I think its shocking that so many people dont know or appreciate what Diamanda has done for music, that she is a once in a 100 year talent, and that many of the movies you watch that have the her voice in them. Not to mention she's brilliant, bilingual, an innovator, intellectually thrashing, spiritually wise, political before it was "cool" to be so, and shes gorgeous to top it off. Simply breathtaking. And I guarantee any musician or intellectual worth his weight in salt would agree. Re-listen.

"Skotoseme" in greek "Σκότωσέ με" means = Kill me. Comes from the verb "σκοτώνω" = kill, and "με" which is "εμένα" = me. The greek etymology of "Σκοτώνω" comes from the word "σκότος" which is "the darkness" so it means "Throw someone into the dark, in a condition without light οr metaphorically in the under world."
For all of the rest who dont speak greek..ITS DIAMONDA GALAS AND JOHN PAUL JONES FROM LED ZEPPLIN...and HE ASKED HER TO COLLABORATE on this ALBUM not just one song.
DollFishu Her range has been purported to be from three and a half to eight octaves, although I would scale toward the former, and she can combine two octaves at once.
I never thought I would find music in something like that . Really. But I love it. The energy and passion she is putting into this and the driving rhythm is really captivating. She is revealing something about herself that is quite dark I think. If this were prose we would be reading it with our jaws open.
This is underappreciated...even among those who like music off the beaten path. It gives me the chills. And this may be the single best sounding live performance on a talk show of all time. Added bonus that it's on an apparently 12 year old Jon Stewarts's show.
I first heard her when I bought the Plague Mass CD. I bought it without having heard her before. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting and was crying by the end. Her brother had died of AIDS and that's what the entire Plague Mass was about. It was disturbing and touching all at the same time. Difficult to listen to but so needed at the time. Diamanda was also part of ACT UP, a militant activist group that demanded AIDS research from the government in the late 80s, early 90s. She's an amazing lady and not somebody anyone would ever wanna fuck with. I saw her on this tour with John Paul Jones, and I will never forget it. She got a standing ovation at the end and took a bow, but no encore. She had said what she had to say already.
I love how she goes from singing in Greek at high speed, then next song, she goes into this southern drawl, like she's channelling Elvis' evil twin sister! If you'd heard her introduced as a Greek artist, you'd have been quite surprised.
I've just checked out her (I think) 2nd album out of curiosity before and it was something way beyond what I had heard up to that point, but in more ways than one. I never thought that anything even remotely like that would ever even be mentioned in the same sentence as John Paul Jones.
I saw her perform (is that the right term?) twice in San Francisco in 1990 or 91. Both times she was terrifying and mesmerizing. Once in a church in the Mission. I seem to remember her up on a cross. I could be hallucinating this memory, she has that effect. Another at a concert hall she was covered in blood(or a facsimile?) singing with a banshee wail of an 8 octave range. Unbelievable presence on stage!!!!

GREAT with John Paul... HAPPY (60th) BIRTHDAY, DIAMANDA!!! (born 29 August 1955)
Wow, what a talent. I had to listen several times. Not sure I like it that much as something to listen to but I still find it fascinating. I found another she sings that is fantastic - Gloomy Sunday.

Crazy show. lacking experience, Jon didn't know quite what to do with himself. :) My how the years have changed all of them. except the incredible Galas.
Wow this is awesome. Firts time ive seen a video of her with a band, most are her with her piano. It must be amazing to see and hear her live. took me a long time to get into her music, but when it clicked there is now way back, hehe.
Holy sh*t, someone put this on HERE!!! Seen her on many occasions from THIS tour to her solo jazz and blues to operatic performance art. She is THE greatest living live artist performing today. Truthfully speaking the broadcast audio here is very poor, I saw the tour and it was a mindf*ck, just beyond description...incredible.

God's Teeth! 90% of these comments are so puerile. If you don't 'like' it, so what? It's doing 'something else' - and you're not on the channel. Rejoice, go home and shut up.
This is an amazing collaboration, a great cocophany of God-scaring noise and such fun - if you know how to listen to things other than radio bilge. It's time JPJ & DG did another collaboration to truly ROCK our world!
Thanks for posting this. I'd love to hear her do Kashmir.
Virtuosa Diamanda Galas
I respect Diamanda Galás. Amazing musician and woman. She does incredible things with her voice, she fights in favour of the fight of AIDS, etc. Also, is it me or here she looks like an older version of Eva Green? (I love both, for the record)
She seemed so much creepier when I was younger....... Why was I so sure she was speaking in tongues back then, hummmm...... baby batz. peace:)
i love u diamanda (and JPJ, too what they heck)...you PLAY your voice, your whole body, as the powerful instrument that it is!!
Outstanding atmosphere that her voice creates...!
Even better than the studio version 😍😍😍
That might illuminate the Sun Ra!!!
is that John Stewart?
yep! he had a lot of "darker" musical guests on his show back then.
Awesome. It's so nice to hear something that isn't manufactured gumdrop pop/rap. Albeit this being a twenty year old video.
A beautiful and talented woman.
Yes, indeed. Difficult to listen to, but I can certainly appreciate her talent. There's certainly no one else like her!
THANK GOD!
stanggirl70 lol
i can't believe i found this on youtube..omg ty so much!
Es Paige de la WWE.
this IS awesome. it just brings some separate worlds together in a bizarly beautiful way. I always liked zepplin and have been a Diamanda fan for years. when i saw she didsoemthing with jpj i was like "WTF?" this rocks!
OK, this is pure heavy metal in disguise. Imagine making this heavier, much heavier with death growling, or maybe even someone like Mike Patton doing vocals! Oh my God, this would be scary!
Apparently she hates patton and thinks he ripped off her style LOL
Wow thank you so much for adding this, I never knew something like this existed. I adore Diamanda she looks so awesome here - you made my day.
lol! ''skotose me'' means ''kill me'' in greek! :D :D :D
um.... "lol" I guess...
jfrsnjhnsn
super lol i guess when you are greek
Amazing! I didn't believe that i'd see other video rather than DYTTM from The Sporting Life era.
De tu envidia nace su Fama. ;)
She's an amazing singer and a brilliant artist.
you can tell how powerful her voice is. you can see her using her hole body to sing.
I didn't know Jon Stewart had a show before the Daily Show. Great song too
This woman is a Goddess!
Olrac Sobi lmao wtf is wrong with your head ? Stay locked up and chained in your basement buddy, everybody is better off in this world without your opinion. This woman belongs in an insane asylum
Irish Wilsdon research her and all she’s done, and her message, the stance she took in support of the gay community- and go listen to her catalog- she fucking rocks.
The real Hekate.
One slight move of her hips and 2 vowels equals to 2 hours of dancing and singing of modern female performers. No exagerations.
Mike Patton brought me here.
This was one of the more ecclectic gigs I've seenover the years, but a standout one atthat, Galas and Jones were apotent force togthere..a shame it was for only one album, great tour, back in 1994.
I didn't know that Ozzie & Yoko Ono had a daughter together. Dang!
delet this
+María Peperina and if i don't..??
U are correct...and I happen to be huge fan of Yoko and Ozzy. Diamanda is the BESTand everybody should be compared to HER!
ziad bassaj That's an insult for Ozzy
That's an insult for Yoko, Ozzie and Diamanda, yo must not compare
