The Mamas & the Papas were a great folk rock group in the 60's. I had their records. They were known for their smooth harmonies. They had lots of great hits such as "Monday, Monday", "Words Of Love", "Dancing In The Street", "Look Through My Window", "Creeque Alley", "Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon)", "Safe In My Garden", "I Saw Her Again" etc. Mama Cass Elliot went solo & had a big hit with "Dream A Little Dream Of Me".
Though this was a cover version of a song performed by a black girl group, John's arrangement of the amazing M&P harmonies made this the absolute best version ever.
The band treated Cass Elliott like a piece of 💩, and constantly made fun of her weight. One of their song lyrics even says 'and no one's getting fat except Mama Cass' ! How disrespectful. At one point the band were in dire straits, down on their luck, and homeless with no money, so Cass let them stay in her home, and they allowed her back into the group, which was something she desperately wanted. In my opinion she had far and away the better voice of the 2 females. She also wrote songs, my favourite being John Denver's 'Leaving On A Jet Plane'

Mama Cass used to get frustrated because she had a booming voice stronger than the other three and had to tone it down most of the time.
