I can tell you spent A LOT OF TIME editing this video. As always, love the work and appreciate the effort!
Classical music and axe sharpening this was interesting informative and relaxing!
Depends. Are you using it on trees or to make salads?
tree salads.
If I could like this twice I would
Jonis Andrade great point
Mostly murders
Either way I doubt it can be too sharp
Not the sequel we asked for, but the sequel we deserve!
who else wants to see can a machete be too sharp?
SirDarthCount make it a trilogy!
@@johnnycad8055 yes indeed!
Finally an axe video!
I don't mean to be rude, but being self conscious and insecure doesn't mean that you aren't raised by a "strong man", as you put. My father is the toughest guy I know, and hes always been around, but I'm not him. Not everyone is going to be like their father
Thank god. You are 100% right
Lol well maybe you should be more like him... not trying to be rude. Try not to become a hunchback broski 👍.
Agreed. insecurity can make a strong man strive to be stronger. My father never complimented me at any endeavor unless it was the quality one would expect of a man stating :"You should always strive for perfection and nothing less. You'll never be perfect and never achieve it truly, but even in failing you'll be above all others who aimed lower."
Knowing you're never your best makes a man strong.
Caring more about your wife & your children than yourself is what makes a man strong. Scott Sherman
The first 6 words of your comment are indicative of exactly the type of demeanor and mindset he was referring to. There was nothing rude about your comment yet you apologize in advance, hoping to avoid offending someone with your opinion that you have a right to hold
Not to be rude, but I like the quiet segment
Deadlifting greatly improved my posture. I was a chronic sloucher and had a terrible body but since I started weightlifting my posture has greatly improved and standing, sitting, breathing, walking, etc. have all improved and are easier, less taxing. It only took me 2.75 decades to finally "get" what what my parents were telling me while growing up.
And as always don’t try this at home I’m what you call a professional and this has been “can a ax be too sharp video” Paul Harrell
Me 2!!!!!!!!!
this axe certainly LOOKS sharp, but lets see how it holds up to the meat target.
MB style. Lol
YES. When he blade edge is so thin that it will lay over rather than penetrate, it is too sharp.
My favorite type of videos you make, calm, detailed, and lengthy. then finishing off with a nice explanation! Nice work Cody.
Confident yet humble is a fine line to learn how to balance. Important to remember you have as much right to be in the room as anyone.
hope you are aware that you put a V edge on a tool that`s intentionally convex ground
You have 25 degrees PER SIDE! This means 50 degrees included angle. Too blunt. You want 25 degrees INCLUDED ANGLE. This means 12.5 degrees per side. Just like a knife.
Please show us how to do it corretly in a video Joe,
I guess we’ll be waiting a very long time,
+Wranglerstar
Boy, you really can't take criticism, can you? Kinda weird for a "manly man" to react like a little kid. If he's wrong, just tell him how and why, if he's correct just admit it and maybe state why you decided to go for a larger included angle.
Looks like it cuts just fine to me.
Wranglerstar I thought joe’s advice was extremely helpful. Why did you take it so wrong? I also recognized the edge a little bit thick for what an axe usually is. If you chose to make it thick, tell us why, if you made a mistake, admit it. Don’t take it out on the guy who made a very helpful criticism. You just lost a little bit more respect in my eyes.( and I’m entitled to my opinion so don’t try to make me look like a bad guy)
Been watching some ASMR recently aha, great video as always
Love the video! I really like the overhead slider camera angle! Nothing like a sharp tool.
I recently bought a Hultafors axe/hatchet hand made by Hults Bruk, Sweden, 17 1/2" in full 1 3/4lbs, hickory handle, i followed your instructions by scraping the handle and rubbing it with boiled linseed oil, it came shaving sharp, it has no secondary grind it is basically a full flat grind, as you can probably tell I love it, it is perfect for my winter job, selling Christmas tree's, I use the axe to taper the bottom of the tree to the customers needs, I got it new for just under £32 ($40) did I get a good buy?
The dear wood shop I missed so much. Reminds me of drinking coffee on a winter Sunday morning catching up on Mr. W. Thanks Cody, I appreciate the nostalgia.
I’m so excited for fall/winter wood shop videos!!! Btw, love the quiet nature of this video. Almost like ASMR haha xD
Beautiful artistic video 1st 2/3rds. Thanks Cody. And keep up the wonderful MMs!
That was so therapeutic God bless you and family
Cody you are a forester, not a surgeon! Well done, we can all strive to be that good at sharpening tools. Happy Labor Day to you and your family!
Really love these types of videos. I find them soothing for some reason.
Rule #1: Stand up straight with your shoulders back.

I love that blade sharpener tool.
It's awesome.
Think I might have a go at making something similar out of tool glides and guides.
Those old manual operated miter saws with 4 chrome posts minus the blade look like a candidate for making this contraption.
I think it'll work.
Fall? 90 degrees today in eastern NC! Another awesome video, they keep getting better. You have so inspired me in the axe sharpening thing that I have acquired about 20 antique axe heads since finding your videos a year ago. I have a blast, shining and sharpening. I would love to have a link to the sharpener you use.
I really like the change in format for this video. It's refreshing and interesting. Well done!
1. Split fly made my day!
2. Spot on with the posture issue.
Hope your kite sailing adventure was a real hoot.
It's been a long time since we've seen a silent video. I love it. Keep up everything@ make whatever you want, I'll always love it!
Didn’t expect the later part of Manly Manners at this channel. But I’m glad you had mentioned these here. It’s a reminder to me to consciously continue to do something about my habit of stooping when walking. Had been doing this for decades so it’s something very difficult to break. But I’m determined to improve on this. Simply because there’s a better way to walk, sit etc. Thank you for the education.

Hi Mr. W
I hope you dont mind me calling you Mr. W, just wanted to tell you that i found your channel about a month ago and i really enjoy and admire what you do and i feel that your content and lifestyle is incredibly helpful to everyone but even more helpful to younger men, in a way you are a teacher of life and i really appreciate that.
God bless you and your family
Glad to see you back in the workshop!
Your videography skills are amazing! It's been really cool to watch you progress and find your style.
cody? are you going to finish the single log bridge? i have been really interested to see how it turns out
So can it be too sharp or is my posture bad? I'm a little lost in the concept of this video
Just go with the flow, man, go with the flow.
I’ve been watching your videos for almost the entire duration of my deployment and I love them, thank you wranglerstar
Loved it Cody. You’re really doing a great job on changing up the way you film a video. Making it more creative.
Good stuff.
I love the videos at the workshop, Thx walglerstar regards from Spain
I would say that axe is scary sharp👍
Ive gone the other way more recently. I still sharpen my carving axes to shaving sharp, but I find the edge is just too fragile for forest work. I like to gloss up the bevel, though. the fewer scratches there are, the harder it is for rust to set in.
A fireman’s axe can be too sharp. Those are bludgeoning tools and not chopping tools. My lesson after an afternoon of
sharpening the department’s axes was to have the Captain hand me a stone to round them over.
if they need a bludgeoning tool use a battering ram or else how would they chop a door to pieces
Well here is the thing an axe typically takes a lot of abuse. You can spend a ton of time sharpening it but it sure won't stay sharp for long.

Another great video! The footage along with the music was perfect.
Great video. Love to see the workshop videos again.
What one won't do to pass time. Especially when it is cold. Enjoyed it. The music fit. I find I cut my best dovetails when I have some opera music going.
Silly but very cool. Love this. Also love the absence of any dialogue. With your attention to detail this is a very well done video. Don't get me wrong, I like to hear your wisdom and opinions.
This is the classic Wranglerstar art that i love. More like this please.
Too cold to work outside Cody? LOL just kidding!
Great sharpening video and your chat at the end about how a man carries himself is spot on.
Cheers from Tokyo!
Good to see you back in the shop
Nice opening shots with the motorized slider. Cool addition to your production arsenal.
Such a nicely done video, Mr. W. I truly enjoyed the peaceful editing used for your production. Thank you.
Best video of yours I’ve ever watched so far, Zero talking thank you.
No & Yes. Depends on the steel quality.
Too thin on soft regular axes and they dull. Not worth your time.
Fiskars Axes are harder quality steel- can take a sharp edge, that lasts. Very well priced @ Walmart’s.
Me being a young man with a semi absent father I noticed when he was talking about these things I do some of em but I will definitely use the advice given to help me in the future great video
bringing back the original videos....love it!
Actually my Nan taught me to straighten my posture when i was younger...only once and I always remember to this day when i feel myself slouching over. I agree with the hand shake too and everything else too! Strong handshake is a confident man! You can tell a lot from a man when you first shake his hand.
Thank You for your videos. This is needed to day in this world.
I'm loving the rsd wranglerstar tips
Amazing videography, awesome music, compelling video.
Cody you are just amazing! I love how the scandie turned out! God bless
A very very welcome return to form. Videos like this is why I subscribed
I was speaking to a guy who does restoration and preservation of ancient weapons and armor some time ago. He said when putting things up for storage you should wax them rather than oil them. Apparently when dust settles on oil it can wick water to the metal and you get pits. Because of the viscosity of wax that does not happen. I know used bicycle chain wax on all of my cutting instruments from knives to access with much better corrosion resistance than oil used to give me. Just an interesting tidbit I learned.
wow, Cody. That is some amazing accuracy and care to achieve that kind of hand sharpening!
Very reminiscent of your ols axe videos. I love it.
old*
Love the strings intro. Trying to teach myself how to re hair a violin bow right now but the frog fell apart. lol
Havent you already done a video the same as this one
Brilliant sharpening video, I'd like one of those sharpeners. I'd be interested in knowing what cameras you uses. Thanks for the video

@@wranglerstar Thanks
Another good one! Nice ending with the Man Manners!
Dude I love you vids so much they inspired me to get an axe collection
Putting such a fine edge on a tool like an ax is a waste of time. When the ax is used for its intended purpose, the amount of force (F=mA) will quickly distort that steel and that edge will be gone. The angle of the edge and how far back that angle can be carried back into the blade are important considerations. Too low of an angle and the edge will distort and become "dull" quickly. Too high (fat) and the edge will actually do less cutting of the wood fibers and the mass will force the fiber apart.
Like most thing in life, it is a compromise.
This comment was a waste of time,
Touché !
Your above comment of Jack's above comment has caused me to want to waste my time & comment. This strikes me as thin-skinned & punching down, & I'm sure a few more clichés as well. Aside from his installing F-mA, which was designed only to make him look smart & did not work, everything else he said was right on & he was literally answering YOUR question! Nowhere in his comment was he anything but polite, & you answer back with "This comment was a waste of time," & yes, I didn't clean up your poor comment, I left the "," there at the end too. You're allowed to get frustrated with your commenters - without whom you'd have to work a real job btw, but when it's someone who in no way deserves it, no, that's not OK. Scott Sherman
@@wranglerstar I enjoyed Jack's comment. Yours however was unreasonably, almost absurdly rude.
@@elliottg5987 Yeah the more i read wrangler's comments the less respect I have. Honestly I can't tell if it's him or his wife doing the internet battling. Probably both
That paper cutting is soo satifying ! nice music vibe to this video ! :))
Finally!!! Videos like this is why I subscribed years ago! Thank you so much, I feel like a man watching RUclips again!
Does anyone see my comment? Not that it really matters to me but I thought at least somebody would like or comment on it. Makes me wonder if its showing up?
I really like that sharpening rig. I dont have a problem with keeping a good angle on a hatchet or axe. But I'm not the best when it comes to sharpening a pocket knife.
Love this vid! Really liking the manly manners talks 👍🏼
Loved this vid!!!...lol....i was actually excited, when u kept upping the grit of the stones,....i was WHATTTT how high is he gonna go?...lol....great vid
You are so legendary, God bless my friend, the whole family
Gonna take the manly manners to heart!
Wranglerstar, you help me learn the way a man is supposed to be, not the way popular culture has laid it out, thank you
I'm experiencing dejavu on the manly manners I think
There is just something satisfying getting a blade as sharp as possible.
I miss the quiet videos. LOVE IT !
Another stellar video from the Man in Plaid!
Probably the best channel on RUclips
Hello! I’m just very curious on the sharpener used to make the axe scary sharp!
I would love to see you make a designated axe holder for sharpening it. Preferably one that would be able to be used by everyone, not needing the work bench too.
I NEED that sharpener...... I didn’t think it possible but that sharpener really gives me “The Fizz”
I contacted the site but wasn’t sure what set you had, the one I want was $820!
Hope that your holiday is fun! I’m on call, so not going too far.
He said “ like a wounded animal “ lol
That was quite satisfying to watch!
Sharpening an ax to Yo Yo Ma sure raises the bar!
I really enjoy the quiet videos
Beautiful job you’re the man.
great cinematics, really impressed
Amazing work.
I completely agree with you, walk tall and be proud.... not only is it good for you physically with good posture but good for you mentally,
I can still hear my welsh P.e. Instructor shouting “shoulders back, chest out!”
that opening music was perfect for that kind of activity. Good way to practice mindfulness, great choice. I assume the down side of too sharp is too delicate. For something that works hard, like an axe, is an edge that sharp going to dull quickly?
Hope you have a nice holiday, have fun kiting!
more and more seeing the sharpening system really encourages one to get one!!!
Love the editing
Excellent MM advice. I was unfortunate that I never had a father growing up, and really still don't. I wouldn't say that I am unconfident but I do have bad posture to an extent. I would say most of it comes from just bad posture but it is important to be upright and straight and I try to make a conscious effort to do that. It's also something that I should instill in my 2 sons but they both have decent posture already. It is important to be confident but the problem we have now is people and confusing confidence in cockiness.
These are my favourite videos!
Such a peaceful activity sharpening can be - thanks for the very relaxing video Cody! I'm curious how quickly the finer point of such a sharp blade will fold over and develop a burr with the next use. I've noticed you typically like to push the blade angles on the sharper side of the typical 30 degrees with your axe restorations (I prefer that as well), but I'm curious if your breadth of experience has left you with a favorite angle that gives you the optimum ratio of utility vs needing to be re-sharpened all the time?
Your editing (story telling) along with photography is really getting extraordinary. You could make an entire video of nothing but a chainsaw on a stump look good...oh wait..you've done that! Lol Great work!
