I used to use an Epson ET-2550 ruclips.net/user/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , an early model of the ink tank style. It worked well, but had one nuisance that drove me up the wall; if you didn't put it in high quality print mode you'd get a streak across the page. I'm happy to say I have yet to see this with this printer. The print quality has been fantastic so far, the set up was super easy. All in all I'm very happy with this printer.
Hi some (maybe useful) notes: - The prater was probably in 'Hex dump mode' this mode prints ZPL (Zebra printing language) of whatever command it receives. Hard reset usually shuts dev mode off .that's why it was probably deemed broken. - You are using zebra setup utilities to set the printer up. some other companies also produce state of the art drivers for this model. check NiceLabel their drivers are fresh and give lots of options to tinker with. (Hint: NiceLabel supports some printers that zebra deems too old ;) - Your printing is slow because you are using regular programs like word or pdf to print. the computer has to convert the whole label to a picture and than send it to printer. Shipping and other labels can be designed with special label design programs that convert labels to ZPL ( Zebra's printing language) That speeds prints up drastically. the printer can even store some variables like dates to speed the printing even more! - If you are looking to create lots of labels, I suggest using NiceLabel or other programs to design templates. you can use excel or other data to automatically populate and print labels! This drastically speeds up your workflow. Of course these programs are expensive but if you can save time it just might be worth the investment!
Hi, hope you can help, I was gifted an LP 2844-Z also with the network connection. I can get it to calibrate and form feed, but nothing prints, not even faintly. One thing to consider, if the printer is getting a dynamic IP address (DHCP enabled), it may change addresses if the router is rebooted or the printer relocates. If you set it to a static IP address in the appropriate range, then you should not have an issue later.
I ran to reset the router and printer after seeing this haha. Always trying to learn, after reboot address is still the same, does that mean its static by default? I didnt see any settings for static vs dynamic but I also wasnt reading everything during the setup. 🤣
@@thecollegepicker I went back and looked again at your network status page. I can't see the whole thing so I don't know if there's a DHCP option or not. That may well be a static address that just happened to coincide with your network layout. If it is static, and your network happened to be different (10.1.1.1 - 10.1.1.254) it would not have worked so easily without resetting the printer to match the existing network. I googled it and said try setting it to 13. Once I did that, the labels stopped printing all the way. It would go maybe half an inch then stop and cut off. Thanks for your videos Eric. I have an annoying problem that just started today out of nowhere. First, my LP 2844 was not printing at all, so I recalibrated, and got a 5 sheet Dump print, hit the green button, and it spit out a blank label. So I went to print an actual label, and it makes the sound like it's going to spit out a label, but then just freezes up, the print job goes away and it acts like it has actually printed, and there is nothing going on anymore. I've repeated the process a few times, and the same thing just keeps happening. I am seeing that the printhead may be need to get replaced as the thermal print is coming out low, but I don't want to replace that if the machine is actually just broken. Any ideas?
So I need some help. I got a zibra lp2844 printer from eBay, it works but I can't get it to print a full 4x6 label from my shopify. What am I doing wrong?
If you have followed Erics installationguide on youtube, and you are able to print a testlabel ( support.pirateship.com/en/articles/1068012-can-i-print-a-test-label - The one at the bottom ), then you need to change the settings on Shopify, do some googleing, there is threads about it on Shopify's forum. But to change the labelsize, go to your computer, click the gear icon at the bottom, then press "shipping", scroll down until you see "shipping labels", change that to "zebra label printer" or "other label printer", make sure it says that it is a 4x6 label and hit save. You can do a testprint within shopify if you want to see how it turns out. Take care :)
Hey I really hope you can help me. You make this stuff look easy. I purchased a LP2844. The sign on the front of the LP2844 has a UPS sticker where the zebra square should be (left hand side). When I try to calibrate it I keep getting an amber light. When I looked it up I noticed on Zebras website that they note a disclaimer that if your LP2844 was owned by a shipping company (i.e. UPS, FEDEX) do not load the zebra drivers but it was already too late and had been done. The thing just makes a loud noise when I calibrate it feeds me blank labels and the amber light comes on.... I have no clue if I can even use it. Its never been able to calibrate out the box. What should I do?? Because it was once owned by UPS does this mean I cannot use it? HELP!!!????Please!!!! Seriously frustrated..... Cant print anything not even a calibration sheet :-( Discouraged buyer
Hi, I do have a question that I hope you could answer. I just started selling on Shopify but I'm running into one issue. I have the Besteasy thermal printer but when I print my labels for some reason they come out smaller (I have 4×6 label). I have already changed the computer settings both in Edge and IE. Please help me, it also only prints landscape.
I don't have shopify but they do have a customer support team that could probably help. It's somewhere when you are printing the order or getting ready to print the order from what I've been told.
Hi college picker, I’m watching your new video now, I haven’t tried my Zebra zp450 yet cause I’m not completely ready to start selling my inventory, but I was wondering if you could could make a video showing us your computer screen step by step how to choose the method of shipment when you sell an item on Poshmark. Thank you!!
Hey Eric! I was wondering if you could help me with my MFLABEL DT108B that doesn't appear to work. It turns on, but does not seem to calibrate. Instead, the red button stays on (even after holding the green button while the printer is off and then on). Is this something you could help with? Thanks so much!!!
@@thecollegepicker Thanks for replying!!!! I did watch and saw the importance of calibrating and how to do that... I held the green button down and then turned the power switch on. The blue and red lights came on and the red light started to blink, so I let go of the green button (before the red light turned solid). Then the red light turned solid and nothing happened. There is no movement within the printer. Do you happen to know what might be causing this and how to fix it? Thank you so much!
Oh my goodness... I feel ridiculous. I worked on this for over an hour last night and just realized I did not have the lid completely closed. 🤦🏻♀️ And it works when you have it closed correctly, haha. Thank you for responding!!!!
I have a printer like this that's not working. When I press the feed button it feeds a bit then makes a buzzing noise and red light. When I try to calibrate it prints a very very light list then buzzes and red light again. I'm fighting with the seller about a return currently and don't want to lose money on it.

Alan Liu Open zebra setup utilities on your windows pc, select the printer, click on "printer settings" (first button top left corner, go through the pages until you come to one with may checked boxes. Uncheck "feed", save and restart the printer.
I sent back the new Dymo I had bought and got a Zebra lp2844 after watching your reviews. The zebra prints test and setup prints fine but the labels it prints are faint and blurry (illegible). Any thoughts?
If you are on Windows you can adjust the dithering and the darkness in the settings to crisp it up, if you are on Mac everything should scan fine with how it prints but you can also adjust the darkness.
Did you say it cannot be calibrated from a mac computer? I have a MacBook and was debating between this and the Rollo. Thinking Rollo might be better for my situation? (I'm not very techy)
I'm open to either. My hubby leans towards the Zebra but it's gotta work with my MacBook. Is it hard to get it to work with Mac? We are mainly doing eBay. Thank you for your help!
Ms. Vicki the only tricky part would be the calibration, you can calibrate the media on the printer (without computer), but if that doesn't work in some way and you need to do it through the driver you can burrow a windows computer and calibrate on.
Eric, I also need to know what kind of computer brand would you recommend for reselling business and to use with the Zebra 450 printer. I don’t know anything about computers and want to invest my money in something that will last me as many years as possible. Is an Apple pc 2015 good enough?? Or a Mac book
There seems to be lots of these in Ebay that are listed as "not working parts only". You are showing that these may still be functioning, if tinkered with. However, it is very hard to find one that is also network ready with ethernet. Question, what is different about the LP-2844 Z model?
"Let me go grab a charger". hahahaha. I think I know why the former owner had trouble printing with it. I can just picture him bangin on it, saying "why won't this Ga DXXX thing print?"
I bought one. Quality isn't the best. Using usps label, 14 darkness, smooth dithering. A lot of the thin parts are hard to see. Tried no dithering but that made some lines and parts of letters disappear
@@thecollegepicker Hi Eric I got one of these in the eWaste bin at work. seems like its stuck in dump mode. After it prints out the label the light turns solid orange. Are you on Mac or PC? I released a video today for the PC settings. Mac usually is fuzzy but will scan fine. We are working on a fix before the Mac driver.
@@thecollegepicker its windows 10. i actually seen one of your other video about setting the darkness and speed to a certain way. but now labels after labels come out non stop? blank too is there a way to fix that
There is actually way to adjust the settings, I misspoke. It doesn’t allow the same communication thats available on PC because zebra builds their support with windows in mind for the big companies which most use windows. =( . Calibration usual works with the button/switch combo but Im not sure why I didn't work on this machine.
@@ericbressi On mac In the print dialogue, there is a dropdown that says preview, you click that and pick "printer features" Then Feature sets change from general to printer settings, that will give you darkness and speed settings. =)

It would be funny if the seller accidentally shipped the wrong printer and sent you a working one while they shipped the "broken" one to someone else. Still a nice score. I was lucky enough to get my lp2844 from a yard sale. It was advertised as an ebaybseller retiring. I went only to ask for a thermal printer and he went into his house and sold me his zebra for 15. I ended up buying some other things but im guessing he was selling off his dead stock.

So today, I'm like, hmmm, maybe its time to upgrade from the inkjet to a thermal printer. But which one. Then I remember, oh yeah college picker was on his IG story talking about them and comparing them. So i wonder, maybe he has a RUclips video about it.
Cant print anything not even a calibration sheet :-(

Hi, have you changed the setting on shopify?
@@thecollegepicker I just went to the shopify.com settings but I was unable to locate it. Could you point me in the right direction?
I don't have shopify but they do have a customer support team that could probably help. It's somewhere when you are printing the order or getting ready to print the order from what I've been told.
Thank you, I will contact then tomorrow. Great job on the vids BTW, you have soo much knowledge to share.
@Pinoretread and thanks for everything you do!
Thank you!!
Hi yes I need to make that video. Thanks for the vote that it needs to be made ☺️✌️
thecollegepicker Thank you for replying fast!! I’ll be waiting for the video!! 🙂
Do you have any suggestions on where to buy the labels for this? I just bought one of these, thanks to your reviews! 😁
Any direct thermal labels should work, if you need 4x6, get them for free from UPS or FedEx :)
What's the difference between this, the z and the ups one? Are they all usable on a regular windows computer? 🙏🏻 Thanks dude
Yes, they use different drivers.
My printer is just printing crazy words and won't stop. Any advice?
Hey Eric! I was wondering if you could help me with my MFLABEL DT108B that doesn't appear to work. It turns on, but does not seem to calibrate. Instead, the red button stays on (even after holding the green button while the printer is off and then on). Is this something you could help with? Thanks so much!!!
Hi did you watch my tutorials on the dt108b?
Good troubleshooting! I never would have guessed that one 😂
@@thecollegepicker Haha well turns out troubleshooting in a well-lit room seems to help! 😂 Thanks again!
I have a LP2543PSAT is there anyway you can help me set it up pls ty
Should be similar to other Zebra printers, this driver may work. www.seagullscientific.com/downloads/printer-drivers/eltron-ups-2543/
I have a printer like this that's not working. When I press the feed button it feeds a bit then makes a buzzing noise and red light. When I try to calibrate it prints a very very light list then buzzes and red light again. I'm fighting with the seller about a return currently and don't want to lose money on it.
sounds like a too weak power supply or a dead motor. Hope you got it fixed.
Hello! I recently watched your video about the Zebra LP 2844. I went to your website and followed all the instructions you gave. Everything worked as you stated but my printer will not print the label. I crossed reference your video step by step and still nothing. Am I doing something wrong? I downloaded the label but again no label will print. If you could please help me I would so appreciate it, truly!
Hi could you elaborate on what system you are installing on? Thanks
@@thecollegepicker I am using a chrome book Asus C300...I did do alil more research after I posted my comment. I wasn't quite ready to give up. I went on Pirateship.com and followed your same method with their label and it worked. I was so proud of myself since I am not savvy YET lol...getting there tho. Thank you for replying you have been a huge help on assisting me with my lil small shop that is opening soon!! Thank you again for all your help!!😊
@@jiseniabravo6311 Awesome glad you figured it out =)

@@realnickgfoo Can you get into settings and turn the dithering off?
How do you see how many miles/km a printer has done?
It should say that on the config label, think it tells you how many inches/centimeters the printhead have printed.
Hey, I just ordered one from eBay and it turns out it’s not printing. Please how do I fit it? Thank you 🙏
I would reach out to the seller and see if they offer some support before anything.
thecollegepicker I did but they said they can’t please and I can’t return it either
They have to take it back if they sold it as working and it's broken. They will otherwise be in trouble with eBay.
my LP2844 spit out 2 blanks when I first turn it on from the mains, is this normal? thanks
Yeah it's calibrating, there is a way to turn it off with sending a code to the printer from a Windows computer but I need to make that video.
@@thecollegepicker Yes, please :) it's so annoying.
@@thecollegepicker the dithering helped. Thank you.
Did you say it cannot be calibrated from a mac computer?
I have a MacBook and was debating between this and the Rollo. Thinking Rollo might be better for my situation?
(I'm not very techy)
Probably a Rollo for ease and customer support
The difference between the two models are languages the 2844 uses EPL in the 2844z uses zpl
Thank you!
"Let me go grab a charger". hahahaha. I think I know why the former owner had trouble printing with it. I can just picture him bangin on it, saying "why won't this Ga DXXX thing print?"
Ok so SIMPLY put i need thermal printer ASAP for strictly shipping labels for my home business helpppp and preferably for my mini mac or my phone
Eric, you give so much back to the reselling community brother! Hope to one day meet you in person! @sheltonsidehustle
I really need it.... I still use my desktop printer to create labels lol
@docta_unknown
hi what kind of laptop do you have? i want to buy same kind thank
Some Dell Latitude.
please fix my label printer ;-; keeps spitting out esoteric numbers and won't print anything
Wish i can find a deal like that.
just picked one up at goodwill for 7.99 are these still any good?
Tanks workhorse Toyota Corolla 🙌🏻
@@thecollegepicker awesome
I bought one. Quality isn't the best. Using usps label, 14 darkness, smooth dithering. A lot of the thin parts are hard to see. Tried no dithering but that made some lines and parts of letters disappear
They are 203 dpi which is minimum resolution needed for shipping. If it scans then It's good to go! Yours scan right?
@@thecollegepicker Hi Eric I got one of these in the eWaste bin at work. seems like its stuck in dump mode. After it prints out the label the light turns solid orange. When I did plug it in the pc when the light was green i got an undetected usb device in windows 10. is there any hope in getting this to work or should I just toss it in the trash?
@@thecollegepicker Hi I asked a question about 3 months ago and never heard back :( help me? if you're in the valley i don't mind shipping this printer if you can fix it. I really want ethernet to work so bad on this wanna be 2844 printer
@@rosafarkz9790 Hi, Im not familiar with that specific issue yet but you could sell it on ebay for parts rather than throwing it in the trash. =)
@@thecollegepicker I might be putting up 2 since the other ethernet one I got to access the page lets just say none of the methods described here worked to get the ip address but my networking skills got the ip address of 224.22.0.X I was successful in changing the ip address i just can't get the thing to even print from the built-in webserver. the 2nd unit with light issues originally thought it was the power button, I fixed it with hot glue but the device is just ready to be parted off for a loss on eBay.
bro, my lp 2844 prints super light, dpi 203, dark 30, speed 2, any ideas? please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@eeeveee9176 I think you are in dump mode and will have to get it out of dump mode.
@@thecollegepicker how do i do that?
Why can’t we do these basic calibration and print settings on a Mac. It’s so frustrating
There is actually way to adjust the settings, I misspoke. It doesn’t allow the same communication thats available on PC because zebra builds their support with windows in mind for the big companies which most use windows. =( . Calibration usual works with the button/switch combo but Im not sure why I didn't work on this machine.
thecollegepicker no I meant. We don’t have the darkness or quality settings on the Mac like you do on the windows that I can find
@@ericbressi On mac In the print dialogue, there is a dropdown that says preview, you click that and pick "printer features" Then Feature sets change from general to printer settings, that will give you darkness and speed settings. =)
thecollegepicker does that save it for next time or is there a way to make it default. Thanks again
thecollegepicker sent you a DM on IG
Bryan Young and the ig handle is b33young. I’m a single dad that’s trying to leave a legacy for my son to look back on and this would make it easier for me. Plus I’m exhausted of having to use a ink jet printer for my labels, lol.
Eric, I just watched your video you brought a Zebra back in July 2019, did it break already ?
No I didn't break, I just buy them to show people different printers. I have 10 or so. 🤣👍
nice! well done!
@dumpstermarcus I need to go from a dinosaur to this lol
sucks that you don't show what you did on the computer to fix it.
Lolll. That's a deal for $15 🙌
@jasonortizatx Thanks for the opportunity! 🙏🏼
mine dosent even want to turn on, even if i press the button
Maybe burnt out.
That’s amazing @beachbumthrifter 🌴
@macgirlie would ❤️ cop at cost!!
@jaymzcervantez , Would live to be able to use this instead of wasting money on ink and paper. Been following you for a bit now and I have seen you picking these up for a great price. I have since been stalking ebay and other apps for one.
So today, I'm like, hmmm, maybe its time to upgrade from the inkjet to a thermal printer. But which one. Then I remember, oh yeah college picker was on his IG story talking about them and comparing them. So i wonder, maybe he has a RUclips video about it. I go to RUclips and search and see the video was uploaded just 4 hours prior to my thought. It was meant to be! Lol! Thanks for another gem! Fingers crossed i win. :-)
