this perfectly solved a niche problem i was having. thank you so much. also, info for anyone less comfortable with linux/cli: i used a live install of manjaro to run Etcher on my mini pc and it worked out of the box without any command line tomfoolery.
Super helpful, thank you for the video! The computer I'm intending to install Batocera on only has a low-speed tethered internet connection, so your method shown here is a real life saver.
Great video, just what I was looking for. One thing to note, after disabling Secure Boot you could have exited the BIOS and then on reboot pressed F12 to get to the boot menu, then booted from the USB drive, there is no need to go back into Windows. Take care!
hi, nice video, but this is an overcomplicated solution.... you can just install batocera from an already done installation (on a usb stick for example) by selecting the propriate menu in batocera itself.... so that you can "copy" the os from the usb stick to the hdd directly. It's so simple... try and then tell me if it's not way easier ;) cheers from Italy
Thanks for watching! You’re right-the built-in method is definitely simpler, but this video focuses on the manual method for those who want to learn more about Linux. For example, you could use this same method to install other operating systems like Home Assistant OS. It’s more about understanding and having full control over the process, which some find fun and rewarding. Hope that clears things up-cheers from USA :)
I love the video, im going to put badacero on a hp elite desk thats coming via Walmart (restored) is this process doable with just the mini pc hooked to the Internet or do i have to go where theres another pc to preform the beginning? Thanks in advance
hey sorry for the late reply, but if the pc comes with windows on it. you will just have to load all of the files you need onto the flash drives before you start installing batocera. As long as you get those first, you'll be good to go!
Yes, the amount of space you can partition will be limited by the size of your drive. So, if you have a larger drive, lets say 1tb, you could partition 1tb.
17:43 - I have a Dell Wyse 5070 and I get trapped in the Boot Loop? My BIOS (1.26.0) does not show the Legacy Option, nor any Advance Boot Options. Have you any ideas that I can try?
Hmm can you get into the boot manager by pressing f12? That's what I was initially trying to do but it wasn't working. The settings could be called something slightly different. You could Google "how to enable legacy boot on (whatever model computer)"
@@kaptainplanet7203 Oh no! Someone in the comments said that they used a live version of manjaro instead of Ubuntu and was able to launch balena etcher with no issues. If you have a short Ethernet cable that would definitely be the easiest way, I guess your router could be blocking the Linux computer but that would be odd. Let me think for a second and see if I can come up with a solution.
I found an Ethernet cable and did step by step now it’s saying the top right corner start PXE over IPv4 I’m trying to find boot sequence but I can’t find it anywhere my bios or whatever you call it looks a little different then yours does, it says in the secure boot that “selected boot image did not authenticate
@@kaptainplanet7203 Can I ask what type of computer? Have you tried pressing f11 or f12 while it's booting to get into a boot manager? Its probably in there somewhere. Let me know what kind of computer and I'll try to help!
i had the same problem and then i tried firefox in ubuntu and realised it was offline. I plugged the ethernet cable in, tried both commands again and everything worked.
Thank you! Yes make sure you have an internet connection - that command downloads some missing things (over the internet) needed for some applications to work
doesnt work for me. I used the latest ubuntu and the latest etcher image (and tried your version, too) but with no luck...any ideas? etcher just wont start
Hey, little late.. but I was just installing this the other day on a computer for friend and I see that balenaEtcher added a new download for linux - in the video I say to use the appimage, but now you can use the x64 zip that is available for Linux - that should work without issue.
Running into error E; unable to locate package libfuse2. I have the same computer. I tried sudo apt update before running the libfuse2 code and no dice.
Please help! When I try and copy and paste the two files into the downloads folder I get an error saying "error while copying to downloads" "There is not enough space on the destination. Try to remove files to make space. 99.7MB more space is required to copy to the destination"
Make sure that you have an internet connection and that you are using the same version of ubuntu that is being used in the video. Let me know if that helps!
Hi! Great Tuto, thanks. I'm facing issues: For any reasons the live version of Ubuntu kept refreshing while trying in vain to copy and paste files. It made a new boot disk with a previous version 20.04.6, and once in the terminal, and try to use the command "sudo...universe" I gat the anwer 'Bus error(core dumped). How could I go through this obstable? Thanks again ;-)
Finally: I skipped most of the operation: I did not copy Batocera image nor Balena Etcher but kept them on my flash drive. From there, I created the boot drive on my main drive (no need to go through command, or anything) Thank you sooooo much for the video
good work , new we need the fast way to copy iso file from anther PC to retro console via lan or warless , iso file and bios files on correct way plz , I'm flower form Palestine Gaza ♥
You could definitely do this by creating a custom batocera installation image. And using this exact same process just write your custom image to the drive rather than the one from the website.
I was all excited until you said internet required. I can't connect. I have a steam deck. No wired internet. Wish you would have said so in the beginning, took almost four hours to download both the batocera image and ubuntu
you can get around it with a little extra work. You can actually write the files to the drive using the command only. Using the program just makes everything visual and easy if you are a beginner. The connection can also be over WiFi - It does not NEED to be wired. So maybe you have that option on the steam deck.
Bruh just etch it to a flash drive then put it in your steam deck then boot off usb then batocera will give you an option to wipe your hard drive and install batocera from flash drive

Excellent video. I picked up a 3050 mini so I could make one of these that would hide behind the TV for my Retro Gaming needs. Keep up the good work.
Glad I could help! 😎
This was exactly what I needed, thank you so much!
No problem, Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this. I'd tried all sorts of ways to get this to work, without success. Until now, that is. I can't thank you enough.
Haha that is so awesome to hear! I'm glad I could help!
Fantastic video, much appreciated tutorial.
awesome video.. i was wondering how to do this.. This explains alot.. Thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
I had to use the xhost command to get etcher to work but I made it through!
Great video, will try this
Thanks! Have fun!
It worked !!! TY!
Yesterday, i Install easy peasy batocera over the batocera Interface. All what you need, ist a Internet Connection
I ended up cloning it to a drive and going around the OS method.

I tried moving a different file from my external hard drive over to the another folder only to get the same message (different file size)
You need a bigger flashdrive if you have one. I forgot to mention that in the video.
is there any ways to use Batocera with windows as dual boot OS
you could absolutely make a bootable usb of batocera and store everything on an external harddrive.
Would a USB wifi stick with Ubuntu if can't get an Ethernet cable to the mini pc please?
I might work, you might need drivers to get it to work. It's worth a shot.
Hi is it possible to configure Batocera to boot a specific arcade at power on? Thanks
Yes it is. Once it is all installed you can do it inside the settings from the main menu. I'll have to look on my system so I can tell you exactly.
Can someone please help me with this ? Ive looking around and not found a fix for this ???
Make sure that you have an internet connection and that you are using the same version of ubuntu that is being used in the video. Let me know if that helps!
