  • In this video I finish up sheathing the walls and roof and then I do my first ever attempt at asphalt shingles! It was actually pretty fun and I'm happy with the results. Siding and the door are next.

From This Old House, the drip edge shouldn't touch the facia, it should hang a quarter inch off the fascia. The nails through the top are definitely wrong, any time you see a nail (shiner) that's a leak point. Unfortunately I don't know the correct way to finish it. Maybe roof ridge shingles? DIY would be just put some roof flashing caulk or Henry's over the nails.

Good o know about the drip edge that makes sense. And yeah the exposed nails just didn’t seem right. Even though a little leak in this thing is no big deal, I did end up getting some sealant to put over the nails. Figured it couldn’t hurt. Thanks!

Weren't us supposed to bend the drip edge around the corner by putting a 90 degree bend and some carefully placed relief cuts using snips? How come you didn't use ur compressed air nail gun on the side / u used a manual hammer? For the angled end where it drips off drip edge, ok. But on the sides weren't u supposed to use non drip edge, just metal flashing? Will u put rain gutters? Nails ok, i would have used metal button cap nails.

Great questions thanks for watching! I did attempt to do the drip edge corners like you said. My cuts and bends were so atrocious I didn’t even show them because it would make others worse off just my watching. That’s why I link to a real roofer in the description. I tried and it’ll probably function but it’s not good. I ended up nailing off that front piece and everything else with the nailer but sometimes used the hammer and nails for the first two nails. Sounds the people go both ways on the roof edges, drip edge vs nothing/flashing. No plan on a gutter. Thanks again for watching!

lol. hahhaa. I recall on my shed, I used the edge of a 2x4 to help perfectly bend the corners of the drip edge. It was a while ago. I forget exactly how i did it but the corner came out legit. Without that 2x4 edge to assist I would have been toast. @@RLLWoodworks

That’s a great idea! Love finding little tips and hacks like that during a project.
