    I think its shocking that so many people dont know or appreciate what Diamanda has done for music,that she is a once in a 100 year talent, and that many of the movies you watch that have the her voice in them. Not to mention she's brilliant,bilingual, an innovator, intellectually thrashing, spiritually wise, political before it was "cool" to be so, and shes gorgeous to top it off. Simply breathtaking. And I guarantee any musician or intellectual worth his weight in salt would agree. Re-listen.

      Just because you no longer see the processions and the fires , do you think that the Inquisition has disappeared ?
      Of course this woman , like others before her , of course , will never be promoted or given 1/100 th of the exposure , say , Mariah Carey gets .
      And I guess we both know exacty why that is .

      "Skotoseme" in greek "Σκότωσέ με" means = Kill me.
      Comes from the verb "σκοτώνω" = kill, and "με" which is "εμένα" = me.
      The greek etymology of "Σκοτώνω" comes from the word "σκότος" which is "the darkness" so it means "Throw someone into the dark, in a condition without light οr metaphorically in the under world."

    I first heard her when I bought the Plague Mass CD. I bought it without having heard her before. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting and was crying by the end. Her brother had died of AIDS and that's what the entire Plague Mass was about. It was disturbing and touching all at the same time. Difficult to listen to but so needed at the time. Diamanda was also part of ACT UP, a militant activist group that demanded AIDS research from the government in the late 80s, early 90s. She's an amazing lady and not somebody anyone would ever wanna fuck with. I saw her on this tour with John Paul Jones, and I will never forget it. She got a standing ovation at the end and took a bow, but no encore. She had said what she had to say already.

      I saw her perform (is that the right term?) twice in San Francisco in 1990 or 91. Both times she was terrifying and mesmerizing. Once in a church in the Mission. I seem to remember her up on a cross. I could be hallucinating this memory, she has that effect. Another at a concert hall she was covered in blood(or a facsimile?) singing with a banshee wail of an 8 octave range. Unbelievable presence on stage!!!!

      Rain Bow Primero que todo es una canción, tiene una letra (que debería ser buena) ya luego es arte, lo que me j*** es que usen la palabra arte y no explican por qué lo es, como si fuese una ofensa preguntarles. .. eso deja muy mal parados a los fans, una cosa es que rompa los esquemas, otra muy distinta que todo lo que haga se conjugue como arte.

      @sandercohenbird define singing then :)

    • @deniseshahark
      @deniseshahark 4 года назад +5

      @sandercohenbird I get your point, but still, if you randomly press the piano keys, and then go over the same keys the second time in the same order - is it playing the piano? I mean, this time it's not a random "key-pressing" anymore, as there's certain composition involved
      I mean, when she records a song and then performs it live - she stays in the realm of the recorded composition, despite adding a few additional screams here and there, if that makes sense
      So I would call it singing, not a traditional academic one, but anyway
      For example, death growls and screams that are used in metal music are considered vocal techniques, a different type of singing, again, not at all an academic type
      Does it make one better than the other? I don't think so, as it feels like comparing breakdance and ballet
      Also, Diamanda has incredible control over her voice, she knows exactly what she can do with it, and she always delivers; that's exactly what makes her a great singer in my opinion

    Holy sh*t, someone put this on HERE!!! Seen her on many occasions from THIS tour to her solo jazz and blues to operatic performance art. She is THE greatest living live artist performing today. Truthfully speaking the broadcast audio here is very poor, I saw the tour and it was a mindf*ck, just beyond description...incredible.

    Gente original.
    Ella es una artista de vanguardia y original, ha trabajado con muchos compositores avant garde entre ellos Xenakis , además de políglota, tiene la cualidad de crear sonidos y los sonidos mas terroríficos y de ultratumba prestó su voz para la película Dracula de Coppola y algunos de sus trabajos son experimentales buscando nuevas ideas que algunos ineptos no la entienden por aquí..

      ***** No te pregunte si te gustaba o no pero la impresión es fuerte es verdad pero debemos ser tolerantes ante cualquier manifestación artística digna de ser escuchada u observada desde una perspectiva artística, finalmente siempre hay algo que se quiere transmitir en este caso es miedo, espanto, lo repulsivo. .. manifestaciones humanas que nos causan una fuerte impresión. Saludos.

      He makes her vocals as Hendrix guitar solo more accessible. But the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate what she brings. She doesn't always perform in this "mode."

    God's Teeth! 90% of these comments are so puerile. If you don't 'like' it, so what? It's doing 'something else' - and you're not on the channel. Rejoice, go home and shut up.
    This is an amazing collaboration, a great cocophany of God-scaring noise and such fun - if you know how to listen to things other than radio bilge.It's time JPJ & DG did another collaboration to truly ROCK our world!
