    @tomasvlcek4476 3 года назад +1

Slavia fan here. I would like to write down a perspective from Prague if you care read it. First of all I really do hope Ondřej Kúdela didn't say anything racist because racism has no place in football, let alone in our society. But as I write this it’s nothing but a hope - by no means a certainty. And if he is guilty I hope he will get punished. I think he should be punished by the club for unsportsmanlike conduct anyway. The difference I see is that people in Scotland jump into conclusions while here we say - innocent until proven guilty. Let the UEFA investigate it. We dont have better option I am afraid. By the way only Kúdela but many players cover their mouths even when they speak to their teammates; Kúdela is really nice guy and one of the captains - I know this is no really a valid argument because people are people but I am just trying to point out that just because somebody covers his mouth it is not a prove of anything.
I do think there is a problem with racism in the Czech Republic (particularly against Roma people) and most football fans are somehow below average reflection of the society. (Not even talking about those idiots who published the banner) Slavia has always stood for high moral standards on and off the pitch and it is Slavia that is most commonly racial abused in our small footballing world (for being "Jews"). People here are not as sensitive to racism as in UK. The Czech society is very homogeneous and the only people we (if I can use this plural here) treated really terribly in the recent memory were the Germans after WWII and Jews before it. There are very few ethnic minorities living here and they are generally very small (Slovaks, Poles, Ukrainians, Russians, Poles, Vietnamese, Chinese, Romanians, Jews...), there is no history of a slave trade or colonialism (at least in last 800 years) so if you racialy abuse sobebody ppl will just carry on thinking you are an idiot - no point to interact with somebody so low as he exludes himself from a decent society.
The context you might not see is that we think this was the most brutal match we have ever witnessed on the European level. (at least the one Slavia played) It seemed Rangers players lacking the quality (except for Kent) were ready to hurt Slavia players. I know Scotland is famous for their rough play but how could Patterson, for example, finish the game (he didn't even get a yellow) is something I still can't my head around. Slavia players were very disciplined and carried on with it - no retaliation, no nothing. Some people compare the quantity of fauls (about even) but I think here you should see the „quality“. We all know the referee was not good but really think two reds were merciful to Rangers.
The tackle of Roofe is the biggest topic here - you dismiss it that it was unintentional, while I would love the share your certainty, particularly when he kept his leg stetched and didn't make any move to make the collision less dangerous. He broke GKs forehead bone. He could have ended his career right there. Nothing to be proud of. This nightmare tackle is compared with the one on Petr Čech by Stephen Hunt where he was like 5 minutes from dying. Many people think this is for a lawsuit. (you might laugh about this one) The fact Gerrard didn't apologize for the tackle or didn't at least wish Kolář speedy recovery is seen as a massive massive disappointment as the man is widely admired. (I have his shirt) The statement from the club came too late. I see your logic - it was unintentional - end of story - let‘s focus on racism. I think most Slavia fans think the injury is worse as it really really happened and can’t be undone.
It goes with other topic that you don't mention at all - UEFA delegates wanted to sort out the incident after the match and that is when Kamara allegedly (a lot of witnesses inc. Gerrard) punched Kúdela and ran away. A lot of Rangers fans if they even recognize this happened support this behaviour and think that's the way to fight racism. If you want to keep your moral high ground you don't escalate the situation and certainly not with violence. Then again most Slavia fans think punching somebody is worse that insulting him. Same goes for your skipper who says he was on the pitch (after Kamara‘s incident) and was only thinking about hurting somebody and then after the match he said they were waiting in the dug out to confront Slavia team. The first part is bonkers the second part is (implicit) threat with violence. I think this might be the biggest reason Czechs and Brits have very different perspective on what happened (apart from tribal like club loyalties) - Czechs think violence is at the very minimum equal but more likely worse than even racial abuse.
About one hour Slavia players had spend on the pitch before they were allowed into the dressing rooms. Is that how you treat your guests? A punishment for the whole team as we (Rangers FC) have the power? Totally unacceptable. And while Kúdela situation goes mainly on his head the other incidents are fault of Rangers Fooball Club. You can find video on YT where Slavia players are not allowed in - Gerrard walks on the pitch and complains to our manager Trpišovský (whose English is not the best) - he can see all the players there - after the game in cold Glasgow night and he doesn't care. Can you give me example of one such incident? Unheard of in the modern game. And there are not only Slavia fans who are calling for Rangers to be banned from Europe - interesting to see Rangers fans are calling for Slavia to be banned from Europe.
The last thing might be a bit controversial but I think one way or another there is some level anti-Eastern European sentiment in the UK. See the levels of hate crime against Polish who are being attacked for being... Polish. One Czech guy was murdered by some kid gang for being mistaken for a Pole. All I am saying there is this stereotype of inferior, poor, stupid, racist Eastern Europeans who are only good to repair a leaking toilet. I talked to many people from UK that were surprised how rich and beautiful Prague is. (and that beer in a pub is exactly £1 - the most common topic of travel reviews) A few of tokens of this is the Kamara’s solicitor doesen’t even get Kúdela’s name right, usage of words like „unknown player“, „unknown country“ or calling Kúdela „Prague player“ as if you would call your players „Glasgow players“ because there is only one team there, right? This is not moaning I don't care very much - it is just a perspective and you might agree with - fine - but be honest, search your feelings and tell me I am completely wrong. I would be great to know I am wrong on this one.
I am not trying to distract from the Kamara‘s incident (that is why I omitted past culture of Rangers or Gerrard) or defend what Kúdela did simply because you can’t. I am really sorry for it. I just wanted to give you some wider context. In the very least Kúdela said something dirty after this incredibly frustrating match - in the very least. It has stained our great victory, Slavia and Kúdela and even if found not guilty in this respect, they/we will be seen as racist for years to come.

Never been so disgusted, I cannot get this off my shoulders and I cannot imagine what Glen must be feeling like. Every time I step onto social media I see someone questioning his character, someone further racially abusing him, someone deflecting blame onto him and someone attempting to justify or say Rangers cannot complain due to our own ongoing problem of sectarianism. RACISM HAS NO EXCUSE, previous events, be it in the game or beforehand, are not relevant.

CJ you are right in that it's difficult to have an idea of how demoralising this abuse is unless your walking in the shoes of a black man such as myself. But I think you have done a fantastic job in taking time to highlight and address the sickening issues and what really heartens me and is even more apparent is that Rangers is a family united from Directors, manager, fans, players and tea lady.
I've supported Rangers since the Souness reign, and there were parallels of Stevie G's staunch support for Kamara & Souness for Mark Walters at the time. Each made me sad and emotional, but just as Scottish football evolved and eradicated this disgusting behaviour Europe has to follow suite with the onus on Uefa to come down hard on Slavia and the player in question - however, like Connor, I'm not going to hold my breath this will happen!

I was pissed off for the next few hours after the game and every time I see something online the anger just comes back. It’s heartbreaking to see racial abuse happening on the pitch and online in 2021.
As you said CJ, Glen Kamara is one of the most laid back and calm players you’ll ever see, he doesn’t react the way he did unless it’s something vile like the racism he was subjected to. No one should ever have to go through this, it’s absolutely sickening.
Ithink personally it hurts even more for me to see Kamara receive this abuse given that he’s one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. It’s absolutely disgusting he’s going through this and my heart breaks for him.
It was hard to watch that Goldson video yesterday because you can feel the emotions behind every word, he’s extremely pissed off and wants proper action taken as it should.
Just want to give both Kamara and Goldson a hug after that and apologise for having to go through this, Zungu and the others as well. No one deserves to be abused like that. Ever.
It doesn’t even feel like there is a game tomorrow, never mind an old firm match. The match always comes second, serious punishment needs to be handed out by UEFA.

Well said, CJ. I was absolutely disgusted with that whole scene, the instant reaction from Glen Kamara shows clearly that something bad was said. Some of the comments that has followed on social media, and others, Michael Stewart for instance, is calling Kamara’s integrity into question and more or less calling him a liar. There is absolutely no excuse for racism and I personally have never understood it. Let’s hope UEFA do a full examination of this episode but I won’t hold my breath. Perhaps with Leo Ferdinand’s comments to a wider audience more people will pick up on it. I thought it was particularly touching seeing Stevie G hugging Kamara, well done gaffer.

At first, i'm disgused with some czech individuals that are attacking Kamara and Roofe on social media. The racism must be totally eliminated in modern society. But do you really think that, the "racial abuse" based on individual statement is more than the physical attack with full evidence? I'm talking about the assault on Slavia Prague goalkeeper in 61st minute.
In my opinion, these two cases are different, but must not be picked up on purpose - to cover up each other.
Second, did you see the whole match? What do you think about the game itself?
In start of 35th minute Olayinka was verbaly confronted by Morelos, where Kúdela was holding Olayinka back. What kind of verbal attack was there from Morelos?
I appreciate every answer to the questions.
Thank you and All the best,
    Dominik

As a Czech and a fan of Czech football, it is possible that I am a little biased, but I try to look at this whole situation from a distance and this one comes to my mind.
    1. As soon as I saw Kamara and his teammates react, it occurred to me that something racist had been said. If that's true, it's really sad. Actually, whatever he said, I think Slavia should have reacted better to it, to say something in the style that they take it seriously and that they will deal with it themselves. The problem, from my point of view, is that such a thing needs to be proven. It is not possible to convict someone simply on the grounds that something may happened. It may be insensitive to Kamara, but that's the way it has to work to be fair. Anyway, Kudela should have gotten a fine from Slavia just for running there, like a total macho, just to offend his opponent.
    2. It doesn't really fit for Kudela to do something like that, because in the Czech Republic he is not one of the players who would be problematic, let alone have any problems with racism first. It doesn't change the fact that he could have said that, but if he did, it would seem to me more like a momentary failure than a stubborn racism. This also tells me that it is clear from the footage that Kudela is also under the influence of emotions. It certainly wouldn't excuse him, but we also need to look at the context.
    3. Just because there are a handful of idiots in our country does not mean that we are all racists. I am ashamed of the people, the so-called fans, who want to use this situation to expose and normalize their distorted views. But let's be honest ultras are definitely not a representative sample of people and you probably wouldn't want your country / people / clubs to be judged based on the behavior of GB hooligans.
    4. I think you need to look at the whole match as a whole and not pull out one moment and just talk about it. What happened on the field certainly does not excuse possible racism, but it is quite important for the context. I understand that it was probably a fairly common match for you (except for Kolář's injury), but in our county even experts on ftobal are amazed by how hard the match was. Yes, Slavia fouled too, but it seemed more to me, like tactical fouls, Rangers fouls for that ... I think it was over the edge and the fact that even the referee couldn't handle this led to that with every minute the emotions grew in players. Then the situation that preceded the incident where Slavia player was lying on the ground (he clearly didn't get loaded so hard to roll there I admit that) and Rangers kicked the ball into him twice after whistle? ... actually during the match, long before the incident it looked like that the Rangers have no respect for their opponent and that foul on Kolář ... who of the Rangers would leave this foul alone, if it were the other way around, let him throw a stone. Again, to be sure, this does not excuse any racism, but it is quite important for the context in which the emotional tension the players probably played.
    5. What you describe, like some evasive tactics from Slavia ... I understand the optics when it may look like this, but somehow I don't believe that a team at such a level would decide to invent what should happen after the match and claim they have witnesses from UEFA. In an interview, I saw Goldson complaining that Slavia didn't go inside after the match, that the Rangers were waiting for them for a talk, or something... well, Slavia didn't go in because the people at the stadium didn't let them in there, as evidenced there is a recording from a mobile phone, where it is clear that Slavia's players, coaches and Slavia officials are obviously upset and trying to get inside the stadium while someone from the Scottish side is sending them away. UEFA itself says that it is aware that some incidents have taken place after the match and it will solve everything, and if it is true that Kamara hit Kudela after match, then one can probably say "yes, that's exactly what he deserved!", But it is actually also a pretty big problem. It is actually quite strange that on the Scottish side this is either kept silent or swept away like nonsense. In a sense, it's exactly same what Slavia did with the accusations on theire side. I don't think it's right to choose what to talk about and what not to talk about. It is necessary to stand up to everything that should have happened during and after the match.

It is useless symbolism, so that they and the powers that be, can feel good about themselves and tell each other what fine chaps they all are.
It is symbolism and nothing more. Actions speak far louder than words or mere symbolism.
If the footballing authorities want to do something to end racism in the sport then it is time they took action.
If it is proven that Glen did suffer abuse, then Slavia should be punished and Arsenal should be given a bye, with Slavia banned from Europe next season.
