamantly attest guilty gear does correctly is the music. It exemplifies music adhering to the atmosphere spawned by the turbulence of a match. To offer a smattering, music such as holy orders, writhe in pain, communication, and lily of steel, teeter fittingly on the fine line between the music being a distraction or a perceptible nicety in a match. A commendable portion of the music in guilty gear entices me to listen to it outside of the game, but is never a hindrance or distraction for me during a match. I believe that's where sf6 fails. The music tends to dissent from the aura a match typically exudes, and is often not noteworthy enough for me to listen to it at my own behest.
PS: I apologize if my English is subpar, as it is my 4th language.

JP’s Theme The Plunderer is my favorite character specific theme and feels appropriate for the current boss of the game. It gives off an air of menace and power that fits his erudite style,m. I especially love when it plays right before his fight in World Tour mode. Personally I like them all but I feel people don’t give enough credit to the good tracks like The Plunderer.

I'm very mixed on JP's theme, I hate the "nheeeec" sound that starts the music, the piano and the melody is very cool, but that sound makes it so bad in my ears

Another problem about going the chill, lo-fi route with this ost is that the songs are naturally more quiet then the average FG ost, which makes the songs even harder to notice and remember.

Agree, it's also a shame that we can't use old music in SF6, I bet almost nobody would use the new tracks.
While you were talking about that UNI theme I remembered how much I liked Melty Blood's Resurrection of Old Blood and Beat from Melty Blood. Absolute bangers.

Idk, I personally feel like the game has some really nice tracks that complement the dynamic changes very well. I don't think the Bathers Beach theme is necessarily the best example to be using since... its based off a literal chill spot in Jamaica. But I will agree that quite a few of these tracks lack energy (Luke, Guile, etc.), but where they lack energy I feel they make up for it where they need to in terms of what characters theme it is. I do hate how everyone who says that "SF6 music is the best" typically just use Jamie's theme as an example and nothing else, where yea... its Jamie's theme. It is godlike, But to go back to Guile, his theme definitely has a lack of energy but feels much more focused. Guile is a slow, reaction based Zoner who I feel fits a more calm and focused based theme like his new one then one of high energy. On the opposite spectrum however, there's Blanka who is loud, ferocious and in your face, which I think is translated very well in his theme, literally even boasting some Brazilian sounding chants in it. I won't sit here and say they are all bangers, but rarely is any game. Above all however I feel like a majority of these themes fit the characters that they belong to rather than just a fight in general, which for a game that will only play character themes of the ones who are currently in-game, which differs from most titles, I feel this does a strong job on selling me on the characters. IMO

Great video! Unfortunately I find sf6 music boring as well. How the hell do you take a franchise known for its classic character themes and just not do anything to continue that legacy?? Also you are objectively wrong, the only good theme is Jamie's.

  • @FrMZTsarmiral

Agree 100%, the songs themselves are not bad but they just don't feel intense enough for a fighting game , the instruments and sounds aren't exotic enough either like Samurai Spirits to make it fit a more slow-paced affair.
My biggest issue is that they all sound like Round 1 songs at best, by that I mean that they should escalate way more in intensity the further the match goes on. I think that would have redeemed the tracks.
Overall the OST just disappoints me all around, really wanted Capcom to go all in and add unique post-round victory themes for each character like in Vampire/Darkstalkers or add unique rivalry themes for some characters.

I didn’t play much SF6. Modern Street Fighter doesn’t seem to be for me. BUT I always liked Zangief and SF6’s R.E.D. gets me absolutely pumped. It found its way on many of my playlists and whenever I end up playing a few casual matches you bet I do it as Zangief blasting R.E.D.
On a different note, I love the walk in music especially at live events when the whole crowd goes "YEAH! YEAH!"

Well personally I don't think the tracks themselves are bad I'm mean Capcom for the most part are basically broaden their ideals by giving each character their respective themes base on their ethnicity & personality. Such as an example Dee Jay with his theme being a Jamaican reggae style vibes & Manon who's theme is base on her being a French fashion model on a runway.
The same could be said for some of the stages as well like Blanka's stage where it has that Brazilian jungle beat to it & JP's stage which is Nayshal, it even played out in that Yor vs Chun-li animated trailer just recently.
And look I get it on what you mean but not often are all fighting games have to be fit in the genre of having bopping dancing themes like in for other games such Tekken & Killer Instinct. Hell the themes for some of the characters prior don't exactly mesh with the character themselves say as an example Dudley who is a British gentleman pugilist and you think his theme would be a somthing classical & sophisticated but instead boping techno rhythm where the singer in it yells "GET ON THE DANCE FLOOR!" It's a catchy fun theme but doesn't exactly fits the character as whole unlike what we got now which makes more sense.

Me personally i really like some of the music of sf6, it's serves as a constant warning of how I'm playing, I play random select so I listen to most of the themes in game, chun-li theme tells me to be patient yet aggressive, listening to zangief theme while playing against him remibds me that he is dangerous and i need to be aware of his explosiveness, Jamie's theme gets me pumped yet focused etc etc. and most because I have headphones on always, i would listen to the bass lines because they do things for me that not many other fighting game music does. It's got some tracks i do dislike tho, ones like the beach stage or guile's and aki's theme. I would also like to mention on chun-li's theme specifically because it's my favourite chun-li theme as i heavy dislike china vox(third strike) and her other themes

I'm glad someone else brought this up. I too was a huge fan of Lukes theme in V. Even have it downloaded. But in 6 its such a sleeper. Like if SF was an adventure game, his V theme would be like his battle theme and his 6 theme would be like what plays while u pause the game lol. Its so low energy, it reminds me of elevator music. The theme I do like in SF6 would be the french stage theme. Only reason I exclusively play the game there

There is a contrarian part of me that rebels against the idea that the music for a fighting game should necessarily match the energy of the combat. I think about John Woo putting classical music over slow-mo gunfights, or the plin-plin-plon of the final boss fight of Dark Souls. I love the Killer Instinct soundtrack (Mick Gordon is like a cheat code for crazy sounding music), and Guilty Gear's aggressive rock sound, but I also really like what Granblue Fantasy Versus is doing. I picked up Rising and there's a lot of ballad-pop stuff going on in that soundtrack, and it brings a cinematic quality to the whole package that really fits the vibe for me.
I do have to agree that unfortunately, a lot of SF6's soundtrack feels a little flaccid.

Yo the the description tho but agree with strives music
It's incredible when I'm outside but playing the game it's mediocre
Songs are too long and music imo doesn't have the pump for the actual match, I think it could be because strives songs have lyrics and they focus on the singing rather than the instruments

If i can offer my two cents I like the sf6 ost quite a bit atleast from the perspective of the World Tour mode (a mode a dont especially care for myself, but i respect) In the wt mode pretty much all of the masters are chill masters of their craft who are there to help you train and get better. Ryu's theme is one of my favorites because it really sounds like a karate master hitting new york and showing the new generation what a seasoned fighter can really do. Its not exactly a do or die scenario, nor is it really scoring Ryu's eternal pursuit of strength- but it's a fun track that accentuates a lot of big hits and the explosive nature of 6.
That being said i have a play list specifically for playing ranked lol

The annoying part to me is that it makes perfect sense to shift towards hip hop music for Street Fighter, since they are... Well. Street fighting. But it just doesn't work for me. I'm not into the genre admittedly, rock and metal IS more my thing so SFV barely had to try to win me over. But I've been proven wrong before when it comes to writing off or dismissing entire genres, so... Guess we'll have to wait and see how they expand on the music over time. Do they add new composers? New genres? Time will show...

I love the gameplay but, SF6 has too much cordiality. Everbody is chill, everybody is complimenting the loser side instead of the usual taunt or mockery fighting games are used to do. Every interaction, except for juri's, has low energy on them and this is clearly reflected in the game sound tracks. This game feels like it's contantly telling you that "the important thing is not to win but to participate".

I'm also of the opinion SF6s soundtrack is a little lethargic sounding. The thing that annoys me about it a bit more than that is that there's an urban flavour that it's bringing in but it feels pretty dated imo, like 5 years out of date. 3rd Strike was also bringing in that urban vibe with its mix of DnB, hip hop and house, but it also felt contemporary for its time, not so much SF6. A big me problem though lol, and there's def some tracks I enjoy, but for me, that's how it's missed the mark

SF6's aesthetics sucks in general to me. It doesn't matter that the game looks good the aesthetics are just either bad or not for everyone. I said a long while ago SF6 is like a Korean rap enthusiasts' perspective on what a Street Fighter game should be and not the classical Capcom.
In the same way they made Ed's theme a literally awful (ACTUAL) rap song by Wiz Kalifa. Like Capcom just got tired of trying to make actual themes. And I feel like the same vibe went in SF6's music. It's all done through e-snyths and snares. All very trap-esque.
It's not bad. It's definitely different. For that feeling I look at Cammy theme the most. No more wub wubs. No more strong piano tones. It just sounds like a beat someone in trap mixed up in their spare time. It does sort of embody stealth and espionage but not Cammy's stealth and espionage

    • @strepsilsaregood4u
      @strepsilsaregood4u Год назад

I get what you mean. For me, Cammy's SF4 theme is the quintessential Cammy theme - it sounded both emotional and powerful (I'm not a music expert so bare with me) as if it represented Cammy slowly letting go of her past and embracing the future, plus it's just a blood-pumping song in general and that's always a plus. Cammy's SF6 theme isn't bad by any means but nothing about it screams Cammy, if that makes sense.
