I don't think it's fair to say that Mario Golf was Mario's first sports game. Mario's Tennis came out for the Virtual Boy in 1995, and further back, Mario was a playable character in NES Open Tournament Golf (Mario Open Golf in Japan).
Fantastic video! There's not enough high quality Mario Golf content like this on youtube. It was the perfect nostalgic trip down memory lane for one of my favorite game series. Replaying World Tour right now, after the disappointment that was Super Rush. Sad the tournaments are no longer going on, but it's still a blast in single player!
I know this is an older video, but I just stumbled across it and I really enjoyed it! I appreciate such a deep dive on the games, as few as there are, and as you said in the video, it's nice that they generally increase in quality as they go (Super Rush aside, but that's a Modern Nintendo problem). I never got to play the 3DS one so it was nice to hear it explained and hear you speak highly of it, but Toadstool Tour will always be my GOAT even if 64 has the nostalgia angle!
Technically Mario Golf isn’t the first Mario Sports title. That actually belongs to Mario Tennis on the Virtual Boy. That came out in 1995. Years before Mario Golf. Awesome video! Looking forward to watching more videos!
28:02 I couldn't agree more, early 2000's nintendo will always be my favorite era of nintendo, so many of those games still hold up so goddamn well and are insanely charming, it sucks that most of them are wildly expensive by this point, despite this though my gamecube collection is still going strong 💪
Great video, very thorough. Although you did miss Mobile Golf, the Japan-only sequel to the GBC game, and also Mario Sports Superstars which was co-developed by Camelot and had golf in it. Might've also touched on NES Open Tournament Golf which was the predecessor to the series and We Love Golf which was sort of Camelot's unofficial Mario Golf game for Wii. Sorry, not tryna nitpick I'm just a Mario Golf nut lol. Your video was surprisingly in-depth though which I liked. For me, having played them all (including Super Rush), the N64 one is still my favorite. Sure it may lack some content but in terms of gameplay it's unmatched. It's very difficult to master, has a high skill ceiling, and is very satisfying to improve at. The sequels just felt dumbed down and lacked some of the raw challenge the original had. The original is very much a legit golf simulator.
Yeah I know I missed a few games that are considered part of the Mario Golf series. I was in a bit of a time crunch so I decided to stick with the games with Mario Golf in the title, I’d like to do a video with all of the other games too though!
Something interesting is that the Custom Clubs you get on Advance Tour can also be transferred over to be used in Toadstool Tour as well. Bringing over Clubs like the Super Pow or Risky made it even crazier since they increased the Characters Drive by 20% or 40% respectively and you can use them with ANY of the characters.
Nice! I knew that there was some system like that similar to the power moves in the Advance Tennis game, but I couldn’t find any info on it so I decided to omit it
Mario was the main character for Nes Open Tournament Golf, he's also in Gameboy Golf. I'm not sure in the gameboy one but Mario is referenced by name in the Nes Game.
This was such a cool video! One of my best friends, AStandard, is the greatest Mario Golf 64 player of all time and holds nearly every world record in the game. We recently released a Mario Golf cover EP if anyone is interested. Here’s a link to his channel and our music channel. Easily one of my favorite series of video games! I own every game as well as We Love Golf! for the Wii, which is basically Mario Golf but without Mario characters. Advance Tour has been my favorite even though I love every version in their own ways. Been playing Super Rush online nearly everyday since its launch last year & having a blast with it so far!
I was actually really disappointed with Mario Tennis Open, which is the main thing that hampered any excitement I could've had with Mario Golf: World Tour and the main reason I had to not be interested in it at all.
It never gets worse? Have a look at the recent mario golf rush. Its so lazy it hurts. No tournaments, no manual shots, nothing to unlock, no replays and online zwo animations per character. I think its awful.
Toadstool tour was the last golf game I played (I just didn't have money and freedom to get any others) and it's just so superb. If I still had it, I'd go back and play it again. It was such a fun game, even as single player. ALSO I'm so glad you mentioned that RPG style tennis game because I really was almost certain it was just a fever dream I had one time. I absolutely loved that game. I logged a lot of hours as a kid onto it. I lost it ages and ages ago, though, and never got to finish it.
I know im 2 years late but you could always emulate it. Dolphin emulator is great and not that hard for most pcs to run. Spend $20 on a mayflash adapter and you can plug and play with a gamecube controller too.

Toadstool Tour is one of my all-time favourite games, and yet this video is the first I'm learning of World Tour's existence.

just played some more world tour today bc of this video and it is super fun

NES Open on NES also counts as Mario stars in it with supporting cast.

Great video. Mario golf is grossly underappreciated across the board, and its nice to see some high production quality videos on it

You should do this for mario tennis. I'd watch it.
This video should have way more views... Excellent work

@@salmence100 Yep. In fact characters like Bowser or Petey Pirahna could potentially get Hole-in-ones and Eagles in some of the Par 4 courses.

Awesome video. But NES open on NES was first. But N64 made it popular so in sense what matters is that one. Just history wise NES open is first.
NES open Mario first golf game... surprised that wasn't noted
Luigi, Luigi, oh yeah, oh yeah
God im still upset Tennis/Golf 64 never got the Transfer content added
Especially given they did unlock the E-Reader levels from Mario 3
Super Rush was so disappointing. And ugly, since it lacked polish.
At least the roster is pretty good
@@darkdoctor1915 Missing Birdo, for some reason, tho.
@@ChiefMedicPururu, she has been missing a couple times

Will you make a review/critique of Super Rush?
Still waiting for all of the content updates we're going to get, then I definitely want to!
Will you ever do one of these for Mario Tennis?

It started with the NES version!
You forgot about the one in the original Nintendo
Every time I see the word "fariway" I think of how Space Boyfriend's canonical full name is Halkenna Fairway.
Dude must've really liked golf huh
You forgot Mario sports superstars
Nes Open?

Video was made and posted before Super Rush came out. I can confirm that it disappointed me compared to earlier games.
Cringe
