ผมไม่รู้ทำไมภาษาอังกฤษ ถึงใช้คำว่า Khmer กับกัมพูชา พวกเราชาวเอเชียเรียก กัมพูชาว่า Khmen เป็นคำที่ ไทย ลาว เวียดนาม พม่า เรียกคนกัมพูชามาหลายร้อยปี ซึ่งคำว่า Khmen จะตรงกับบันทึกโบราณที่บันทึกว่าเป็นทาสของผู้สร้างนครวัดขึ้นมา ผมไม่ได้มีอคติเรื่องการเคยเป็นทาสมาก่อน เพราะไทยพึ่งจะเลิกทาสได้ร้อยปีเท่านั่น แต่มันจะทำให้เราเห็นความจริงที่ว่า ทาสจะเป็นเจ้าของวัฒนธรรมของเจ้านายตนเองได้อย่างไร เพราะหลังจากสิ้นตระกูลของ วรมัน แล้ว กัมพูชาไม่เคยสร้างศิลปะเหมือน นครวัด ขึ้นมาอีกเลย คุณคิดว่ามันเพราะอะไร แต่ไทยสร้างได้ และมันเพราะอะไร
